  1. Good point. There is something to be said for guys getting acclimated and finding their footing early. It will be interesting to see how we schedule non-conference games moving forward. I bet we still go to Arlington and Houston regularly, but is there a need to test yourself outside of that before you play 30 SEC games? I noticed LSU's non-conference series this year are Northern Illinois (2), Stony Brook (2), VMI (2), Central Arkansas (2), Xavier (3) and North Dakota State (2). Even their trip to Houston is one game against us and then playing Texas State and Louisiana. Lots of stat padding before they head into the real part of their schedule.
  2. Could be starting up to 4 freshmen at some point this weekend (Gasparino, Borba, Sanders, Kennedy). It's funny how last season at the beginning we all talked about how the team was too young and inexperienced, and this year's team is probably significantly younger than last year. Flores, Thomas, Belyeu, Galvan and Duplantier are all sophomores combined with the freshmen mentioned above.
  3. I know. That’s why I said hindsight. Gasparino and Thomas had already been subbed out by the time Powell came up. It’s just more frustrating than anything that something like that happened when a game was out of hand and he was likely about to be replaced anyway.
  4. Hindsight is 20/20, but Powell was hit by that pitch when it was 13-2 in the 6th and we had already begun to empty the bench. That AB probably could have gone to someone else, especially with how wild the HCU staff was.
  5. What I know about Cal Poly Lost 2 of 3 to Missouri at home to open the year. The first two games were super low scoring with the Sunday game a 12-8 loss. Beat North Dakota State on a walk-off last night. Returned 6 of their top 7 hitters from last year off a team that wasn't good Lost their best starter and 3 best relievers off last year's team. Start a lefty on Fridays who is experienced with good strikeout numbers, Saturday guy is a righty struck out 12 last week against Missouri. Sunday starter was hit around (8 hits in 4.2 innings, 4 earned runs). One thing about their staff is they don't walk many guys. Stuff is not great but they aren't going to be beating themselves. Their starting 1B is 6'3 270 and he looks every part of it. Facing another great defensive catcher this weekend (Ryan Stafford). Played for Team USA this past summer. Offensively they are a pretty big step down from San Diego. If we can't get Hurley and Howard through 5 against this lineup I am going to be concerned.
  6. FWIW, On3 has Guidry listed at 6'3 260 and Rink at 6'1.5 260.
  7. Going to pat myself on the back on this one. Now 6-7 in Big 12 play with games against OSU, Iowa State, Houston, Cincy and Texas remaining. 40th in NET and 35th in KenPom. Only 3 Q1 wins. Also played one of the worst non-con schedules in the country (turns out Iowa, Arkansas, USC and Providence are all meh to not good). They probably get in at 8-10 but they have work to do.
  8. Yes, he said Softball is at the same time and they would be showing that live. I thought I heard him say that the baseball game would be live on the ESPN app and then re-broadcasted on LHN later in the evening.
  9. Austin Peay walked 14 batters and hit 3 batters and still beat Mississippi State yesterday, 13-10.
  10. Houston recruiting confidential via The Athletic. Sarkisian, Banks, Flood and Gideon all mentioned.
  11. I admittedly haven’t done much homework on Rink but at first glance he is listed at 6’1 260. Seems like we’ve been pretty lukewarm with our interest for a while and haven’t some 9.95ers been saying Sarkisian wants to get bigger at DT?
  12. AT&T Sportsnet (Astros TV home) showed games last year I believe as well.
  13. Correct, I'm too worried about it right now. Small sample size and all. The emergence of Dee Kennedy might hurt him because that will push Thomas to CF more often, with Gasparino shifting over to RF. This leaves Belyeu mainly only DH opportunities, but obviously they are still tinkering with things.
  14. His inability to pull the trigger at times is perplexing. Really good at working counts and taking walks but sometimes he needs to go up there being the aggressor.
  15. We see you, Cade O’Hara. I’m intrigued.
  16. Belyeu finds himself in more bases loaded situations than anyone I can remember
  17. Our portal game will get better with the SEC move too. I know for a fact we’ve lost out on a few kids who were interested in coming here but wanted to play in the SEC and we couldn’t overcome that.
  18. The 2018 team had no business making it to Omaha with the roster they had. 2021 and 2022 both had rosters good enough to make runs even with whatever holes we had. We had at least 2 good starting pitchers both seasons and that’s all you need in that format with the off days (ask LSU). Obviously we know what happened in 2021 and 2022 just shat the bed.
  19. Jfc that is not funny O’Dowd don’t smile
  20. Definitely ain’t a midweek strike zone tonight
  21. Been a while since we’ve had a freshman arm to get excited about. Tumis has me excited.
  22. Nik Sanders doesn’t get cheated. I like that about him.
  23. 11.7. And every program has holes. Even LSU. We just watch Texas every game and think it’s isolated to us. LSU fans pulled their hair out at their pitching staff every time Skenes wasn’t on the mound last year.
