  1. I don't know who Star Jackson was, but his name sounds like what a lazy, LA-based writer who knows nothing about sports would name the QB for some terrible TV movie.
  2. Did not know that and just read about it. Wow, that sucks. I wonder if he was already down a bad path, or did his crash at UT send him down that road? He was a top student in high school. CTE? Robert Joseph Syndrome (RJS)? That's terrible and sad.
  3. Pretty much what Romance Taylor did when he had himself arrested.
  4. From ai: The University of Texas has seen several highly touted football recruits who, for various reasons, did not meet the lofty expectations set during their recruitment. Here are some notable examples: 1. Derick Roberson (Class of 2014): A top-rated edge rusher from San Antonio, Roberson's tenure at Texas was marred by injuries and limited playing time. He eventually transferred to Sam Houston State, where he found more success. hookemheadlines.com 2. Erick Fowler (Class of 2016): A four-star linebacker from Manor, Texas, Fowler was expected to bolster the Longhorns' defense. However, he struggled to find his footing and saw minimal action before transferring to another program. hookemheadlines.com 3. Andrew Fitzgerald (Class of 2016): A promising defensive end from Flower Mound, Texas, Fitzgerald's career was unfortunately cut short due to injuries, leading him to retire from football in 2018 without significant on-field contributions. hookemheadlines.com 4. Johntay Cook II (Class of 2023): A five-star wide receiver from DeSoto, Texas, Cook showed early promise but faced challenges off the field. After a modest freshman season, he left the program and faced legal issues in early 2025, hindering his football career. (LOL) chron.com 5. Garrett Gilbert (Class of 2009): A highly ranked quarterback from Austin, Texas, Gilbert was expected to continue Texas's legacy of strong quarterback play. Despite his high school success, he struggled during his tenure with the Longhorns, leading to a transfer to SMU, where he found more stability. These cases highlight the unpredictable nature of college football, where even the most promising talents may face challenges that prevent them from reaching their full potential at a given program.
  5. More recent: Troy Omeire. Had such high hopes for him. There's an infinite loop that plays in my head each fall saying Troy's gonna have a breakout year, but injuries did him in. Glad he's having success at Arizona State. Even more recently, Isaiah Neyor. He played one game for at UT before transferring. Poor guy.
  6. Lol, Ryan Perrilloux's glorious NFL career: "On January 13, 2011, Perrilloux was signed to a reserve/future contract with the New York Giants.[33] On September 3, 2011, he was cut from the Giants' roster.[34] He was re-signed the same day to the practice squad, released from the practice squad on September 17 and was once more re-signed on September 23.[34] Perrilloux was waived again on September 28.[34] He was re-signed to the practice squad on October 8, but released again on October 12, only to be re-signed once more on October 17.[34] He was released from the practice squad again on November 2, 2011[35] and then signed to the practice squad again on November 11, 2011, before being released once again on November 26, 2011.[36] He was re-signed during the 2012 offseason and was released for the final time by the Giants during the final cut of the 2012 preseason.[3"
  7. I guess it is fair to name Perrilloux as a bust, as he has lots of off-field incidents and was eventually kicked off the LSU team, ended up underachieving at Jacksonville State, and never played in the NFL. However, unlike most of the other players in this thread, he did have one amazing game and was named the MVP of the SEC championship game, so that is redeeming, to some degree.
  8. What are you talking about? I've never heard of any of those players. There was no Longhorn football played between 2010-2022. They didn't even have a team, games or anything.
  9. Darrell Scott is one of the most famous busts of his era, for sure. He was a Texas commit for some time. After a semi-promising freshman season at CU, he demanded more playing time, transferred to UCLA, then South Florida, where he ended up having a marginally-successful career. He never played a down in the NFL.
  10. Brennan Eagles is a good one. I had such high expectations for him. How about D'Onta Foreman's brother, Armante? If I recall, D'Onta was only brought to make Armante happy and was an unknown afterthought.
  11. For me, Burnette is less about being a great player (though I thought he would be at least good) and more just for the extremely stunning and ridiculous way he sabotaged his own career. To ruin your career in one Facebook post is truly legendary. I actually felt sorry for him being so stupid.
  12. Tracking the spectacular, Dateline-worthy self-immolation currently being orchestrated by Johntay Cook got me thinking: Every college football fan, Longhorn or otherwise, has that one recruit they were sure would become a legend — only to watch them flame out in spectacular fashion. I’m talking about the ones who dominated in high school, put up record-breaking numbers, and were hailed as the “next big thing”… only to disappear into obscurity due to injuries, a bad fit, off-field issues, bad luck or otherwise. Who’s the biggest bust you’ve ever hyped up? You know — the one you told all your friends who are fans of other programs to ‘watch out’ for. Drop your most disappointing high school-to-college disasters in the comments. I’ll start with two Longhorns I mentioned in the Johntay thread from 2007-2008: Buck Burnette was an offensive lineman recruit from Wimberley. Buck may have been good at hunting deer, but unfortunately for Buck, he needed a trigger lock on his fingers, as he invited hunters on Facebook to bag Barack Obama after he won his first term. Using the N-word was also a nice touch. (No alcohol was involved in this incident at all.) Never played a down for the Horns. Andre Jones was a heartbreaker for me. Andre was a five-star defensive lineman from El Paso who also never played a down, as he got implicated in a strange robbery case w/ model citizen Robert Joseph. (remember him?) Andre Jones always claimed he wasn't even at the scene of the apartment robbery and it was a case of mistaken identify, but he was unable to clear his name, as the video evidence his lawyer produced was inconclusive. We will never know the truth, but poor Andre was cooked. That sucks if that poor guy got shafted, but pretty much anyone who hung out w Robert Joseph was compromising their career, reputation, safety, citizenship, life, etc. Love to hear yours. It can be from any college.
  13. Here is Arch throwing marshmallows from the shoot I attended. Really fun. insaneshayne1 is a pretty nice guy, too.
  14. Ohhhh, it was just a normal case of stealing car keys in the drive-though window!!! Whew! Thanks heavens. I originally thought that it was something strange!
  15. Okay, update: Here is the official reason Johntay got arrested in Fort Worth. If true, wow. Fort Worth police told WFAA that officers responded to a call for service where Cook allegedly went into the "drive-thru of a business, reached inside the window and stole someone's car keys." Fort Worth police said Cook "left the location," and then officers later made contact with Cook, he did not comply with their demands and was arrested. Officers were able to recover the stolen keys, FWPD said. Tarrant County records showed Cook posted bond on Feb. 4.
  16. From the old days.
  17. Let the haters hate. My boy will be fully exonerated from these perfidious claims. So will P Diddy.
  18. Do you think there might be a teeny-weeny chance that Jerry Jones asked Dak to make that statement? I can't think of any other reason Dak would say something so embarrassing, unless, maybe he's...stupid?
  19. This makes me want to start a thread of the biggest Longhorn busts of all time. Two linemen come to mind: Buck Burnette was an offensive lineman recruit from Wimberley who posted about hunting Black people after Obama won his first term. Never played a down for the Horns. Andre Jones was a five-star defensive lineman from El Paso who also never played a down, as he got implicated in a robbery case w model citizen Robert Joseph. (remember him?) Andre Jones always claimed he wasn't even at the scene of the robbery and it was a case of mistaken identify, but he was unable to clear his name, as the video evidence his lawyer produced was inconclusive. That sucks if that guy got shafted, but pretty much anyone who hung out w Robert Joseph was screwed. Who can you think of?
  20. The only similarity between Matt Stafford and Dak Prescott is that both are corporeal life forms.
  21. Jayden Daniels now has as many playoff wins as Dak Prescott. The fact that Prescott is the highest paid player in the NFL is insane.
  22. I liked your post, so I expanded it into a poem using iambic pentameter, courtesy of ai: Where are the ones who guide him on his path, The kin, the friends, the voices strong and wise? His fortune fades like footprints lost in sand, A wealth that years could nurture, now at risk. Oh, may Johntay find his way once more, And cast aside the shadowed steps he treads. No tale of folly, scandal, or regret— But only strength and promise in its place. For once he wore the burnt-orange proud and bold, A Longhorn’s heart still beats within his chest. So let him rise, let clearer days unfold, And may his future shine beyond the rest. Hook ‘em! msucolt45
  23. “I feel like we compete with the Eagles and beat them for the most part when we play them. I don’t want to say check the record when they’re the guys holding the trophy right now, so credit to them, they’ve earned it and they deserve it by all means. But yeah, very close.” Dak Prescott Lol. Once again, here are 16 NFL QB's I would still rather have as my QB then pay Dak Prescott $60 million. I removed Aaron Rogers and Trevor Lawrence from the list and added Bo Nix. Lamar Jackson Josh Allen Joe Burrow Jared Goff Sam Darnold Baker Mayfield Jayden Daniels Patrick Mahomes Justin Herbert Jordan Love Matthew Stafford Brock Purdy Jalen Hurts Bo Nix C.J. Stroud Caleb Williams
  24. Well, yes, yes I have. Don't lots of people do that?
  25. I guess no one showed this map to Brittney Griner.
