  1. Wife and I did Tribute last night. We had the crab appetizer and it was very good. We shared the smoked wagyu short ribs and they were the richest meat I have ever eaten. We could not finish our 1/2 portions. Excellent smoke job. We drank a bottle of Leviathan wine that was good. Finished up with the churro dessert. Overall a very good meal. They have completely remodeled the old Olivette and bar next door. The bar is pretty neat but the restaurant still has a hotel feel to it. We will go again.
  2. Ha! Erxleben was holed up in Hills of Lakeway. What a piece of shit!
  3. It is a wonderful part of Patagonia. I stayed at Llao Llao. A great resort with very good food. Then toured the lakes to the north and on to San Martin. Another great, small resort town. Stayed at Tipiliuke, a private resort on 60,000 acres. Best trout fishing, quail hunting, red stag hunting in Patagonia. I highly recommend.
  4. Spatchcocked a 12.5 lb turkey. Used the Tony Cachere cajun butter injector and used 1 ounce per pound of bird. Smoked on the BGE at 300 degrees for 2 hours. Pulled the bird at 155 degrees and tented in foil. Internal temp rose to 165ish degrees. Let rest for 1 hour then carved. It was the best bird I have ever smoked. The family was ecstatic They ate the whole thing and ignored the smoked ham.
  5. I shot a lot of deer in Talley Bottoms about 35 years ago. Great place. Killed lots of ducks there also.
  6. NSAA is the main reason I am on this board. Help before I am too old to remember my login and password.
  7. Korea House is one of my favorites. It is my go to place on West Anderson. The service is quick and the lunch specials are very good.
  8. How much was the service for the old Rolex? I just took my President in and got a shock. I had never had it serviced in 15 years and it just stopped running one day. Apparently, I should have had it cleaned and serviced every 3 years. The quote is $1,400 to get it going again.
  9. Baboons in Africa are a bigger problem than hogs in Texas. Ranchers kill every one they can. In Windhoek, all of the homes have electric fencing to keep the baboons out. Without a doubt, the picture with the family of baboons was a huge mistake. Hard to believe he would post that.
  10. I have some 168 grain Hornady A-max loaded at 1000 fps and 150 grain Game Kings at same speed. They kill deer effectively under 100 yards. I have used them for culling does and have not had any problems.
  11. Elephants are a difficult topic in Africa. Native Africans hate elephants. They trample and destroy their vital crops, take down fences at will and generally make life difficult for the millions of Africans that live in rural communities. It worked out pretty well when all the natives had were spears and arrows. A few elephants would die and the meat would be utilized. The others would be harassed and leave for more peaceful environments. Now, there are guns and poisons. It is much easier to kill an elephant now with either a bullet or a bottle of cyanide. The elephants are also plagued by the poachers. Unemployment is so high in all of the elephant occupying countries that the opportunity to make a few bucks for a small tusk, skin or horn makes poaching a viable occupation. That and "bush meat" makes it very hard on the indigenous wildlife. The native African does not have the concept of conservation in their background nor is it a part of the social structure. They only understand the concept of living day to day. I have been to Africa many times. I have hunted in all of the elephant countries. It is very difficult to understand what is going on over there without experiencing it. The continent is being assaulted by all sides. First, the native Africans are ill equipped socially to operate as independent countries in the modern society. Those that rule, do not do so for the benefit of the people. Corruption and stealing of national resources is the common theme. Democracy is a foreign concept to them. The Chinese and Koreans are very skilled at taking advantage of these countries. I have been 250 miles from the nearest town and gone to a village where every mud hut has a solar battery charger and every adult has a cell phone. All given to them by either country for mining rights. There are fake Chevys, Toyotas, F150's, etc... They look just like the cars here in the US but are made illegally with the least expensive cast parts. There are fake Apple stores in most large cities. You can go in and they look just like Apple products but are Chinese knock offs. It is very sad there and I see no upside for wildlife in the future. The only positive is that the continent is so large. About 5 years ago, I was hunting in Zimbabwe when we got word that an extremely large elephant had been killed. We went to look at it and it was 120 lbs per side. This was near Hwange National Park and no one had ever seen this elephant before. It had lived its 50+ year life without coming in contact with someone with a camera or rifle. There are millions of square miles that have very little hunting/poaching pressure at the present time.
  12. More stripes on the bag. What do I win? NSAA?
  13. Was in Kilgore last Tuesday eating dinner at Jack Ryans. Parked next to a brand new GT2 RS. Not every day in small town East Texas do you park next to a $300,000+ Porsche.
  14. that's a whole lot of cartridge. Barnes is the correct bullet setup for the Weatherby. I use .416 Rigby. Have loaded Barnes 300 grains at 2700-2800 fps and it works like a charm on buff.

Mine was a 2007 GT3. Had a couple of those. Loved the platform. Nothing quite like 8400 redline.

Not the money shift. First was a twin turbo. Lost the water pipe(common problem) on a hot summer day, running flat out and as hard as I could against the other guys in my run group. Did not notice water temp gauge, did not notice check engine light, finally started losing power and looked down. Temp gauge pegged, got too hot. Second was the GT3. Also the water pipe. Junction came loose, sprayed coolant over rear tires, lost it in a turn, crashed and totaled. So not technically an engine, but the engine's fault.

I did PCA for many years. Drove GT3's and Turbos for about 10 years. Met some really fun people. The happy hours and dinners were almost as much fun as the driving. I lost a motor at TWS and one at TMS and that took the fun out of driving. When my daughter(no pic) turned 16, she started DEs and campaigned a 3 series BMW until she graduated from college. No telling how many sets of tires and brakes I put on that car. She kept her numbers, racing tires and helmet in the car at all times. She got a lot of street cred in the parking lots.
  18. My first job out of school was in Houston and a commission based job. After working about a year I became the top producer in the company. There were about 25 other salesmen/women at the time. So, I get the bright 23 year old idea to go talk to the owner. My speech was effectively, "I am making it rain, so pay me accordingly." Next day, the owner changed my market area and I no longer made it rain. Kept me like that for a month. Lesson was learned.
  19. Keep 1000 rounds of 9mm and 500 rounds of .45 acp in my truck at all times. Shoot at least 100 rounds per week doing various training exercises. 1000 rounds of .223, mostly Hornady 55 grain soft point. 600 rounds of my own reloads 30-06 in various Africa culling weights. One for deer sized game, one for wilde/zebra, one for eland/hippo/giraffe size. 100 rounds of my own reloads .416 Rigby for ele/buff. 20 boxes of .410 2 1/2 inch, 1/2 ounce for dove/quail 1000 rounds or so of miscellaneous .308, .243, .22 Mag, .38 Special, .357 Mag, .41 Mag, .44 Mag, .45 LC, etc...
  20. Built my ramp under a metal clothes line to get the right angle for my bike to land half way down a hill. Misjudged the launch angle and got 6 stitches in the chin from the clothes line. Parents were at work and my grandmother had to take me to the ER. Fun times.
  21. Assisted opening Benchmade knives for me. The clips are reversible for different pockets, left/right hand.
  22. #2, cheese, mayo and mustard, grilled jalapenos.
  23. For an old, this will take some time.
