  1. He gonna be repossessing a lot of furniture soon.
  2. Tonight is The Macks at Mississippi Studios (PDX) tomorrow night is Dope Lemon at The Crystal Ballroom.
  3. The Black Angels and Dandy Warhols absolutely killed it last night. The Dandys were a lot more psych rock than I anticipated much to my delight. I can confirm that Zia is still the best part of their stage show. I was hoping the Black Angels would play more material from Death Song. They spanned their entire catalog - which I liked, but I really wanted to hear Currency and I Would Kill For Her, among others. They played first so they probably had a limited time slot.
  4. This episode makes me cry every time I see it. Those 30 seconds at the end wreck me.
  5. Going to see The Black Angels and the Dandy Warhols Wednesday night. Should be a great show.

  12. I've got a lot of shows this weekend. I'll be seeing a friend's band friday night. Saturday is Ural Thomas and the Pain for the last performance at my favorite venue, The Doug Fir Lounge. The owners are moving to a new space and want to keep the name but it's a travesty. I'm positive that I will shed tears. It's just wrong. Mid-century modern log cabin. I want to live there. Sunday will be The Parson Red Heads Monday is QOTSA w/ Viagra Boys Gonna make liberal use of my flask so I don't go broke.
  13. I use sidedooraccess.com to book musicians. Set up your profile, list your open dates and musicians contact you to book.
  14. This was a passion project for me and was a great success. I have a ton of artists reaching out to me to play on the stage. I'm still trying to build an audience and am only averaging 20-30 people. I'd like to get it up to 50 so the musicians can make some money. With everything getting to be so expensive its driving the artists and musicians further out of town. I'm just doing what I can to help.
  15. So I had the last show of the season Saturday night. Ordinarily, the weather changes in Portland during mid-October from the fire season to the wet season. Well, guess what? It changed on Saturday. We went from 75 and sunny to 50 and rainy just in time for the concert. I put a waterproof shade sail on top of the stage and the patrons in the audience huddled under a pop-up shelter, umbrellas, and a big tree in the backyard. I had 3 amazing artists play and just loved every minute of it. Found out the headliner is the manager at several of my favorite venues in town. Guess who's on the guest list of any show I want to go to. It's me! Hurray! Hannah Glavor Ritchie Young As an added bonus my ex-girlfriend jumped on stage to play with Ritchie - she's the violinist. Echo Onda kicked off the evening
  16. Weird. The images were there and then not. I'll try this again.

    Is Punk Dead?

I skipped to the end of this thread so I might be completely off topic but here are a couple of contemporary punk bands that I've seen that I think are fucking awesome. Wine Lips from Toronto Sgt. Papers - Mexican psych punk band
  18. This is an interesting discussion. On one hand I have a large group of friends that I've known since grade school in The Woodlands. In fact, 8 of them flew out to Portland to visit me last week and go to concerts, play disc golf and 42. We all dressed up as DEVO and went to the Modest Mouse/Pixies concert. As they were all packing up to fly back home it was decided that this is now an annual event with locations to change. Red Rocks, Fillmore, etc. We also meet every year at my friend's ranch in Corrigan for a disc golf tournament. In many ways disc golf and similar music tastes have been the tie that binds us. But they are all in Texas, and I'm in Portland, and I miss them and all of the daily stuff they do. There is a weekly round of DG on Friday mornings that I wish I could join in. There are 20 of us on a group chat in which we share our ups and downs, insult and cheer each other. I love them. Last week I had extra tickets to the Hermosa Gutierrez concert. As I went through my contact list to try and give it away I realized how few friends I have here even though I've been here for 10 years. I've been searching to no avail for some people to play 42 with. I play in dg leagues and tournaments and have superficial connections with the players on my local course but haven't really connected yet. I probably need to try harder. One thing I did this summer is build a stage in my backyard and started hosting concerts. Community building and supporting the artists are my primary intentions. Its slow going but word is starting to spread. I've been volunteering at music festivals and surrounding myself with people that love live music as I do. I'm also one of those extraverted introverts. I like the energy of being around people. I also like watching really shitty sci-fi by myself. Sometimes I get a knot in my throat when I'm around new people. Sometimes I'm the life of the party. I tend to have more adventures than most of the people I come across. I'm a 51 yo that still acts 20 years younger. I'm newly single and am now getting my mojo back and seeing the sparkle in attractive women's eyes. I'm doing what I can to foster new relationships but can never attain what it is I had/have with my lifelong friends in Texas. Social media has helped keep me included but I also don't want to fall victim to the doom scrolling that I catch myself doing. It feels very bipolar but I feel hopeful that better times are ahead. That hope will be enough to keep me going for awhile.
  19. Thank you all for sharing. I've shed a few tears reading these tales of woe but feel like I know and appreciate y'all more.
  20. QOTSA and Viagra Boys here in Portland 10/2
  21. Had a pretty good weekend of music. I got a tip about a block party with Portugal. The Man performing. Great show with only about 300 people in a parking lot. After that show ended I went and saw Hermanos Gutierrez at Revolution Hall. Every dude in that arena got laid. Pure sexy time music and the women in there looked hungry.
