  1. Graham ran the Rice program into the ground and left it with limited talent (hence the abundance of JuCos-Cruz and Canterino-drafted last year only good players). We’ve done a good job of recruiting in Bragga’s first year+ on the offensive side but the staff leaves a lot to be desired.
  2. Eh, my place is 450 SqFt so it’s a bit bigger than a hotel room, but point taken. I certainly didn’t make the move for housing reasons... Career considerations, distance to family, and access to recreational opportunities were bigger reasons.
  3. East Harlem isn’t one of the most expensive neighborhoods in Harlem, so not sure exactly what you mean. Generally speaking, rents increase as you go west in Harlem. Public transit leaves something to be desired in East Harlem as they haven’t extended the 2nd Avenue Subway past 96th yet. I recently moved from Dallas to the Upper East Side (live in the 80’s) and I was paying $1,400 for a 2017 build, 750sqft place in Frisco prior to the move. I now have a pre-war studio with no dishwasher for $1900/month. That said, one nice thing about living in a pre-war building is that I don’t have to pay for water/heat so my all-in cost is probably only $400 higher vs. $500.
  4. A couple points of clarification as I used to deal with a lot of these grocers for work: Kroger Owns (in addition to the “Kroger” banner): -Harris Teeter -King Sooper’s -Food 4 Less -Mariano’s -Fry’s -Fred Meyer -Dillon’s -Smith’s -Ralph’s -QFC -Roundy’s Albertsons Owns (in addition to the “Albertsons” banner): -Acme -Shaw’s -Jewel-Osco -Safeway -Tom Thumb -Randall’s -Market Street -Haggen -Amigos
  5. Don’t exactly understand the instinctual opposition to a coach just because he’s from Rutgers when the DL coach many are clamoring for went 4-20 in his last two years at Rice before “falling upward.”
  6. Parker Braun’s brother just broke his pledge with UGA.
  7. So stopped in Texarkana for a meal at Naaman’s Championship BBQ-Had a great meal... The brisket was moist and evenly cooked, the sausage was a solid, and even the pulled pork hit the spot... No complaints on the sides either. The most unique part of the joint was certainly the sauce-it had a sweet taste to it, which I’m normally not a fan of... But I thought this version was done well. That said-it no longer belongs in the Texas BBQ discussion, as it has moved across the street from its prior location (in a very nice building) and now has an Arkansas address.
  8. This sounds good. I’ve been to all the Dallas area joints (it’s where I live)... Other online reviews also are promising
  9. Best ‘cue driving east on I-30 from Dallas? Moving out of state next Saturday and I figure it’d be fitting to have some smoked meats before I leave the state.
  10. From my time at Rice and meeting people in/around Houston, the only high school that seemed to produce students head and shoulders above the others (on average) was St. John’s. From what I could tell-it seemed tough to go to St John’s and go to a school “worse” than UT. I once asked my buddy how many people in his class at SJS went to A&M, and he said one. But, if you’re talking Bellaire, Lamar, Strake, Kinkaid, etc... Smart kids from all of them, and I’m sure plenty of idiots too.
  11. The Big 12 is the second best conference per the computers...
  12. This is a stupid argument-Good coaches are good coaches... For example, Urban’s (everyone’s wet dream) tactics at Utah (who was a G5 team at the time) carried over at relative blue blood UF. That said-if you are to hire from the G5 level, you need to hire a coach who has succeeded at a G5 school where it’s tough to win (see Rhule, Matt or Fleck, PJ)... Not UH which will always have great talent (by G5 standards) due to its location and academic standards (lack thereof).
  13. Yup... I think peak millennial is those who were coming out of college during the ‘08 financial crisis and couldn’t find a job. I graduated college into the roaring Trump economy ;)!
  14. I really lack a generation-born in early ‘96... I’m too young to remember the world without computers, but old enough to remember the world with dial-up internet being the standard. I’m old enough to remember 9/11 vividly (I was in kindergarten and there were kids in my school system that had loved ones killed), but wasn’t politically aware enough to pay attention to the Saddam/WMDs hoopla. My parents are much the same way... Born in 1963, they technically fit into the boomer generation (usually defined as ‘46-‘64)... However, each had vastly different childhood experiences. My mom is the daughter of a WW2 Officer (graduated West Point in January ‘43 and deployed to Italy in ‘44 and ‘45), with three older brothers, the oldest of which was born in 1947. One of her brothers was a draft dodger during Vietnam, etc... So in many ways, she had a very traditional Boomer experience. On the other hand, my dad is the oldest of five, with four sisters who are definitively Gen X. His parents are part of the “lost generation,” born in the late 1930’s-they were elementary school kids during WWII...
  15. If you go to QC, I’d ski Mont St Anne or Le Massif rather than Tremblant.
  16. All hell is breaking lose here in Frisco now.. Very, very strong winds in this squall line.
  17. Yeah, it’s a four month assignment... I essentially had to tell them tomorrow whether or not I wanted to be “considered” or not... I told them to consider me so we will see what happens... Good to hear that the scene is improving and that there’s a good expat community... I figure I’d spend about half of my weekends in Hyderabad and half traveling to other cities... Kind of like the study-abroad semester I never did, haha!
  18. I potentially have the opportunity to relocate temporarily to Hyderabad as part of an outsourcing implementation program (get at me, Trump)... I’ve been to India (Delhi and Jaipur) before, but never to the south. Has anyone ever spent any time there? My gut says go for it, since it’d probably be a good career move and even if I hate it, the end will always be in sight... But still, is it so bad that I’ll feel like I wasted four months of my life on this planet? Am I going to want to fly to Dubai or Singapore every weekend? I’m a 24 y/o single white guy FWIW.

    Dallas | BBQ

Went to Delta Blue’s today... Good food, good ambiance, but very expensive... It won’t be in my weekly rotation but I can see the appeal for the Plano business crowd who’s sick of Whiskey Cake and the like.
  20. Michael Griffin going nuts on LHN. All-time rant.

I was at Blu’s on Sunday for the first time... Not sure what kinks you’re referring to, but I had a good meal. My only complaint is that if you want to eat there, they still serve the food to you in a to-go bag.
  22. Braun did not have extensive pass-blocking experience at GT...
  23. It’s amazing to me that Braun is the second best pass-blocker on the offensive line with only three months of experience doing it... That should say something about the talent level on right side of the line.
  24. On a totally different topic-my uncle is coming in for Texas-OU-wants to go to a high school game Friday night... Any ideas on best game? Thinking Frisco Lone Star vs Frisco Independence... Both are undefeated though Independence doesn’t seem to be getting as much love???

    FUCK OU

Forecasted high of 66 and bright sunshine for game day. Glorious.
