They really want to get Winfield going.
It isn’t applicable today against a righty starter but I’m starting to wonder about Rodriguez against lefties. He is like 2 for 16 against them this season. Maybe he should still be in the lineup regardless but I’m probably not batting him cleanup.
They used to have a couple of legitimate arms back when they were going to Omaha semi-regularly but no HS or portal arm wants to play there anymore with how hitter friendly it is and their pitching coach is apparently a joke. Tadlock won’t get rid of him because he’s too loyal.
Seeing Texas Tech this bad (got smacked by Grand Canyon last night) is both shocking and hilarious. They’ve been on the steady decline for about 4 years now.
Good thing they gave Tadlock a lifetime contract.
I was hoping Santa Clara would burn Bayles when the game was close. He has already been stretched out to like 80 pitches so I’m assuming they will burn him early tomorrow or Sunday if need be.
The line between good and good enough to win a title is razor thin, not mention it also requires some plain old good luck and lucky bounces.
Pierce’s results at Texas would get him a statue at 98% of schools. But it was correctly identified that the trajectory wasn’t right and the move was made before there was a total collapse.
As is the case in most sports, knowing who to hire and retaining them on your staff is half the battle. Pierce couldn’t handle that part. Schloss has proven he can at like 3 different stops and does well at surrounding himself with good cops so he can be the bad cop when needed. Meanwhile, Michael Early is a good cop surrounded by a bunch of good cops and that’s one of the reasons why A&M will have a new coach probably within 2 years.
That decision isn't being based on getting in the tournament or not.
We fired Pierce after 3 of 4 years of a super regional or better. Herman was fired after going 7-3 and winning a bowl game.
Yes, if we make the tournament and then miraculously go to the Sweet 16, maybe he isn't fired, but this stuff always works itself out in the end.
Wasn’t it 2020 when we beat OU on the last second shot from Coleman to keep our tournament hopes alive and laid the biggest egg of all time a few days later against a crappy OSU team at home in a game that would have likely clinched a tournament berth?
I think he finally removed them from his bracket, but Lunardi had 4-12 Oklahoma in the field has recently as a few days ago so I can’t imagine there are many bubble teams supporting resumes that much better than us.
Santa Clara is going to be a solid test this weekend. They have a couple of really good arms, including one guy who has 28 strikeouts in 14 innings so far out of the bullpen.
So we have 6 pitchers on the roster who still haven’t thrown and Howard, Moffett, Saunier and McCreery are unusable.
30 SEC games are going to be interesting.
