  1. Pretty cool to see Da’Vine Joy Randolph win for best supporting actress. She was just fantastic in that role. I hope she goes onto many leading roles because she is very talented. She was the exact right person to play alongside Giamatti in this movie.
  2. Oh my gosh I hope everyone was able to get off the coast and to some higher ground. Man the waves looked crazy. Again I just hope there is no loss of life.
  3. This was a really cool movie. Just fun from beginning to end. Hope Hollywood can make more movies like this.
  4. My favorite movie I have ever watched. Just a beautiful movie.
  5. It was a good movie. Again this is the exact kind of movie so many of you keep asking for. You want more actual stories and less Marvel. Well here’s one to go watch in a theater.
  6. This is probably as good a place as any to put this. We all know about Chevy’s reputation as being, to be kind, prickly on set. I think he has mellowed out as evidenced by he and his wife sporting empathy shirts together on his Instagram. He also came across totally different in-person when he spoke to us after the film. This, however, probably best explains where that rage he has/had came from. One of the more unlikely stories I can think of, but really interesting to me. To be the grandson of perhaps the most disliked officer in the history of the US Navy is something. https://www.usni.org/magazines/naval-history-magazine/2016/april/out-jaws-victory
  7. That’s human beings being human beings. Almost everything is divisive. In the middle of World War II we had politicians pushing for General MacArthur to run for president and he went along with it for a good while in order to get what he wanted. Even in times of great national crisis we are a divisive people. The only difference between then and now was the lack of places like this due to them being more than half a century away from existing. This place is pretty toxic (You can throw the recruiting board and football board right up near the top on that with the other sections), but we all make a choice to come here. You can either deal with the negativity or push back from time to time on it. Either way enough of us like this place despite the drawbacks or we would not keep returning each day.
  8. There will eventually be a shooting war over Taiwan. This will not go well for China. Taiwan will wind up fully independent. Funny how history just repeats itself over and over and over because of the hubris of despotic idiots.
  9. The next winnable game is January 10th against the currently 4-25 Spurs. They don’t win that and there’s a good shot at another winless month.
  10. Adding Beal was, to be kind, clownish. He is never healthy and putting the weight almost entirely on Durant is not a recipe for success. Booker has no desire to lead that team. The sole reason they were good was when Chris Paul was their leader. Not a fan of his game, but he kept that team together through sheer force of personality. They have none of that leadership now and it shows.
  11. I recommended this movie to a co-worker that has the AMC pass. Honestly I can’t say enough good things about this movie. It really struck a chord with me. It’ll be a movie I watch every single year during the holidays. Most of us would like more movies from Hollywood like this one or Saltburn. Hopefully the message is coming through how good stuff like this is to watch.
  12. I think this story is probably most appropriate for this thread. On Christmas Eve I worked all day and towards the end of the night a family of four comes in. They’re from Texas and live in Desoto. The parents are clearly from the sticks and the mom tells me she went to Emory Rains HS and I am familiar with them. I ask them all for their drinks and the dad wants an Old Fashioned. Mom clearly does not want him to have the drink because his doctor told him he needs to quit drinking recently. In the things your boss would probably tell you to never do I decided to tell them the short version of my aunt’s story. She was a nurse for 33 years. Her boyfriend for the last fifteen years or so of her life was a guy from Stratford and he liked to drink. A LOT. My aunt went down the rabbit hole with him and drank as much as he did. She knew better as a nurse. Her life ended in January of 2021 because her liver gave out. Upon hearing that story the man still wants a drink because he’s in NYC with his family for Christmas. He gets his drink. At the end of the meal he tells me it tasted like medicine and he couldn’t drink it. The wife got what she wanted after all. They were a very pleasant family and I had a great conversation with the wife about Dallas and the years I lived there. They all left in a good mood and dad still tipped well even though he did not get to drink. I hope that he stops drinking and maybe that moment helps him out.
  13. Detroit’s got another game against the Nets. I think this one is their best chance to break the streak for a good while. If they don’t win this one I think this goes to somewhere in the 30’s. The entire team needs to be traded at this point. Blow the entire thing up and start from scratch. Maybe someone will be interested in seeing if Cunningham can be a good 3rd option on a successful team. It would be interesting to see him in Philly, but they have nothing to offer.
  14. Adrian Dunbar and Martin Compston fit together so well. I love that show. I’ll watch Dunbar in just about anything he does.
  15. I didn’t look at the entire list, but stuff like this has the intended effect of getting people to click on the article and then discuss and critique the list for shows that belong/do not belong. Pretty standard stuff. I saw a couple of older shows on there I did not recognize, but maybe they were big for that generation of people who watched them.
  16. I was worried that the newest season of Shetland would not do well because of Douglas Henshall being done with the show. What has transpired has been pretty awesome as temporary DI Tosh (Alison O’Donnell) Detective Sandy Wilson (Shetland Islands native Steven Robertson) and newcomer from the Met, DI Ruth Calder (Ashley Jensen), have made this season just as good as those before it. This show can go on as long as they want it to with this cast. The drama has been just as good, if not better, with having Tosh as the focus of the show.
  17. I have found it harder to focus on things written on really small objects like coins and whatnot. Trying to read the date on a coin now requires plenty of light or using my phone to zoom in to see it.
  18. People riding e-bikes on sidewalks here. Actually I’ll include mopeds as well as that because I have dodged several of these trying to navigate walking here. If you ask me do I feel bad when I hear about accidents involving either of these modes of transportation I can say that I do not. It’s not fun having to make sure you do not get run over while walking on a sidewalk.
  19. Because of what I do for a living I have this conversation regularly. I don’t volunteer information too often as I am fairly private with what I do in life, but invariably conversations about drinking come up. I explained to someone I work with this week how I put down alcohol and why and they talked about how they do not get drunk each day, but they will have a drink. It’s just an ingrained part of restaurant culture to drink. I don’t tell anyone my opinion about drinking. I attempt to show it is possible to do this job without drinking yourself into an early grave and hopefully other folks can see that and perhaps come to the same realization at some point in their journey through life.
  20. Yes the goal is now to spend as little as possible so you can say that you got maximum bang for your buck on WAR. You also want to be able to say that your owner and GM are very shrewd in how they spend money. You definitely don’t want your team to spend freely on players. That’s frowned upon by other fans of the poor teams.
  21. I did not like Jason Momoa’s character in the last F&F movie and I walked out of the last Aquaman after 30 minutes. Cena is whatever to me. Do the family movies and make some money. Seems to be his speed.
  22. I thought it went remarkably well last night. Chevy can still tell some great stories and will zing people. One guy asked a question about how they filmed certain scenes and he says “Well, with a camera!” His wife had to help him remember a few things. I suspect this is due to probably taking some pain meds from that fall he had in Buffalo. Also he’s 80 and the memory has to be jogged sometimes. He moved around well and said the fall happened because there were two levels to the stage in Buffalo and he totally paid no attention to the drop-off. He was also very self-deprecating. Said Three Amigos is his favorite movie he did along with Fletch. His favorite Christmas movie is A Wonderful Life. He even read the rant to us and he got a long ovation for that. So many cool things. Overall it was totally worth it to watch it in a packed theatre with people who came dressed in everything you can think of, including two women wearing Ellen’s blouse. So many Griswold jerseys. Glad I went with the sweater instead!
  23. Good news for @Deej Is that sitting in the 2nd row I’ll be able to get you a good injury report if he falls again.
  24. I am on my way to see our good friend Chevy Chase tonight over in Jersey at the NJPAC for a screening and Q&A. I almost wore a “You Serious Clark?” shirt and this, but I went with the Jelly of the Month Club shirt and the “Bend Over and I’ll Show You” sweater. I think this will be pretty fun!
