  1. Happened to my neighbor (not in Nashville)
  2. https://www.listeningroomcafe.com/ This is all singer songwriters. Food is fine but the artists are incredible
  3. Bastion. Chef is a James Beard finalist Big bar is a ton of fun, and the restaurant offers a top notch tasting menu. We’ve done both twice and had a great time https://www.bastionnashville.com/
  4. Going VIP with some buddies to Burial Burnpile this weekend. Lineup looks pretty choice https://burnpileavl.com/participating-breweries/
  5. How do you feel about the capacity of the Euro-friendly carry on vs the US size? I usually only fly US carriers internationally but will be traveling more in Europe over the next few years and would like to not worry about having to check
  6. OMB is down in Lower South End (LoSo), and is excellent if you like German beer. Angeline’s is pretty solid, and upstairs at the Kimpton is Merchant and Trade rooftop cocktail bar. I have other Uptown restaurant recs if you’re interested Closer to Uptown, I’d recommend heading to either north to NoDa or south to South End. In NoDa, I recommend Heist, Salud (USA Today Best Beer Bar in America several years running, and James Beard nominated), and Divine Barrel. In nearby Plaza Midwood are Burial and Resident Culture. Optimist Hall is also close and has Fonta Flora brewery + a massive food hall. Botiwalla is from a Beard winning chef and not to be missed if you like Indian street food Resident Culture also has a South End location with tacos by a couple from Austin, and Hopfly on Mint Street is also outstanding (great food truck Katsu Kart) West of the city is the US National Whitewater Center, with loads of options for kids and adults. SUPs, kayaks, rock climbing, ropes courses, local beer, good food, and live music Any other specific things you’ve looked into?
  7. I have my eye on this: https://solgaard.co/products/carry-on-closet Trying to figure out how to not check a bag, carry a garment bag for a couple suits, and also have a laptop bag
  8. My “Welcome to the ACC, SMU! CJK5H” didn’t make it on air, but that’s OK. Go Heels!
  9. The Hammwolds are loading up the Wagon Queen Family RV rental and heading to your beautiful state to watch the 2024 Total Solar Eclipse. We will be traveling in from North Carolina, through Tennessee and Arkansas, before arriving in the Great State of Texas, and returning through Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, and Lesser Carolina. Your expert advice would be greatly appreciated as we plan out our route Austin will be our destination for a few days immediately after the eclipse, but we’re planning on being a little closer to the center path of totality for the big show We’ve considered Waco, but I’m interested in hearing thoughts about another city or town North of Austin Here’s the path: After all y’all help us decide where to watch the actual eclipse, I’ll need answers to simple questions like best barbecue, best tacos, and best brewery along the way and in Austin Thank you in advance
  10. I haven’t lived there for over a decade, but that’s near my hometown Kure is at the south end of “Pleasure Island” (dumb name) The Northern side of the Island (as you cross Snows Cut bridge) is Carolina Beach, which is rougher around the edges but has some nice beaches and more of the usual amenities like grocery stores, the ABC store, and the Boardwalk. The marina is there if you’re interested in deep sea fishing or evening river cruises (Cape Fear river runs on the backside of the island) Most bars are on this side of the island. The Fat Pelican is unique to say the least and has a huge selection of beer in the walk in refrigerated trailer. If you have a capable 4WD (not AWD), you can buy a permit to drive out on the North End. If you like seafood, in descending order of how casual: 1) Michael’s is a long standing favorite for locals. 2) Cape Fear Boil Company is new but comes highly recommended 3) Shuckin Shack has been around for a long time and is great for bar vibes + seafood 4) Hang Ten is another good option for casual Other popular spots: Flaming Amy’s Burritos (but that may piss you off as a Texan), Island Bagels, and Island Burgers & Bites I would avoid Buzz’s Roost and Pleasure Island Tavern. I won’t go into specifics, but I’m not a fan of the owner In the middle of the Island (Wilmington Beach), you will find Ocean Grill and Tiki Bar. Solid food, but even better to head out to the tiki bar for live music and drinks. It gets packed but is worth the crowd for the music and scenery. Kure is much more residential and family oriented. There is a fishing pier with several restaurants nearby. I’d highly recommend Ocean View for breakfast/brunch, and Freddie’s for dinner At the far south end of the island is Ft Fisher. There’s a Civil War museum that is set to be demolished and replaced, so this may be your last chance to see it in current form, and the NC Aquarium At the south end, you can also catch a ferry to Southport, NC, which is a charming beach town If you get sick of the island, Wrightsville Beach is much more upscale, and Downtown Wilmington is packed with awesome restaurants and breweries, as well as a ton of history Let me know if you have any specific questions, I’ll do my best to answer
  11. Wednesday, not Thursday They had a sign on their door that said back on April 12th. It was April 12th
  12. Basto’s was supposed to be open yesterday but they just weren’t. We rolled up for dinner and we’re left out in the dust Oh well, we ended up going around the corner to Limon and HFS!! Go there. Order the ribeye, the pork chop, and the lobster Sergio. Among the best of each beef, pig, and shellfish I’ve ever had
  13. Thanks for the recommendation, @midtown ordered some a week ago—this one is a keeper
  14. Never been to Lenoir, but I am a North Carolinian and have been to a couple Vivian Howard restaurants Eastern NC cuisine is actually quite different from Lowcountry cuisine, but Chef and The Farmer in Kinston, NC was excellent ~8 years ago. If they have the peanut risotto or any kind of field peas on the menu at Lenoir, you should order it. Also, Tom Thumb or any manner of air-dried sausages are a delicacy
  15. I am heading to Bucharest in a couple months. Not my first time in Romania (was in Cluj last summer), so I kinda know what to expect, but any recs would be appreciated
  16. CEO shouldn’t be far behind. Very often, it’s tech leaders advocating to spend on modernization, but it often falls on deaf business ears
  17. I’m in the city right now and just heard Billy has postponed until June
