  1. First psych fest. The port o shitters were overflowing and the cops tried to shut it down during the black angels' set. The short lived burnet rd music scene.
  2. Couple posters from the early 00's.
  3. gorch fock attic ted gadjo bango superheavy goatass tia carrera attack formation ...and then the "big" bands that weren't really so big back then, the sword, black angels, spoon
  4. 11/20 at Bass Concert Hall in Austin. Do not like that venue but will definitely be there.
  5. been listening to this album a lot recently. saw them a couple weeks ago and they were very good.

    Hereditary

enjoyed it quite a bit. definitely not the scariest movie i've ever seen, but it did a good job of maintaining an ominous, creepy vibe throughout the movie. yes, there were some ridiculous scenes and the ending left something to be desired but it was overall a good movie.

also, sign up for the amoeba newsletter. they have 15-20% off for a weekend every month and always have free shipping. and never miss a chance to go to one of their brick and mortar stores. could spend all day in there.
  9. listened to the album 3 times in a row this morning, definitely good. and i dig the sax solo.

discogs is your friend. still some great deals on used records there.
  11. First attempt at beef ribs yesterday. 5.5 hrs at 285. Easy and good.
  12. doobie brothers and steely dan on sunday night. doobies were surprisingly good, vocals still sounded perfect. despite not having walter becker steely dan still sounded pretty much the same as the last couple times i've seen them. donald fagen's voice is fairly weak but he's got the back up singers carrying most of the load. all the musicians are still top notch.
  13. had the same thing happen at work about a year ago on a brand new cooler. ozarka said it happens fairly frequently, came out and replaced it like it was no big deal.
  14. the texas gentlemen at white horse. god damn, they tore it up and laid it down. dude on keys is a monster. played a lot of country-blues-funk-jams, they showed some serious range. tx jelly is a damn good album.
  15. yeah we had no problem getting up close. a lot of people actually started leaving about 20 mins into their set.
  16. i actually thought empire was the best song of the night. i also noticed there were several songs where he changed up the lyrics. definitely prefer seeing them in a small venue, but can't beat a free concert in zilker. been a long time since i've been to blues on the green...like since it was over by the rock wall. holy shit it's a lot bigger these days. when we got back to our bikes there were some people whose bikes had been stolen, and at least one bike with both wheels gone.

    Pink Floyd

i started reading nick mason's book last week. he manages to make somewhat interesting stories very boring.
  21. listening now, very good.
  22. pond at mohawk. australian psych band that shares some of the same members with tame impala. their earlier stuff is a little heavier with some good hooks, their more recent albums have been more pop/synth focused. i wish they would've played more old stuff, they really focused on the newer synth heavy songs. they looked, and to some degree sounded, like they were straight from the 80's. lead singer was very lively and had kind of a david bowie stage presence. had been wanting to see these guys for a while, missed them at sxsw back in 2012 and they haven't been back since. would see again.
  23. was a regular there for a while when they had the best selection in town. stopped going shortly after they moved to the new location. once the austin beer scene started taking off i quickly noticed that they had very few local taps. bartender said all new taps had to be approved by their corporate office, which was a hassle and took too long. about that time a bunch of new places started opening up around town and i found a new watering hole. patio at the old place was great though.
  24. i also watched it a couple weeks ago. was familiar with his music but didn't know his whole story. was pretty shocking how badly those movies fucked him up, music wise. it also didn't really address why he never told col. parker to fuck off. seems like he was pretty content with those movie paychecks rolling in. the little jam session for the 1968 special with him and his band sitting in a circle was good.
  25. all them witches, mastodon, primus at cota friday night. emptiest i've ever seen that place. lawn was closed off, upper seats were maybe 1/4 full and the lower seats and pit were mostly full. it's impossible to get to this shit venue by 7:00pm so we missed all but one song of all them witches. they sounded good. the sound for mastodon was very muddy. they played lots of stuff off the new album. i've come around on some of those songs, thought steambreather was really good. wish they could've played longer. the sound was great for primus. played 4 or 5 old songs then played the entire new album, which clearly nobody gave a shit about. it was basically a 7 song piss break, a fair number of people actually left at that point. then they played some more old tunes. they sounded great, even the new stuff had interesting moments, particularly with claypool on upright bass.
