  1. Looks like I picked a bad week to stop drinking
  2. Wow. That looks kick-ass. How many shots did it take on the Mother in Law?
  3. You’re gonna need a bigger gun
  4. File is the way to go
  5. Tom Hanks in what may really be his best role, Paul Newman (no need to say more) and Daniel Craig. It is really a masterpiece
  6. We are staying at the Westin in Florence in April. Also on the river and a lot less points
  7. Armando al Pantheon, which is on that list, is very good, and has an extensive wine list. Make reservations well ahead of time. Small place, been there for many years. http://www.armandoalpantheon.it If you like craft beer (and good food) try L’Osteria de Berra del Borgo. Really good beer, and extensive menu with non-pizza (and pizza) choices. The meatball appetizer and pasta carbonara were excellent. (And so was the pizza...). http://osteria.birradelborgo.it/
  8. Thanks Have been to Pompeii and Amalfi coast — and I agree they are great. Staying up north this time in Venice, Florence and Milan, along with some time in France
  9. Just booked 3 nights in April at the JW Marriott on the island — anyone stayed there? Also, our first time there, so any good restaurant recommendations?
  10. I’m thinking of starting a gumbo thread
  11. We use Marriott properties as much as possible, both for my business travel and pleasure, and combine it with a Marriott credit card (or better yet the Ritz card, though I think that is limited issue now). In addition to the "stay" points, you get 6 points per dollar spent at Marriott properties. Easy to get elevated status that way, which generates higher point credits on the stay itself. They also have properties everywhere. We've been Platinum elite for several years. I will say their program has been a little "tighter" the past couple of years. That said, we did points stays at Rancho Mirage RItz and Waikiki Ritz in 2019 year, and have already booked points stays in Florence (Westin) and Venice (JW) for April. Still have points left.
  12. IN an ironic twist, Rocco Pendola returns to take his spot
  13. The Grand looked awesome. This one was quite a bit less expensive.
  14. French 75 INGREDIENTS 2 ounces London dry gin ¾ ounce fresh lemon juice ¾ ounce simple syrup 2 ounces Champagne, preferably rose Long spiral lemon twist (for serving RECIPE PREPARATION Combine gin, lemon juice, and simple syrup in a cocktail shaker. Fill shaker with ice, cover, and shake vigorously until outside of shaker is very cold, about 20 seconds. Strain cocktail through a Hawthorne strainer or a slotted spoon into a large flute. Top with Champagne; garnish with lemon twist.
  15. I go back abandoned forth between Traeger pellets and B & B pellets — both work fine. B & B pellets are cheaper. Live in Austin and have never had an issue with the pellets swelling, but obviously not as humid as SETX
  16. It can help to call. Last year, my wife and I both finally did Global Entry (and yes, it makes a difference based on comparing getting through before we had it and after). After my interview, got my approval e-mail almost immediately. My wife’s didn’t come through, and we were butting up against the time we were leaving. Took a couple of calls, but we figured out that the officer had failed to hit the “approve” tab (or whatever it is) after the interview. They had us call the field office, talked with him, and he fixed it immediately. I know you are in a different stage, but the point is there is the potential for human error in this process that calling may help overcome.
  17. Or do what we did in April, and stay 2 blocks away at the Marriott Anthology COllection Palazzo Naiadi. Very nice, and save:
  18. It was a sh**** late, out of bounds hit as he was already going down. Wasn’t Brewer’s fault at any level.
  19. Agree on service — Twin does a good job. Also agree they should stick to the small to mid-size store model. And also agree TW will suck a lot of business from the Spec’s
  20. That many “misses” is odd. I’ve seen people go to the ticket counter and get it added. I’ve also just called the airline when it happened to me once and they added. As for ABI, we joined Clear a while back. Sometimes doesn’t save much time, but sometimes it does even with TSA when the TSA line is backed up. It would certainly help in the instances you are discussing.
