It doesn't matter how fucking fast a guy is if he doesn't catch the ball. Also as I recall LJH had shitty times too and everyone bitched about how slow he would be. Until he started catching every fucking ball in his zip code.
It wasn't just an opinion/perception thing though. His actual performance in year 1 was attrocious and worthy of the discussion. The LBs were just awful in year 1 with Brockermeyer leading the way and then followed that by not signing a difference maker either in the recruiting class or the portal.
He's dramatically stepped up in both player performance and talent addition over the last year and I'm thrilled to see it and glad he had the chance to do it. It goes to show that maybe making snap decisions on firing coaches based on minimal data isn't always a great idea. Nonetheless, the discussions at least were warrented last year.
All I know is week after week we had the "experts" on here telling us how Vegas didn't know what they were doing with the spread in our games. And yet we're 7-4 against the spread so if you bet on texas against the spread every game you'd be in the black. The Surly "experts"? Yeah, they'd be bleeding red right now.
It was Jalon Daniels first game back after several weeks out. There was going to be some adjustment for him coming back, and you could argue he looked better in the second half. It's conceivable he shook off the rust against us and will get the offense rolling to make a game of it against KSU.
Always interesting to me how fanbases that haven't won a damn thing in the modern era (yes, I'm looking at you too aggy and Baylor) develop Bama level cockiness with a few years of modest success.
