I spent almost 2 months in Europe this summer. Went to Sweden after the Camino and did a small part of the Kungsleden; Jackviik to Hemavan. It was a cool experience as well.- Surly official camping and backpacking thread
Did the Portuguese in 23 from Lisbon. It was super easy, pretty flat most of the way. If I was doing it again I would just do it from Porto. The stretch from Lisbon to Porto I didn't care for that much. The Norte was more than I expected. Lots of hills/mountains. Hiking poles would've been a good addition for me. I actually only did the Norte from Irun to Quijon, maybe 60% of the route. The beaches were really beautiful with Playa del Silencio and Playa de las Catedrales being fantastic. Playa Catedrales next to Ribadeo was really cool. Also had a good time in San Vicente de la Barquera. Ate at a really good restaurant there where I met and hung out with a German couple. They lived there and took me to a cool outdoor bar where some local guy was playing music. This time around I did walk the Finisterre and took the bus to Muxia because I was hungover. It was nice to do and mark off the list. Also in 23 I hiked with 2 European friends I had met hiking the PCT the year before. This time it was just me. I enjoyed the challenge of being solo. Still met and hiked with lots of people along the way. You meet a lot of people out there that have done several Caminos. Met an 83 year old Austrian that was on his 11th and did his first at 66. Agree with all that you said. But I can’t help myself and am going to purchase a few shares with money I can lose. So I expect the dividend to be cut and the stock price to crater all within 6 months.- Time for another ‘my dog is awesome’ thread
I remember a guy that used to go to Zilker with his dog that did that. He was probably 50+ year old with dyed black hair and rode like an older Kawasaki or Honda.- Surly official camping and backpacking thread
We had just a 22km hike today so we’ve been done since 2pm. Sitting in the albergue (hostel) now roasting my nuts. I know you’re coming with a group but you can hike these solo as well. I just showed up and fell in with some people quickly. Probably 10% of the hikers are American with the majority Europeans. Also getting to practice my Spanish, which sucks but is alright for an old white guy. I enjoy talking and getting to know the people along the way. Have had zero bad experiences so far and a couple of really cool ones. You can do these Caminos however you want; 10km a day, 40km a day, have your packs transported between stops, etc. i hope you do it and think it would be a great experience for y’all.- xTx Trail
I would say the vast majority aren’t religious but I haven’t asked. This is my second one. You meet people that have done several.- Surly official camping and backpacking thread
Been doing the Camino Norte for a couple of weeks. Lots of mountains and beautiful beaches. More in the groove now than I was when I started. Festival of San Fermin was going on for a bit. Was kind of cool walking into cafes in the morning and a bunch of folks in there watching on the tv.- xTx Trail
I can post in the camping thread. If y’all are looking to do a Camino I think Portuguese from Porto would be good one to start. You do one of these and sometimes you want to do more.- xTx Trail
I’m doing it now on the Camino Norte. But the drivers and traffic are significantly better in Europe. This idea has a bit of Death Race 2000 to it.- xTx Trail
I saw this and not really sure what to think of it. How will they handle getting permission on all the private land? Also think going through the high traffic areas surrounding Houston and Austin could be really crazy. i am a hiker so I will be following this somewhat.- Elon Musk: Nazi traitor piece of shit [Confirmed]

I just left the San Marcos protest. I think it was easily 2,000 plus. Really solid for the area. - Tell Me About Texas a&m
