  1. "Hey, JimBob. Wade out there and get them decoys."
  2. Saw it last night. Whole family enjoyed it. Teenage kids talked about it for an hour afterward--where they guessed right/where the guessed wrong. For the money I spent, good time and the rare film that everyone liked. And yes, Ana is a cutie.
  3. looks excellent. and I dig the platter.
  4. Just slid my turkey in to the Big Easy oilers fryer basket. Should be done at 12:15 p.m.
  5. Yep, that is the size of mine. Cut out the backbone then split the bird in half at the keel. It is much easier to move around on the grill this way. You are probably maxed out at around a 15 pound bird. Lay some fresh rosemarry on the grill and then baste with a good sop. Watch for hot spots. It will come out great.
  6. However you say it. Wasn't going to google proper spelling.
  7. I agree with this. I sprotch one almost every year cooked over coals on a Webber kettle in addition to one I fry or cook in a Big Easy. If you sprotch it, then it is a bitch to flip/turn/move on the grill, and you will end up quartering it anyway. Split it and hit it.
  8. The original Julio's chips were bought out of his garage in white 5-gallon buckets. The restaurant came along much much later.
  9. Partook first the first time last night. Excellent addition to this thread.
  10. Thanks for tracking down that recipe. If you have never made it, you should. It is a great all-around side. Good for summer BBQs and church potlucks. It is damn good. Now that I think about it, it could be a main course if you were so inclined. I always double it and make a second pan to freeze. It reheats great.
  11. El Paraiso in Zapata. Chicken Fried Steak covered in gravy and cheese. Served with refrieds, an enchilada, a taco and a piece of white bread. A cold Budweiser to drink. Has been the conclusion of many a good day on Falcon. In Del Rio, I like Don Marcelenos. I always get the steak tapiquena. The pericos nachos are good as well. Also in Del Rio, Blue Oasis on the edge of town. Has a great burger.
  12. There was a Z-tejas tamale dressing recipe that was shared on ShaggyBevo that was truly fantastic. Someone dig that one up please.
  13. Semi-insider saying that an agent paid for his family's tickets to the Rose Bowl. No idea on veracity.
  14. My experience has been that hens lay far fewer eggs when the days get shorter and the weather turns colder. YRMV
  15. I heard he is relocating Stellas to the Brazilian steakhouse building down near Double Daves close to 82nd and Frankford.
  16. I almost put Orlandos on my list... I like it fine but seldom eat there unless my youngest daughter who really likes it demands we go. The truth is that I am just not big on Italian so I am not sure I would know good from mediocre. What I have had there is fine--and they have a cheeseburger that is actually pretty dang good. In fact, I think some mags had it rated as one of the best in Texas at one time. Just looked and yep: https://www.southernliving.com/travel/texas/orlandos-italian-restaurant
  17. Cast Iron Grill has a good lunch and decent chicken fried. Had a CFS at Caprock a few weeks ago, and I thought it was pretty good as well.
  18. Huge Anderson Bean fan as well. I own lots of brands of boots and even a pair of custom mades, and none are as comfortable as the Anderson Beans. I have put a ton of miles on them, and they are holding up fine. Will need new soles in a year or so I suspect. Wearing some Tony Lama's right now that were twice the money and not near as comfortable. In fact, I might kick the Tony's off under my desk for a bit.
  19. I bet that oilee preferred the prison he ended up in to Pecos.
  20. Not well.
  21. West Table probably the best in town --sometimes difficult to get in. There is an attached brewpub that is decent. You can sit in the brewpup and order West Table apps if you want. Double Nickel steak house is good. Classic feel. Las Brisas on the southside of town is generally good. Steaks, seafood and some fusion Mexican. The location is fairly nice. I like to sit on the patio--you get there through the bar. Cocina Del Serena is one of my new favorites. Kinda a mix between Mexican and tapas. I had smoked quail enchiladas there a few months ago. Excellent. Evie Mae's and the Shack are both good for Q. Line is less long at The Shack. The Shack is also a decent place to drink beer on a Friday afternoon (if it is open). Stellas is decent Italian, steak, seafood. Wish it weren't on 50th street. The Crafthouse Gastropub is good and has good beers on tap. Down by campus for cheap, greasy eats, Spanky's is great. Get the fried cheese. More college crowd places are: Chimy's and Crickets. Crickets gets too smokey. Bier Haus is ok. Newish brewpub Two Doc's. Kinda neat location. Usually food trucks there. None of the Mexican places in town are remarkable. Montelangos probably the best but a little divey. I'm glad to answer any other Lubbock questions. Been here too long.
  22. Does anyone actually think that douche is funny? I’d like to see the market research that suggested giving him airtime was a good idea.
  23. Thanks everyone. Great insight. I truly appreciate it. Now you all have me thinking that I might go along as well.
  24. Ellis Island breakfast is dang good. Cabbie told me the BBQ is good there, but I have never had it. There is a lounge in there with a super fun Elvis impersonator in the afternoons. Cheap, good beer, fewer douchebags = good place to kill an hour or two. Also, some Shaggy member turned me on to Tuscany Suites a few years ago. Neat place with huge rooms and a quality small casino. The craft pub there (Pub 365) is pretty good and has great specials when the Golden Knights are playing.
