  1. History's what they say it is. Trump won the 2020 election. Ukraine is run by Nazis. Putin is a hero. Kim Jong Un is a misunderstood, US ally. There's a pedo ring out of a pizzeria in DC. And the earth is flat. Millions of Americans believe these things.
  2. Yeah, but who the fuck would want to live longer in that tiny tube, with a dead body or two, no bathroom, no food, no water, slowly suffocating in the dark.
  3. How about Hawaii? The only large ship cruise I've done is Alaska on Celebrity, and as others have said, Celebrity is nice, not a floating Walmart, but not enough time in port to explore more than the touristy gift shops. I've also done a Nile cruise and a windjammer up the Maine coast, both of which were fantastic. But I would guess a Hawaii cruise would get a less trashy crowd (more expensive, harder to get there).
  4. I was there a few weeks ago. Just tapped my credit card in and out of the tube with no issues.
  5. Lou Mitchell's isn't too far from there.
  6. He won't even need to pardon himself. He'll just tell the federal prisons not to execute the order of confinement. He'll be the head of the executive branch, and his employees, who are likely trumpers anyway, will simply not imprison him.
  7. His party stayed behind him after he tried to overthrow the government. Not sure why you think this, or anything, would sway anyone.
  8. It's real. It's taken directly from the indictment.
  9. Exactly. Hell, he could just order that the federal prison system not execute the confinement order. Even if he's in NY State prison, he'd get out under the supremacy clause. He could be on video handing over a document entitled nuclear secrets to Putin, and still nothing would happen, even if he were somehow convicted.
  10. I don't think it matters. Either way, he's "elected" president in 2024. And I mean the quotes around "elected," because he's already done the dry run for stealing the presidency. The sitting president isn't sitting in prison. Or even being criminally tried.
  11. I live a few miles outside nyc. The view of the Manhattan skyline today.
  12. My place smells like I had a campfire in the middle of it.
  13. My mother was on hospice for years. She was a lot younger than Carter, but had terminal cancer and was given less than 6 months to live (a prognosis that never changed) and managed to live more than 5 years after that prognosis, despite not receiving treatment. Edit to add: Just telling this story to say that it can happen, not that it's likely. And honestly, her quality of life when she was on hospice was piss poor given how sick she was that entire time.
  14. Well, I'm convinced. Because 26 people were shot in Chicago, we should do nothing about school children being shot.
  15. You're right we should ignore gun violence. Because of climate change, racism, deficits, immigration, and health care. None of which you actually intend to improve anyway.
  16. They're all garbage. And lazy. There's no actual investigative journalism. It's all commentators opining about one or two top stories of the day, and ignoring the rest of the world. But if I had to rank: 1. MSNBC--yes, it's to the left. But there is some actual journalism on occasion, probably through NBC News 2. CNN 3. Fox---solely "entertainment" trafficking in misinformation and grievances. The trump show was bullshit. A. They shouldn't have been giving someone who tried to overthrow the government a platform to spout lies. B. And this goes with ranking the networks, a "journalist" trying to confront someone isn't journalism. Their job shouldn't be to score points off subjects. It's to uncover and let us know what's going on in the world. The trump show did none of that.
  17. Desire to be part of the tribe won't evaporate. That's not how cults work.
  18. There's NRA Russian money to be had. Who the fuck cares about constituents? Especially in gerrymandered districts and when you're planning on ignoring unfavorable election results anyway.
  19. That's what they want. The men enacting these laws know their wives, daughters, and mistresses, will just be able to travel to NY or CA and get an abortion. But they want more poor people and more crime. The cruelty is the point. https://law.stanford.edu/publications/the-impact-of-legalized-abortion-on-crime-over-the-last-two-decades/. More crime is the goal. They know legal abortion leads to less crime. Donohue and Levitt (2001) presented evidence that the legalization of abortion in the early 1970s played an important role in the crime drop of the 1990s. That paper concluded with a strong out-of-sample prediction regarding the next two decades: “When a steady state is reached roughly twenty years from now, the impact of abortion will be roughly twice as great as the impact felt so far. Our results suggest that all else equal, legalized abortion will account for persistent declines of 1% a year in crime over the next two decades.” Estimating parallel specifications to the original paper, but using the seventeen years of data generated after that paper was written, we find strong support for the prediction and the broad hypothesis, while illuminating some previously unrecognized patterns of crime and arrests. We estimate that overall crime fell 17.5% from 1998 to 2014 due to legalized abortion— a decline of 1% per year. From 1991 to 2014, the violent and property crime rates each fell by 50%. Legalized abortion is estimated to have reduced violent crime by 47% and property crime by 33% over this period, and thus can explain most of the observed crime decline.
  20. At least what I've been reacting to in what you're saying, is that you're proactively justifying something that is simply the wrong decision. If I'm being honest, I don't know how I'd react in the moment with a stranger shouting they'd been shot, at night, outside my door. But I'd certainly like to believe that I would do everything I could to help that kid. And I can't imagine spending pages justifying a hypothetical decision to let a kid bleed out on my lawn. Regardless of what hypothetical excuses I could dream up.
  21. Yes. In numbers' cherrypicking data from CA and TX from a time period before TX even had concealed carry.
