  1. We last drove through the area last October. Around Eureka (maybe Klamath) we saw a jacked up F-250 with a huge Trump 2024 sign. Couldn’t tell if the dude was a pessimist or an optimist.
  2. Oh yeah, I get what you mean. I was just pointing out that Cajun country is west and south of New Orleans, and New Orleans Creole is the product of the port city’s confluence of French, Spanish, Afro-Caribbean, Italian and Irish immigration. It’s a common misconception to conflate the two because they are from south Louisiana, but they have distinctly different roots. It’s all in the gumbo. I would argue there is definitely a “New Orleans restaurant”, but that’s for a different thread.
  3. Yep, lots of hiking. Eureka is kind of shitty but has a nice little downtown. Stopped in Crescent City once during a road trip and there’s a surprisingly nice brewpub there.
  4. Will vote no for the recall. Live in SF and signed both petitions to recall the DA (first has failed) and the school board.
  5. New Orleans creole Thai - northern, Isaan Vietnamese - being a Houstonian, biased to southern Chinese - Szechuan BBQ - CenTex
  6. FQF canceled, not like it’s a surprise at this point.
  7. It might work. I spent four months in NOLA during winter/spring. Bohemian oasis in the sea of MAGA fuckery it is, I found New Orleanians taking it as seriously as I’ve seen in the Bay Area. But more importantly, Louisiana gonna Louisiana. Once local governments discovered COVID fines were a cash cow, they were all over enforcement. It’s why contact-tracing lists were required long after they went out of fashion elsewhere. The issue will be with crowds hanging out on Bourbon. The city could never find a workable solution at the height of the pandemic (they even briefly banned go cups) and I doubt they will going forward.
  8. I want the city to be as smothering with its enforcement as it was last summer with its nonsense parklet rules (full meals, no standing, etc). I am tired of this shit. So happy it’s flat out full vaxxed too.
  9. I mean, I guess, but the FDA advises against it and another (non-peer reviewed) study found it had no effect whatsoever. But seriously, horse paste.
  10. San Francisco to require full vaccination for most indoor activities.
  11. Holy shit r/HermanCainAward? That’s incredible.
  12. I’m sure he’s never had a problem taking his shoes off at the airport.
  13. I don’t know if he started it, but he certainly propagated it.
  14. No, of course not. Apparently Joe Rogan completely misinterpreted a 2015 study on the phenomenon. From what I can tell, the current dominant variants, if you will, of ill-informed views on Texags/TD are (i) you can still get it/pass it so there’s utterly no point*, (ii) the vaccine is causing the super variants and (iii) IVERMECTIN!!!! *As a corollary, the eradication of polio appears to be a big “checkmate lib” talking point. I have no idea why. As it turns out, COVID led to a suspension of WHO’s polio immunization campaigns last year, leaving 30-40 million kids without inoculations. So aggy is fucking up polio, too.
  15. The common complaint on TexAgs seems to be that it isn’t apple-flavored enough.
  16. Alright, we have facts that can be readily observed and proven or disproven. Trump did not win the election, there was no voter fraud (and never has been meaningfully), Obama was born in Hawaii, John Kerry actually did earn those medals, there were never any WMDs and Saddan Hussein didn’t have fuck to do with 9/11. And there are phenomena that can be only understand through the scientific method, but have been so thoroughly researched that they are tantamount to fact: climate change is real and caused by humans, and humans evolved from apes. There have been hundreds of think-pieces over the past five years about the need for a common understanding of facts to have a social discourse, so I won’t go into that. But one can absolutely be comfortable in the conviction that another’s belief, perception or skepticism is incorrect. I’m not going to respect a person’s decision to deny the unanimity of modern medicine while they go to the fucking Tractor Supply and fight for the last of the apple-flavored horse dewormer. But more importantly, this ignorance (and that’s what it is) is the product of decades of misinformation by the conservative movement. You had, incredibly, never heard of Emmitt Till - do you know think the CRT thread would have gone differently if you had?
  17. In case you were wondering how to ingest the horse paste, TexAgs has you covered. My favorite was when someone sincerely asked if you could buy it OTC at Tractor Supply or if you needed a vet scrip.
  18. Checkmate, lib.
  19. Yep, riding in Tucks and have a house for the entire Carnival season. At this rate that’s not looking great either.
  20. Yeah, that’s so disheartening. Was going stay for both weekends. New Orleans has had an awful past eighteen months. Head over to Tigerdroppings if you want to be get really angry.
  21. Jazz Fest canceled.
  22. Yes, I happened to check in when it happened. Guy was only in his fifties, as I recall. Very long thread of condolences, and ags got IRATE of any urge to take COVID seriously. Like it would be an insult to the memory of a rural physician who died serving his community in a pandemic.
