  1. Good points on the climate. I’m in north Houston and these will get blasted with full sun. My FIL called the cherry laurel trash trees. Is he right? I want the eagleston but I need to get my wife on board.
  2. Need opinions on couple plants. Wife wants cherry laurels along my back fence. Landscaper wants to use eagleston holly. Any thoughts on either of these? Thanks
  3. Plumbing is going in today. Putting split face on the retaining wall. Wife is not 100% about it, says it’s “rustic”. I continue to show her pictures that dispute that claim but she is sticking to it. Silver travertine decking with a grey split face should look good. I’m pretty much colorblind so what do I know. Then she realized something in the design that has always been there and now she doesn’t like (too late). This type of build is definitely tough on her. It will look great in the end. The process sucks. Did anyone get push back from builder to use thicker coping? I want the 5cm but the design people made it sound like that could be a problem.
  4. Rolling right along. Gunite yesterday, clean up today. Plumbing next week. I noticed the pad today and think I might have a problem. It’s right next to the exhaust side of my generator. This spot gets pretty hot. Am I right to be concerned?
  5. Rebar in, gunite Wednesday. Are all steps created with rebar or do they build some with the gunite?
  6. What age group is this? Field we play on for 8U has fences that are probably 220. Played on a field at Baseball USA (houston) couple weeks ago with 175. Kids hitting home runs over the fence is awesome.
  7. Picking the finishes always seems to be the point of contention with my wife. I’m colorblind and just cannot see some colors at all. So when she says “do you see all the brown in this, I don’t like it”. I answer “those are things I cannot see”. It’s not what she wants to hear. So instead I answer “yes, I agree”. We do agree on style though. Builder really wants us to use Versailles pattern for travertine. We lean toward 16x24 brick style. Can someone tell me why you couldn’t start at the pool when laying those so you have the solid pattern at the edge and lay to the house vs the other way - starting at the house? Wife made some good decisions today so it was great time spent.
  8. I was hungry when I made that last post. Yard is marked. Hoping it’s in the right spot. Not sure how that works if we want to move it a little.
  9. Supposed to steak out the pool today. Weather just went sideways so it might not happen. Starting a month later than planned (mostly my fault) so ready to get rolling.
  10. Can you post more pics of your pool? I think we are about to do something similar.
  11. Get one local who you can work with. No reason they need to be in the same county as house.
  12. In Houston area. Who is a legit dealer to talk to about buying/install?
  13. Is taking out and putting robot in the pool every few days not a pain in the ass?
  14. They told me I needed X% (don’t remember exact number) and the full face and serial number. Out of 7, they said I had full face on 2. Some they declined were missing tiny points of the face. It was silly.
  15. The shit money saga is over. Fed just deposited balance in my bank account. Not sure if I ever posted the pic from the day at the bank. 2 bankers taped all the money together.
  16. Signed the contract. Hopefully smooth sailing Thanks MonkeyDoughnut for the rec
  17. About to put a pool in so my backyard is going to be trashed. I want to use this as an excuse to change the grass type in the back. I have 2 dogs that run and have created paths in the St Augustine. What type of grass should I look for? Thinking Zoysia Palisades. Thoughts? Experiences? I’m north of Houston.

  19. Is there a thread or place TFP I can post my specs to make sure they’re what I need? Or can I post them here? I see people talking about pump sizes and heater sizes, etc. I want to make sure I’m not missing anything.
  20. Good info. Both guys are using Hayward products. Should I steer clear?
  21. Coming down to a final bids for pool and talking about cleaners. One guy telling me parts are too hard to find for robots, to use Polaris 280 Black. Robot options - he said he has been using Tiger Shark for clients looking for robots because Aqua Vac parts are too hard to find. Other guy said he’s using Aqua Vac. He also went on to tell me robots aren’t meant to be in the pool all the time and Polaris is easier to just pop it off and pull it out. Thoughts? Growing up we had a Polaris and my in-laws currently have one. Cord loves to get in the way, but it really doesn’t matter to me. Should it? I want the most efficient.
  22. One more for today. I believe both are 3.5-6 ft. Is that deep enough? Gut tells me deeper. My kids at 10/8/8.
