    The Wire

It is great, but the best part of their relationship is the hospital towards the end of Season 1. He fucking hates McNulty but he knows he's a good cop who cares. He doesn't want him to fall apart and lose who he is. Just that bit of grace adds so much to the relationship.
  2. I was always a big fan of NARC. He was great in that.
  3. Is this the star maker for Glen Powell I expect it to be?
  4. GA. First time so want the lay of the land before going VIP. I’ll take you up on that beer if we meet up.
  5. When people don't actually have an answer or reasonable argument, they will move to complaining about process and decorum to deflect. That's all this bullshit is.
  6. All of a sudden getting pounded in Highland Park West. Rain coming in horizontal.
  7. Listened this earlier today too. At about 1992, I knew they were running out of real estate.
  8. Holy shit, they brought Kittridge back. That's awesome. I am a Vanessa Kirby enthusiast, so good to see her back as well.
  9. I was under the impression that Cecile, Kate and Aidy were going to leave last year but took their COVID extra year. I haven’t heard anything on Cecily leaving, but it wouldn’t surprise meS. I like all of them but am ready to see them move on. I hope they don’t try to bring on more cast. It’s a pretty full list as it is and Heidi, Ego, Chloe and Sarah Sherman should be able to carry the female side of the show. The mens side is pretty stacked right now too.

    What a wild morning.
  11. We got a good hour of rain in Highland Park West.
  12. I remembered the broad strokes, so I thumbed back through the book. She had a kid as a teenager and married the father. They were on the outs when she came down to film, so she was in a very different place than the rest of the cast. She apparently was flirtatious with a lot of the guys (particularly Hauser) but had her eye on Jason London, who was with Chrisse Harnos (Kaye) during filming. All of the female cast auditioned for Jodi, but got lesser parts. According to Burke, the other girls, particularly Joey Lauren Adams and Parker Posey were all very bitchy to her because she got the lead. The Shavonne/Simone/Darla car scene was written by Posey and JLA ("that bitch, I'm going to kick her ass...I'm not mad"). Per Burke, that scene was them bitching about her. For JLA and Posey's part, they don't remember being purposefully mean to her, but their roles in the movie were the mean girls and they admit they may have let it bleed into the offscreen dynamics. Basically, she was in a weird place and may have read too much into the other girl's relationship to her. She just didn't fit in with the rest of the crowd. Anyway, the book is a real fun read.
  13. Sounds like a couple of us will be out in Napa next week. We’re just going Friday and maybe Saturday. Sat and Sun lineups aren’t blowing my skirt up. There’s a group of us and they’re mostly interested in pool parties and wine, as opposed to festivals. Hopefully Friday will scratch my wife and I’s festival itch. If any of you see a 6’5” 40 year old dude with shaggy hair around the Fantastic Negrito, Marcus King, Spoon or CHVRCHES stages, come awkwardly say hi. I would wear my “I’m from the internet shirt” but I don’t think my wife will let me.

    The Wire

I would definitely watch it with a guide of some sort as it is so thick. Alan Sepinwall did a whole episode by episode recap for new watchers (and veterans) a while back. If you just search Alan Sepinwall The Wire it should come up. It has no spoilers, but with all the characters and relationships, I’m sure it’s helpful. Treme was really great too. I think it took off after season one, after they dialed in the Steve Zahn and Michiel Huisman characters. They were pretty bad in season one, IMO.
  15. Read this last year and really enjoyed it. They all had a great time around town during filming (other than Michelle Burke). Jason Lee was dating Marisa Ribisi at the time (I think she was 17 and emancipated), so he was a part of the circus too. Sounds like McConaughey was more of a tour guide and didn't participate much in the craziness with the rest of the cast. Cole Hauser sounds like a maniac.
  16. Hitting Bottle Rock next weekend. Anyone been? Any tips/tricks?
  17. Nice to have a relaxing win. Now need Spurs to drop points on Thursday and we’re into CL.

Jesus Christ, what has gotten into Pickford? He’s been incredible the last few weeks. He just made 3 huge saves in about 10 minutes.
  19. A lot by the looks of it. Hope he finds a way to turn it around. He’s a monster when he’s on
  20. First time at the Moody Amphitheater tomorrow night. What's the play on parking?
  21. We're taking our 5 year old to Haim on Wednesday. She's been to every ACL that's she's been around for and a couple of other kids shows, but I think this is the first ticket I have bought her for a concert. Concerts and festivals were my wife and I's thing before kids, so we're excited to get her started.
  22. Came here to post this. We watched it over a few nights and really enjoyed it. If you're looking for something easy to watch between all of the other stuff coming out this month, it's worth the time.
  23. I'm a little worried about Kante. When some players start downhill, it happens fast and that may be the case for him. He has a ton of miles on those tires with how much he runs and fights. I know Alonso has his defensive issues, but I will miss him when he leaves. He's had some massive goals over the years. Watching the highlights, I had honestly forgotten Mata was still on ManU. I looked and he left Chelsea in Jan 2014. Wild that he's been gone for 8 years.
  24. It’s hilarious that people are reading a thread on a genocide and complaining about how it shows up on their mobile browser. Glad we are keeping everything in perspective….
  25. Watched "The Worst Person in the World" last weekend and really liked it. The main actress (Renate Reinsve) was terrific as was her boyfriend. It takes some turns that are unexpected, but I thought it was very affecting. I found it to be a great representation of someone around 30, just trying to figure shit out. Worth a watch if you're up for something different.
