  1. This. The thugs acted this way, knowing that their actions were being caught on camera. They knew there would be no consequences. And they're only facing consequences now because of public outcry. Had the guy who was pulled over not been active duty military, making him a "perfect plaintiff" in a 1983 action and increasing public awareness, they 1000% would still be on the job. I guarantee this was not the first time they treated a member of the public like this.
  2. Average police salary in Minneapolis is $61,180, and that's not taking into account overtime, etc. But, yes, let's pay police more. And also hold them responsible when they fuck up. If they want to be treated like professionals, they need to act like professionals. And she needs to be charged with manslaughter. I'm not familiar with MN criminal code, and think murder may not apply. But if you go to taze someone and don't make damn sure you're actually holding a tazer and not a gun, you need to be held responsible under the law.
  3. We need to start by no longer considering police "para-military." The first time I saw a police squad referred to as a "paramilitary unit" (about 20 years ago), I remember being shocked by the term used to describe a force in my own city made up of my neighbors. We now accept that as normal. We even give them military weapons. Also, Maryland had a good start on this a few days ago. https://thehill.com/homenews/state-watch/547536-maryland-legislature-overrides-governors-veto-on-police-reform-bill
  4. Plitvice Lakes. Dubrovnik was amazing and feels like something you have to see. That said, it was extremely crowded when we were there in September. We basically found stuff to do outside the city walls during the day when the cruise ships were there, and then explored Dubrovnik at night. We also went to Hvar, which was beautiful. But very touristy. If I had to do it again, I'd go to Vis instead.
  5. I went to Croatia in late September, a few years back. Weather was still warm and beautiful and perfect beach weather. It was still pretty crowded--- I can only imagine the hoards of tourists in August. Although maybe it's better now without the cruise ships.
  6. Don't stay in Estes. Go through the park and stay in Grand Lake. Much better. Too late for that now. I already have a cabin booked at Estes. And going at the end of August, after school is back in, so hopefully not crazy crowded.
  7. Any suggestions for what to do at Estes Park or Rocky Mountain National Park? Just booked a place there for a week this summer.
  8. It's a bizarre hill to die on. Even taking sack's ridiculous take as true, at best, Chauvin is a sociopath who kneeled on a guy's neck for 9 minutes, even after he was rendered unconscious, even had Floyd somehow coincidentally died at the exact same moment due to a drug overdose or heart attack. Chauvin's obviously entitled to a defense. But I don't get why a member of the public would have any desire to carry water for him.
  9. Yes. The cops clearly wanted to escalate the traffic stop. They wanted pull out their guns. And, I think, the purported justification for calling this a "felony" stop, was that the uppity black man deigned to not pull over immediately, instead driving to a well lit area to pull over.
  10. Why wasn’t the guy who was pulled over acting like a perfect model citizen, obeying confusing commands absolutely perfectly when two assholes are pointing guns at him while hysterically yelling at him at top volume and informing him that he “better be afraid” to follow their “commands”? And why are people more angry at the guy screamed at to “get out of the car” while also being told he should be scared to get of the car while two guns are pointed at him than the roid ragers whose salaries we pay who are acting on our collective authority with guns we paid for failing to act with even a tiny amount of decency? And it’s worse that he’s in the military. But they shouldn’t be treating anyone this way. Certainly not on a traffic stop. Hell, at the beginning of the video, they called it in as a “felony stop.” Apparently, because he had the audacity to want to be in a well lit place before interacting with the officers who pulled him over for no reason (they were wrong that his car didn’t have tags—they didn’t see them).
  11. Second Moderna on Wednesday. The shot itself was painless, and other than a sore arm I felt fine the rest of the day. Thursday I felt like crap. I just hurt all over and was exhausted and wound up sleeping about 12 hours last night. Today I feel fine, although I'm still a little tired despite a ridiculous amount of sleep.
  12. Second Moderna yesterday. Arm was sore immediately after, but felt fine otherwise yesterday. Today I feel like shit.
  13. Lulz at books. Like his supporters read. It'll be tv's. Lots and lots of tv's, showing his perfect rallies on repeat. Edit to add: along with selling MAGA gear. All made in China.
  14. Second Moderna shot a couple hours ago. Feel fine other than my arm and shoulder are really sore, way worse than after the first shot. Hope that's not a sign I'll have bad side effects tomorrow.
  15. Bullshit. But here's a long list someone took the time to compile. And was the first hit on a google search if you were truly curious. https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2020/11/trumps-lies-about-coronavirus/608647/
  16. What was the question?
  17. If you actually gave a damn about quality reporting, instead of just being an asshole you would shut up about this. After holding water for a president who spent years yelling "FAKE NEWS," even when there was video evidence it was real, and lying constantly, you have lost any and all credibility on the subject. You're commenting on journalistic integrity or Cuomo isn't going to lead anyone who hasn't drunk orange Kool-Aid to anything but knee jerk defense of what happened because of your blatant hypocrisy. If you actually gave a damn about journalistic integrity or sexual assault or protecting elderly nursing home patients, and given your other posts over the past year or so you plainly don't, you'd shut up and let the adults do the talking.
  18. Anecdotal, and I'm in NJ. But appointments have been hard to come by--need to constantly look, refresh computer, and book the second something opens. This week, the county opened up thousands of appointments.
  19. Probably not. He's probably a radical Islamic terrorist or MS-13 member or something. I doubt he was white given that the police shot and killed him.
  20. Discredit them with what exactly though? So far they tried to discredit them by asking if they were "angry," and that backfired with of course I was angry I watched your client murder a man. And these were just normal people on the street, who have no vested interest in this case, so it's not like they have biases to examine. And it's not even like there's problems with their memory of what happened to question them about, given that the entire thing was caught on video. If Chauvin was anyone but a cop, his attorney would have told him in no uncertain terms to enter a plea deal. Because the case is indefensible.
  21. It just reminds of nothing so much as the attorneys for police I saw in practice, who would make asinine arguments, and clearly expect them to be bought because their clients were upstanding officers of the law who we should all respect. I practiced civil defense for years. And the two most blatant plaintiff liars I ever saw were both cops. One just perjured himself for hours straight at his deposition. There were multiple defendants, and all the defense lawyers were gobsmacked the entire time at the blatant, constant perjury, even over dumb unimportant facts. And it was readily apparent neither the plaintiff nor his attorney realized what was going on and thought we bought the entire shit sandwich. This just enrages me. It's a clear shit sandwich of a case. And his lawyers are making some of the dumbest arguments I've ever heard. But he'll probably be acquitted because at least one member of the jury will gleefully eat shit sandwich.
  22. I don't understand the defense's theory with the cross of the clerk. If Floyd was so dangerous and also such a criminal, then how the hell was he so close to death he died of a Fentanyl overdose just minutes later?
