  1. This. I went to Finnish Lapland a few years ago in early March, and maybe the best trip I've ever done. Saw the northern lights multiple times, stayed in a glass igloo, dogsledding in untouched gorgeous wilderness, skiing, snowmobiling, Santa Claus Village in Rovaniemi, ice breaker boat, sauna
  2. Um, no Star Trek on the list.
  3. So with the asteroid, "all mankind" is going to be on Mars soon, right?
  4. I flew IcelandAir on a couple trips a few years ago, once connecting to Geneva, and the other time a trip to Iceland. I think they only have 757's in their fleet, so the plane is a little small for such a long flight since you mention being claustrophobic, but I don't recall it being uncomfortable. I was in coach so not sure what business is like, but in coach at least the only food was for sale. I don't remember much about it, so it couldn't have been too bad. KEF is a nice airport. Although on the Geneva trip in summer had to walk outside in 40 degree weather to make the connection--was not dressed for that.
  5. I don't think that's the issue. It's that the TX abortion ban only has a "medical exception" if the mother's life is in immediate danger. There's no medical exception for risk of infertility, a fetus that can't survive, or anything else. It's not just abortion. I can't imagine anyone wanting to be an OB/GYN in Texas right now. Good luck to Texas hospital systems trying to lure OB residents into their programs. In a few years, there will be an even bigger crisis.
  6. Kimberly Akimbo.
  7. It looks like they had another target within the US but after being stopped at the border they intentionally blew up their vehicle rather than be searched/taken in for questioning. https://abcnews.go.com/US/rainbow-bridge-us-canada-closed-explosion-sources/story?id=105102476&fbclid=IwAR2X0OBqIQroUyhj8VRFZv7IlqAHCeMX4T2B1dy1oIhf0U2MZ-AIvJFUSgo The Niagara Falls mayor's office said the incident involved a vehicle crossing into the U.S. from Canada. Surveillance video showed the vehicle stopped at an initial security checkpoint, according to sources briefed on the investigation. The vehicle was then directed to a secondary security checkpoint, and at that point the vehicle sped up and crashed into the secondary screening location, sources said.
  8. I met her once, at some Bar event, a number of years ago when Obama was president. Someone at my table asked her about dotard's birther bullshit, and she just shook her head and said "Oh, that Donny."
  9. Most places in London don't even take cash. I stupidly took 100 pounds out of an ATM shortly after landing there a few months ago. 80 pounds is still sitting in my wallet.
  10. JFC. https://www.nytimes.com/2023/09/08/us/philadelphia-eddie-irizarry-police-shooting.html A Philadelphia police officer was charged with murder after he fatally shot a 27-year-old man who was in his car at near point-blank range, prosecutors announced on Friday, weeks after top police officials announced that body camera footage of the killing showed a different account than what the officer initially described. In addition to the first-degree murder charge, the officer, Mark Dial, was charged with voluntary manslaughter, aggravated assault, simple assault, possession of an instrument of crime, reckless endangerment of another person and official oppression in the shooting death of Eddie Irizarry, prosecutors said at a news conference on Friday. Mr. Dial fatally shot Mr. Irizarry around noon on Aug. 14 after what the police initially said was a car chase ending in Mr. Irizarry lunging at them with a knife. But police officials said two days later that body camera footage showed that the man was still in his car when the officer shot him. The fatal shooting and changing account sparked community anger and protests. In an unusual move, Judge Christian DiCicco of the Philadelphia Municipal Court set bail for Mr. Dial at $500,000. According to court records, a third party posted the requisite $50,000 deposit on Mr. Dial’s behalf, allowing him to be released.
  11. Better public transportation in Chicago and a greater percentage of the population that doesn't own a car.
  12. Subaru Crosstrek. Bought it because wanted a stick, but driving up to the mountains all winter. Had a lot of engine problems and wound up trading it in, but supposedly the new ones are better.
  13. Average RN salary in Texas is around $73k, public school teacher $59k, firefighter $52k, police officer $61k. Obv all these people are not willing to fully participate and deserve to live a lifestyle where they're earning less than half of a middle class salary ($250k).
  14. You do know that cardiac arrest and heart attack are not the same thing? No, you clearly don't know that. There hasn't been any reporting that he suffered a heart attack.
  15. History's what they say it is. Trump won the 2020 election. Ukraine is run by Nazis. Putin is a hero. Kim Jong Un is a misunderstood, US ally. There's a pedo ring out of a pizzeria in DC. And the earth is flat. Millions of Americans believe these things.
  16. Yeah, but who the fuck would want to live longer in that tiny tube, with a dead body or two, no bathroom, no food, no water, slowly suffocating in the dark.
  17. How about Hawaii? The only large ship cruise I've done is Alaska on Celebrity, and as others have said, Celebrity is nice, not a floating Walmart, but not enough time in port to explore more than the touristy gift shops. I've also done a Nile cruise and a windjammer up the Maine coast, both of which were fantastic. But I would guess a Hawaii cruise would get a less trashy crowd (more expensive, harder to get there).
  18. I was there a few weeks ago. Just tapped my credit card in and out of the tube with no issues.
  19. Lou Mitchell's isn't too far from there.
  20. He won't even need to pardon himself. He'll just tell the federal prisons not to execute the order of confinement. He'll be the head of the executive branch, and his employees, who are likely trumpers anyway, will simply not imprison him.
