  1. Eric Becker (UVA transfer SS who is a stud) is on campus today, per Chip Brown
  2. Found the Schloss interview from earlier this week on 1300 The Zone. Said he envisions 4-5 position players and 3-4 arms being brought in depending on how the draft shakes out.
  3. Offense is no bueno. Typing that out made me realize they need to make a strong play to get Harrison and Riojas back. Tough to find proven guys in the SEC and Harrison especially was one of the most consistent pitchers in the league.
  4. This is what we currently got if you include true freshman minus Cunningham and Fien. Also will exclude Galvan, Belyeu and Flores to be somewhat conservative from a numbers standpoint *=freshman C (2): Chamberlain and Courville* INF (6): Borba, Duplantier, Stewart, Livingston, Mendoza, Rodriguez OF (7): Winfield, Williams, Gasparino, Peterson, Monsour*, Hill*, Pack* RHP (19): Riojas, Howard, Grubbs, McCreery, Flores, Moffett, Saunier, Hamilton, Burns, Rerick, Crossland*, Paris*, Cozart*, Rummel*, Boles*, Walls*, Rogers*, Westphal*, Fergason* LHP (7): Bing, Walker, Navarre, Volantis, Harrison, Mitchell*, McKernan* So that is 41 right there. So quite a bit more attrition to come.
  5. I’m normally a believer in some guys take time to develop, but man it’s just hard to unsee what he showed this year especially defensively. I think there is a simple yes/no test being applied to a lot of these guys entering the portal. Are they someone you would reasonably expect to contribute on a team who could make it to Omaha in 2026? If the answer is no or you have to think about it, there should be very little resistance if they want to leave.
  6. Nik Sanders giving up his spot on the baseball team to go be a 6th string RB on the football team is something I'll never understand. I see he played this spring at Grayson junior college and did well (.371 with 12 homers)
  7. Props to him for working his way from walk on to starter, but he was a classic tweener. Probably wouldn’t be good enough to be a regular SEC starter but also brought some tools that could make him a solid 4th or 5th OF. No 20 year old sees themselves that way though.
  8. I don't think there is any chance he is drafted. Very little position versatility, isn't a plus third baseman and the hit tool is still somewhat of a question mark. Southard also threw almost 30 innings in 2022 and teams are more willing to take flyers on pitchers than hitters. You can teach a guy who throws hard with good stuff how to pitch a lot easier than teaching a guy who is questionable hitter how to hit.
  9. Looking through some final stats, I don't think enough appreciation is being given to the fact that Adrian Rodriguez played the second half of the season with basically one hand and only batting left-handed and still hit .313 overall/.333 in SEC play. That is really impressive.
  10. I heard he never really got back to pre-injury form. I think it's possible he ends up reuniting with Pierce at Rice or Woody Williams at UH.
  11. Some portal intel from Pete Nakos. I’m gonna assume our NIL situation is in a good place if these are the names we are linked with. Speaking with sources, Texas is in the mix for multiple big-time college baseball free agents. The Longhorns are in the mix for Virginia transfers Eric Becker (infielder) and Henry Ford(infielder/outfielder). Becker officially entered the portal on Tuesday with a do-not-contact tag, and batted .368 with 74 hits in 201 at-bats in 2025. He hit nine home runs and drove in 52 RBIs, as well. Seton Hall transfer outfielder Aiden Robbins started 46 games this spring, finishing with a .438 batting average to go with 33 RBIs and a .550 on-base percentage. He has emerged as a top portal target for Texas, sources have said. Maryland starting shortstop Chris Hacopian totaled 29 home runs and 103 RBIs in his two seasons at Maryland. He was an All-Big Ten second-team honoree both years. The sophomore is lining up a visit to Austin, per a source. The rising junior has been projected as high as a potential top-10 pick in the 2026 MLB draft.
  12. I think the talk is everyone could be on full scholarship. Yeah, Dre is done. I included him in my count but forgot to list his name.
  13. If you remove the guys already in the portal (5) + Easton Tumis + Belyeu/Galvan/Flores/Schuessler/Spencer/Mercer/Dre, that leaves us with 28 on the current roster. We have an incoming freshman class of 15 if you take out Fien and Cunningham (and Jonah Williams already being here). So we are still going to need quite a bit of attrition, and this is without knowing whether the roster limit stuff with the house settlement that is still pending. Roster could be 34 next year, or could be a bit higher, depending on what the judge rules with grandfathering current players.
  14. Trying to compare the style Augie played to today is pretty useless because this era of baseball is completely different. Different bats, balls, fences have been moved in at the Disch, etc. The 2005 national title team hit 56 homers in 72 games. We had 112 in 60 games last year and 85 in 58 games this year. Hell, the 2011 Omaha team hit 17 home runs the whole damn season after they changed the bats.
  15. Flores isn’t transferring guys. He is just going to take his 200k from whatever MLB team thinks can fix him and move on.
  16. It has seemed to happen in a lot of the big series/games in recent years. LSU, A&M, etc. Opposing fans with premium seats right behind the plate. I’m pretty sure there are season ticket holders who haven’t been to a game in years and just cash in a profit selling on seatgeek. They cracked down on that in football a few years ago and need to do the same for baseball.
  17. Feel like I’m watching a basketball game at Allen Fieldhouse
  18. Can Little Rock let their nuts hang a little? Sac bunting with a 2 run deficit in the 8th and they were also sac bunting in the 4th inning when the score was 5-4.
  19. Tumis, Sam Richardson and Whitehead were removed from the online roster a short time ago.
  20. There were several times in that postgame presser last night where Schloss said we need to upgrade the talent level without actually directly saying the current team wasn't good enough. He referenced it in the question he got asked about HBP (basically said we don't have enough premium fastballs so we have to throw a ton of breaking balls) and again when he made a joke about it seeming like we were holding the bat by the barrel instead of the handle when trying to swing the last few weeks.
  21. Schloss said publicly he wasn’t going to leave his A&M staff out to dry. Not only Earley but also Will Fox (was in an off field role at A&M similar to what Tulo had here in 2023). Both were coming to Texas. So that didn’t really leave a role for Tulo. Once Earley left to go back and took Fox with him, the fit for Tulo became a lot cleaner. Schloss also kicked the tires on getting Tulo on his first A&M staff in the summer of 2021 when Tulo was still the volunteer assistant here. They’ve known each other for a while.
  22. Not specifically Texas related but Pete Nakos of On3 mentioned in an article about Brian O’Connor that Mississippi State is earmarking about $2 million in revenue sharing and an addition $1.5 million in outside NIL for baseball.
  23. It wouldn’t happen unless we struck portal gold or a bunch of arms took a huge leap, but how nice would be if they could move Volantis into a Kevin Kopps type role. Kopps threw 89 innings in 2021 with 11 saves and the game was basically over whether he entered in the 5th inning or the 9th. He was the Swiss Army knife. Bullpens are so fickle in college baseball. Having guys in the backend who can slam the door are a huge luxury.
  24. Yes, in the 2026 class. Not sure if the link is going to the right place but the 2025 class is what is coming in this fall.
  25. For those who want to get familiar with the incoming class https://www.perfectgame.org/college/CollegeCommitments.aspx?college=1829 Cunningham and Fien are gone. Pack, Crossland, Cozart and McKernan will be draft sweats.
