  1. I think a lot of it has to do with what we eat here in the U.S. Engineered flour and sugar in everything. I am not an MD, but have my own observations. My grown children are addicted to processed food, fast food, things that are not good for them. They are just like drug addicts. They can't help themselves and don't want to change, no matter the consequence. Every year, I spend about 1 month in Africa doing some work for national parks and game preserves. I typically stay at a nice lodge or someone's farm for the trip. I am thin, in shape and eat like a horse. Typically lose 8 to 10 pounds while there. The flour is ground in the back yard for the breads, puddings and cookies. The sugar cane is harvested nearby. The milk and butter are from the cows on the farm. The preserves are made in camp, and all of the meat was killed that day or the day before. Ate eggs, toast, potatoes for breakfast, some sort of lasagna like meal with bread for lunch, and some grilled meat, potatoes, bread and cake/pie/pudding for dessert for dinner. No processed foods were consumed during the trip. Some of it can be accounted for being very active and outdoors while there, but unprocessed food has to play a large part. My next door neighbor's son wanted to work in Africa as a summer job. I got him a job for 3 months in the summer at one of the preserves. Typical US kid, freshman in college, over 6' and 40 pounds over weight. When he got home, he looked like a different person. Had lost all of the excess weight. I asked the preserve owner if they did not feed him and their response was they had to increase their harvesting/food planning to account for how much he ate. He did not work that hard. Food had to be important in the weight loss.
  2. 1974 9422M .22 Magnum and 1974 Colt SAA .22 Magnum. I spent all my mowing, hay hauling, sprig digging, corn harvesting money keeping these 2 fed. Very good times and many thousands of rounds fired.
  3. The Range has a few pallets of 9mm. $650 per 1000 and limit of 10 cases per person.
  4. I doubt it. Probably picked it up somewhere as-is. It has period correct proof marks, desirable inspector initials and pretty good timing. 8xxx main frame, 12xxx trigger frame and 11xxx grip frame. Have the Colt letter. It was not from my lineage so I am just a place keeper for someone on my wife's side to step up someday. Someone who will not pawn it. Have not met that relative yet.
  5. 1874 SAA. 4 digit frame. Not factory grips but been on the gun as long as anyone knows. At least 80 years.
  6. My error. I had about 10 thousand rounds on hand when the virus started. I shoot 1-200 rounds a week and try to add to my stash when I can find it. I got a couple thousand rounds from Sig last month. A couple from Federal earlier this fall, a few thousand from MidwayUSA this summer and a thousand or so from The Range before prices got crazy. They are officially crazy now. The Range in Austin has them for 75 cents per round today including tax. They are not making any money at this price. This is up from last month, the month before that, the summer, etc... Components are in very short supply.
  7. I will when I get home. 1874 birth date. Taken apart, barrel cut back and reassembled for Spanish American War. Proper inspector initials, mismatched frames, common for this gun. My wife's great grandfather's carry piece when he was a sheriff in the 1930s. Was just a tool for him. No one in the family knew it was a first year, black powder frame, anything about it until she got it 30 years ago.
  8. ECO was 9mm. A fabulous pistol in the 1911 style. Hammer, grip safety and thumb safety. All have to work in sync. There are great 1911 shooters out there and I really like them. If I were recommending, it would be striker fired. Just easier to learn, run all day and require little maintenance. Glock 19 is my personal favorite and over 90% of the attendees use one when I take a class. 26 is a little easier to conceal as well as 43 and 48. I thought the 365 was super concealable and very accurate. If possible, go to a range that rents many of the different makes and see which works best for you. There are Glock fans, Sig fans, H&K, Walther, S&W, etc... As mentioned above, it is the Indian and not the arrow. Pick a platform, train with it, dry fire with it and practice drawing from concealed 100 times a week until muscle memory.
  9. The change experiment was out of boredom. The 19 and 30S are perfect for me, just wanted to see if the grass was greener on the other side of the fence so to speak. One 19 is Kline Tactical with lightened slide to match weight of RMR, fitted barrel, Taran Tactical trigger, accelerator pads, etc... The other 19 is Boresight Solutions with their own stippled frame, Agency barrel, Arsenal Democracy Switch trigger, lightened slide to match RMR weight, etc.... They run perfectly and are extremely accurate. I just lucked into a pair of 30S years ago that are the most accurate handguns I own and only have trigger work. I carry one of the 19s or 30S every day. I rotate the pairs out between carry, bedside every month or so.
  10. I'm a wheelgun fan. Grew up with, killed deer with and now they reside in the safe. Kept my Python, n-frame Smiths and 1st year, 4 digit SAA.
  11. The shutdown has led me to go down a rabbit hole to try and improve my EDC by measuring time and score on IDPA and CSTAT standard drills. My EDCs are Gen 5 Glock 19s w/RMR and a pair of Glock 30S. Many thousands of rounds thru each and numerous defensive classes and training hours. Since there was very little I could do other than play golf and go to the range, I thought I would try other handguns in search of the holy grail of defensive pistols. Started off 1911. Custom steel Commander. Grip safety issues and pinned it. Shot ragged holes slow fire. At speed, not even close. DW ECO. Very accurate but would miss the grip safety at fast draw from concealed. Pinned the safety but had a couple of hammer bites from poor grip. Par time for me at 5 yards from concealed is around 1 second. 4 shots in two targets in less than 2. Could not match. Very impressed with this gun. Easy to conceal. Next, EDC X9. Nice little pistol. Center of gravity was a little high and hammer bite got me trying to go fast. Next Sig 365. Extremely accurate and easily concealable. The grip angle is off for me and it naturally pointed low. At speed, shots were all over the place. Then on to 365 with RMRSc dot. Super accurate at slow pace. Could not find the dot at speed. Sig VTAC. The Kyle Lamb version. This gun is perfect in every way. Extremely accurate, fantastic sights, soft shooting. Too big to comfortably carry every day and I never cared for the Sig trigger safety system. If I was shooting competitively, this is the gun I would use. Sig 320 Compact .45 acp. Bore axis was too high and never felt right. Moving on. EDC X9 again, this time with suppressor height sights and RMR. Great point of aim, extremely accurate but about 1/2 second slower at every drill. Sold all of these and now content with what I have. I burned a few thousand rounds, lost a few thousand dollars in the resale market, have lots of holsters and burned into my memory to pick a system and stick with it. I did have fun and managed to take up some time during this crazy year.
  12. One of my neighbors got it. Pretty mild symptoms overall but got pneumonia. Took himself to ER/hospital. He got checked out, prescribed medications and sent home to get better. He is almost back to normal after about a week.
  13. It is the culture there. They are very social, have multi-generational housing, attend Mass regularly, and love neighborhood cookouts. By and large, the older population is very unhealthy. All of my employees there have tested positive some time this year. None had anything over a couple days of feeling not so good and all worked from home until they tested negative.
  14. I have the 20 Platinum w/ Eco Boost, 10 speed, 35 gallon tank. I get around 12 mpg in town and 16 on the highway. Made 2 trips to Colorado this year already and a steady 16 mpg. If I drove slower, maybe the mileage would be better. Running 80-85 most of the way and RPM is right around 2100. If I ran around 65, I think the mpg would be closer to 18. My buddy has same ride with V8 and gets a little over 20 on trips to his place in NM. The Eco has much better power in the mountains.

    Getting old sucks

Not a doc, but stayed places and such. Based on my experiences, it could be diverticulitis. Could be gallbladder issues. Hopefully easy enough to diagnose and stabilize.
  16. On Thursday I counted 30+ dps vehicles between Austin and Abilene. All headed towards Austin. I thought there may be a convention. Over 1000 troopers being brought in for the weekend protest + dhs, dea and border patrol.
  17. Just got back from Nashville. Statewide mask rule in public spaces with emphasis on bar districts. Broadway was packed after dark with little or no mask wearing. The Gulch and M Street were crowded with young professionals burning cash at bars/restaurants. Very little mask wearing. Rural Arkansas apparently does not have internet service for keeping up with the news. Not many people wearing at the gas stations or fast food. Ate dinner in East Texas on the return trip. All tables full on a Tuesday night. Servers wore masks but did not see anyone come in with one. Maybe limited internet service there also.
  18. 2020 3.5 Ecoboost here. Averages 15 mpg per 35 gallon tank. On a road trip, avg. gets up to 16.5. I have the 10 speed.
  19. This is the correct answer. Ambien every night since surgery.
  20. 2 weeks ago today I had rotator cuff repair to all four tendons, two of which were complete tears that had retracted across humerus head. First 2.5 days were absolutely miserable. Had the nerve block, lidocaine catheter and oxy. I have had a lot of orthopedic surgeries due to a false sense of ability and never stopping when I should have. Nothing compares to the pain of this surgery. Good news is that after icing with the machine for 60 straight hours, I pulled out the catheter and stopped taking oxy. By the evening of 3rd day, I felt pretty good. I took my arm out of the sling every couple hours and straightened elbow/did hand exercises. I slept in a recliner for 5 nights. By the end of the first week, I was in the sling 50% of the time. This week I stopped sleeping with the sling at night and don't wear it during the day. Only wear the sling when driving and hiking. I am trying to walk at least 5 miles per day. I can 100% complete all of the range of motion exercises allowed. I don't start pt until 3 more weeks. After a very rough start, I am very happy with the progress.
  21. Wrapped up a pretty spectacular couple of weeks of dining out with Barley Swine. 12 course chef's tasting menu. Very good. Some of the starters were not as good as Hestia, but the wagyu ribeye was spectacular. So, my rank: 1.Hestia 2.Tie for Barley Swine/Comedor. Little better food at Barley but better wine selection at Comedor.
  22. Comedor was the destination last night. Great atmosphere, courtyard and plexiglass separations at the bar. The bone marrow tacos are amazing. Very good margaritas and a decent wine list. A good date night spot.

How do you like reverse replacement? my two surgeon consults said I was too young at 58. even though one of my tendons was not fixable they said I will be ok with 3 and have options in the future.
