Interesting - so if he was 17 or 18 in 1943 when he perpetrated the crimes, then he was 7 or 8 when Hitler rose to power. The article states that he would be tried as a juvenile due to his age at the time. So this guy knew nothing but Hitler during his childhood and adolescence. I wonder if his parents were Nazis? One of my fears about MAGA is how parents are poisoning their children’s minds. My childhood babysitter was Walter Cronkite; sadly a whole generation of toddlers had one of Rupert’s talking heads programming them during the pre-supper hour.
  5. Charlie’s kids and mine were in school together in SA. Never got to hang out with him or Emily but my ex tried to invade their circle. Same with Thomas Gibson. Just broke the news to my daughter. Charlie (Gus) was a few years younger but they might still be in touch.
  6. My kid lived and served with polish soldiers for 6 months starting the week of the invasion. He says they are salty as hell. He also made it home today from somewhere in the ME “120 degrees, sandy, and windy.”
  7. Congrats.
  8. Omfg. Rotflmfao. Strays, rented it. My stomach hurts I laughed so hard. Talking dogs Will Ferrell and Jamie Foxx on a quest to bite an asshole dog owner’s (Will Forte) dick off. If you thought sausage party or anchorman was funny you'll love it.
  9. Deployment advance scouting trip. All I know is he just departed Dubai and that's all I am allowed to know. My life is boring.
  10. The phrase "when the camel falls to its knees, the daggers come out" is not a common or widely recognized idiom or proverb in English, at least as of my last training data in September 2021. However, the imagery suggests vulnerability and opportunism. It could mean that when someone (or something) shows weakness or vulnerability, others may take advantage of the situation, often in a harmful or negative manner. Always consider the context in which a phrase is used, as it could have a specific meaning or interpretation in that situation. If this phrase has gained popularity or a specific cultural context after 2021, I would not be aware of it.
  11. These brain surgeons in Houston are unreal. Toomah? No sweat. We do these all day long. It's nice to have McGovern professors doing the cutting. Same guy is on the Texans sideline making concussion decisions.
  12. Monthly? Seems about right.
  13. ^ Knows his shit.
  14. We eat quite a bit of Rabideaux sausage from Iowa, Louisiana. Who knows what they put in it, but it's by far the best for Gumbo. My MIL with the brain cysts is a Boudreaux.
  15. That is interesting. And now I'm ashamed for being Islamophobic.
  16. A few nights ago, the doctors told my mother-in-law that she had a stroke. These two residents looked at her and with 100% certainty said yes you’ve had a stroke. The next morning, the neurologist took a look at her MRI, and said no you didn’t have a stroke, you have four masses (cysts) on your brain. I should have known that something was up when the overnight charge nurse gave a side-eyed glance at the two fledgling doctors (residents) and said I haven’t seen those two here before. So, we are off to Memorial Hermann and their fine neurosurgeons. This morning, another doctor told her that the cause of her cysts is pork in her diet. That, in order to prevent future problems, she should stop eating pork. And that doctor’s last name is Mohammed. Begs the question - cancer? Pork. COPD? Pork. Hangnail? Pork.
  17. Look closer. It says Texas. They just jumped the gun. And they did get the memo, it’s been removed.
  18. Thanks for that. The fact that this wasn’t a political issue makes me thinks the agency asked for the legislation, because it removes a lot of the decision making and puts it on the courts. What do you think?
  19. Accord is the best car I’ve ever had. If Honda made a full size truck I’d buy it.
  20. Call Fondren Orthopedic.
  21. I’d ask him how much for 50 lbs of fresh dead shrimp.
  22. I agree with your first point. Unsure about the anonymous reporting, I’ll try to find out more. I think it is to cut down on CPS being the go-to number to call during custody disputes. The calls rack up when it’s time for parents to legally hand over their kids and they don’t want to do they try to use the state as interference. I tell my wife this legislation is a good thing, the first time they get blamed for a child death they can wave this paper around and say “not on us, parent was non-compliant, talk to the judge or your legislator.” My guess is that public defender’s budgets will get emptied and the courts clogged up, but CPS will be less involved in “social work” stuff. It absolves the agency, IMO. To your point about parents being railroaded - it’s interesting because I don’t get to see that side, but I do not doubt it happens. I only get the amateur bystander’s look at the worst of the worst cases. I do believe that this will increase the number of child deaths, though.
