  1. There’s a Salamander cabinet in there somewhere, waiting to be put together. Now where to move it to while we wait.
  2. I think I have the receiver option figured out after a ton of reading. At least the "how" part. Since we're on a new page, here's the layout diagram for reference. Behind the cabinet I would add a wall plate with banana jacks. I would drill 1 or 2 holes through the bottom 2x4 into the joist space. Then I'll add similar plates (less connections) behind the couch on the left, and back/right corner behind the primary couch. The runs themselves would be from the receiver to the plate, then from the plate down, to the left about 10ft to where I have joist access in the basement. Then 15ft towards the bottom, along the joist to the bottom right corner area where I already have a defunct phone drop with a blank plate over it already. That would allow for 2 back speakers and one right surround. The run to the plate behind the left couch would be about half that run. Later on if I want to add more, I can run additional cables to additional jacks. Now, I've figured the longest run (plate to plate distance only) to be about 43ft. Add another 10ft onto that for total longest run (back left speaker), and that's a hefty bit of ground to go what would be 1/4 that distance direct. With that being the case, I'll be using 14/4 CL-3 wire for those runs, and twisting the 2 pairs together. Same amount of cable in terms of total feet, but the wire is a little less than 12/2, and wiring together should yield a lower resistance than a 12/2 on its own. The other option would be to find some type of raceway, or 3/4" conduit. With them adding another 3/4" of sub-floor on top of the existing sub-floor (for height matching, and leveling), I could run the conduit first, and let them add the sub-floor around that. Wouldn't make a ton of sense for the run behind the couch, but would work for the longer runs. Then again, that may piss off the installers with now having to make cuts for that. Guess I could always use a router to make out a groove for a track, once the sub-floor is down to help them out with that. A little leveling compound across the top to even out any gaps around the track and work out any height issue. Second option would make for shorter runs, but may be more hassle than it's worth. Of course I still have to decide between doing that and just throwing a soundbar setup at it. The replacement lot of flooring shows up next week on Tuesday, and install wouldn't start until at least next week Thursday. Since I haven't been contacted yet for the install date, it most likely will be later. So a week to 10 days at least to get it settled. If not, then it would be under and around with longer runs if I ended up going that route.
  3. I remember having to save up for The Legend of Zelda. $49.99+ tax was a lot for a kid back then. Now that I think about it, it may have been $59.99. Been a while since that purchase.
  4. So I’m having a small realization, an epiphany, if you will. I have my subfloor exposed right now, and with additional osb going over it to raise it even with the rest. I may be able make a track or some sort to the couple of spots I can’t easily get cables to. Have to think it through, but might be an option.
  5. I have a samsung sb/sub in my office too. Works just fine for my needs and what it is/does.
  6. Where is it located? I have an older Vizio bar/sub setup in my bedroom and it does fine for that. The Q60 I have in my living room (that I'm upgrading) would also be fine. That is probably where I move my TV/soundbar from the LR, and move the BR setup to the spare room. For a budget type pick, I'd look at any of these: - Samsung HW-B650 - Samsung Q60C - Vizio 2.1 - Vizio 5.1 Not going to break the bank, and dialog will be fine (not an 11, but respectable at least). You won't rumble the house, but that's not what you seem to be after.
  7. They’re two separate systems, so not really. Not saying it’s impossible, but really not worth the effort to tear up a soundbar. A decent soundbar will run you as much or more than a decent center. Just get a new center. https://www.svsound.com/products/prime-center or https://www.klipsch.com/products/rp-404c-ii-center-channel-speaker Those two are good and won’t break the bank. What’s available from your speaker brand? That may be a better fit too.
  8. True enough. Absolutely agree with Scottie’s decision to finish 15. Even a 5-shot lead can go up in smoke when you have all night to think about your bad luck.
  9. Why do you play the second shot under that, and pick-up on the fringe? Kinda dumb.
  10. Damn. Hella save for Scottie on 15 there. I think he/Tom were right. Had to be mud or shit on the ball. The mechanic analysis of his shot was just fine. That's golf. Kinda wild that Cantlay is going to finish and play through the group ahead. Guess he's tired of being in SC and ready to head home. Can't really blame him.
  11. Everybody else is balking at things slowing down and being soft. Scottie just drops another to add to his margin. Insane watching this overall.
  12. Birthday, ok. General sleepover? Oh hell no.
  13. Sounds like those weekends need: tee times, fishing poles, or another convenient excuse.
  14. Thanks. It's been a longer than should have been project, and still a few weeks to go. This is semi last minute in terms of the big picture. At least I have some good options. Really helps when you just need pretty good, and not searching for perfection.
  15. Thanks Imma, jimmy, for your offers. I'm not local, so probably not going to work for me. Somebody won't pass it up though. SVS has a wireless adapter that is well reviewed, which is a start. A decent pair of powered speakers, or a small amp and passive ones, could potentially work. I'll most likely end up in the soundbar realm for now, but maybe not if I can find a decent receiver.
  16. Jesus. They’re just rolling over and handing it to Scottie at this point.
  17. Exactly. It's $4k. While damn good, that's really more than what I want to spend on this. And I honestly don't see the value in the price difference for what I'm after. This is my "temporary" media room, until I build and move in a few years. At that point, I'll be running speaker and cat6 wire everywhere, and will have budgeted for a bigger/better setup. This setup will probably end up in my bedroom at that point.
  18. So I'm in the middle of remodeling my living room. I'm down to working out the audio, and trying to figure out how to best accomplish what I'm after. Not going for perfect, just need something nice enough. For a quick overview, I'm going from a 75" Samsung with a Q60T soundbar/"sub"/(2)surround, to a 120" projector with something new for the audio. Looking in the $2k-ish range, overall. The bar I have now sounds alright, but the bass is lacking and you can tell it's a $400 soundbar vice more of a flagship-level model. So again, looking for something nice, but not audiophile-level scrutiny. Here's the layout, for reference: Options so far: 1) Nakamichi Shockwafe 9.2.4 Ultra EARC (Bar/(2)10" Subs/(2)Surround/(2)Rear) 2) Samsung Q990C (Bar/Sub/(2)Surrounds) 3) Klipsch Flexus Core 200 (With added sub/(2)surround) Then I got to thinking that maybe I could pull off an a/v receiver setup instead of a soundbar. Which is where I start to glaze over a bit, just from all the options available and not really knowing what is and isn't worth a shit. Video processing isn't really a needed thing, plenty of inputs on the projector. It might be useful down the road. This would increase the cost a bit, but I could also piecemeal the pieces together while using some stuff I have on-hand in the interim. (I have a good klipsch sub, and (4) so-so surrounds, and a meh center.) I could start out with a good center, maybe a pair of floors for front left/right. Then use the sub and 2 surrounds I already have to start. Now in the image, the only issue I have is how I would do the rear pair. I'm not keen on running wires, and doing something "permanent" like that. Surely there would be a way to run a wireless transmitter for those? I think my end goal would be a floor speaker on the left and right of the screen, up-firing speaker on top of each floor, a center channel, sub (maybe 2), then a pair of surround, and a pair of rears. Klipsch seems to have a good offering, and a good place to start. However, if using a transmitter isn't an option (and some type of amp for each speaker, I'm assuming) then I'll just go soundbar and work with that one way or another. So I guess the tl;dr of it all is this: Is there a way to have wireless rear speakers (up to 4) with an a/v receiver setup?
  19. That’s how you breeze by folks. Keep your cool, relax, and don’t let the squares show up.
  20. Scottie/Ludvig pairing tomorrow would be fun as hell.
  21. Those guys just love leaving the door open for Scottie. He’s just walking up to, and past, the rest of them while they wave and smile, all content to be allowed to exist in Scotties world. Tomorrow looks to be fun.
