Surly official camping and backpacking thread
Game plan is to do Lost Mines out and back then start Pinnacles. I guess if the lot is full we can do some of the window trail. I saw the notices on road closures for Chisos Basin Rd, but it looks like that was supposed to be wrapped up end of January so hopefully not an issue end of this month, but I'll keep an eye on it. I tried to snag ER4, but ER4-ER9 are closed due to the falcon mating season during this time so we wont be able to explore as much of the ER Trail as I'd like, but we will hike it as far as we can after setting up camp at ER2 then we can decide if we want to hike South Rim on day 2 and come back with our packs on day 3 on the way to Laguna Meadows or if we want to go Juniper Canyon and save South Rim for Day 3. Being that we are bringing in so much water I tried to plan as much as I could without our packs on I really appreciate the advice keep it coming if y'all think of anything else. I know everyone says 1 gallon of water per day for drinking plus whatever we need for cooking, that would be around 30lbs of water which sounds miserable to carry. I'm thinking since it will be cold out and I typically don't consume that much water to carry closer to 24lbs which will be a little under 3 gallons total. Any thoughts with that game plan?

Surly official camping and backpacking thread
I've got a group of guys (Mid 30s) Heading to Big Bend in the Chisos Mountains. Any of you Surly dudes have experience in the Chisos? Itinerary Day1 Lost Mines - Hike clockwise towards Pinnacles and camp at JF1 Day 2 Emory Peak - Make Camp at East Rim 2 - Day Pack Juniper Canyon Day 3 Hike South Rim make Camp at Laguna Meadows - Day Pack Blue Creek Canyon Day 4 Hike out Laguna Meadows My group is wanting to do 3 nights which I know is a lot for just the Chisos so we have several day hikes we are going to do down Juniper and Blue Creek Trails to add some miles in without the packs. Our packs will have to be heavy due to the amount of water we will need to carry, I've seen conflicting reports on if we will have any water sources at Boon Canyon so I'll keep looking out for reports before we go. Any tips or suggestions are more than welcome. I've done several backpacking trips, but this will be the first time for most of the group.

Sark after dark COACHING STAFF thread
Recruiting has not been our problem ever, if we are developing players then the recruiting will follow even more so. It also seems like we have several really strong recruiters on staff with Banks, Flood, Drayton, Sark, etc.

I hope Texas is not the kind of school coaches learn how to coach new positions

Sark after dark COACHING STAFF thread
I agree with the Ash or Quinn options. Sark hasn't fared well as a head coach as it is, I'm sure he has learned a lot since over the last 5 years, but having an experienced former HC as a DC seems like a better setup for Sark than an up and coming DC.

Was that Malik's problem? Seemed like he was a hard worker, just had T-Rex arms and no true position

I meant right now, but good thing Herman always wins the off season so we all should be happy

2020 Texas Offseason Thread: Herman's Hail Mary
So you're mad at the guy for being arrogant (they mostly all are) and now you're mad at the guy for seeking guidance from a team that went through a complete coaching overhaul and have bounced back with an awesome 3 years. What can Herman do (besides winning) to make you think he is doing the right thing?

Also can't wait to hear the loss of bad weight and gain of good weight in lbs. As much as you can worn us Mitch, I'm excited for the reports and happy to hear the team is looking good from your fictitious report.

2020 Coaching Staff
Brian Davis said on the Horn yesterday that if Ash was the guy it would have already been announced. He also said that Herman might not announce until after the Bowl Game. He also said he has no clue and only Herman knows. The real positive about all this so far is that no one knows anything which shows how better run the AD department is now vs the shit show that was going on trying to hire a baseball coach and Sterlin Gilbert just a few years ago.

Maybe we should try that dead cat method......

11.18.19 Coach Herman press conference (noon)
I think a lot of you will be really disappointed if you're expecting some massive coaching overhaul. I'm guessing some changes with a couple of assistant coaches will happen, but I can't imagine Beck or Orlando being let go. I think Orlando has earned some time to get everything sorted out. Maybe Beck gets axed and Fedora comes on as OC, but I doubt it. I think Herman believes his comment about having a similar season to Baylor and because of that he must think we are close.

- The movie you just watched
How are you guys watching "Your Name" Seems tough to stream, but not very familiar with the tech savvy community- Spring Football starts today
So we've got Cort as our backup Mac LB. Terrifying LB depth chart- Bruce Lee. He was kinda good.
I have a real tough time thinking that Ali would lose to Bruce Lee in any form of fighting.- Dumbass Shit We See On Facebook
I would sell it- Dumbass Shit We See On Facebook
Must be an East Texas thing...I"m going to say that cuisine probably comes from Vidor- 2019 Houston Texans Offseason
I hope the best for Gary, but he is undersized and weak (at least on the bench) compared to other LBs at the combine. He is very fast, but I don't know that he will transition to a 3 down LB in the NFL. Here is his spider graph which shows how he relates to other LBs at the combine https://www.mockdraftable.com/player/gary-johnson (sorry too dumb to just post a pic of it)- 2019 NFL Combine thread: Boyd, Davis, LJH, Omenihu, and Gary Johnson receive invites
It seems like those guys have their hands in pretty narrow for having such long arms. I wonder if that's a requirement for testing on bench, or that's just what they prefer - The movie you just watched
