  1. I guess this is nominally related to the NBA, but I was watching an NBL game (Aussie pro league) and I see what looks like Shawn Marion there. I google him and find out he’s been a co-owner of the New Zealand breakers since 2018. Kinda cool to see him actually at the games supporting the team.
  2. Since you give it a good recommendation I will look it up and go by there since it’s not far from work or where I live. Hope all is well with you and your family. Be blessed man.
  3. Last year upon meeting @BearSchlong, we discovered we share the same day we left alcohol behind. I am four years out now and I reflect more back at life and what has transpired, especially the last four years. I went to church on Sunday and even though I only understand bits and pieces of the sermon (It is a Brazilian Baptist church and they are all from Rio and São Paulo.) I love going because it is peaceful and I learn more of the Portuguese language each trip. I go there because the woman that kept me alive the last night I drank was my ex-girlfriend’s mother. Talking to her that night kept me from drinking more than I already did, which was a lot as I discovered the next morning. Every year I thank her and can never fully repay her kind act. She has been so helpful and caring the last four years. She could’ve told me to kick rocks when he daughter sent me packing, but she did not and I am very thankful. i do not go to meetings because being autistic I do not enjoy sitting in groups of people. I can work as a server and manage that, but sitting on my own like that is too much. I do know that AA is an incredible resource for those of y’all who go. Thank you also to those of you willing to share your journey here. It helps me better understand people and how life can come tumbling down on us all. The best thing about that is getting the opportunity to get back up and do better each day.
  4. I just saw the film Memory. I think this is a film many of y’all would like. Jessica Chastain is an alcoholic that has been sober for 13 years and she meets a man that changes her life. It’s a complex film, but it is really good. There are some scenes with AA meetings in it and overall this was such a good film to watch. I hope a few of y’all get to see it.
  5. Are they too nice to wear to Jim’s?
  6. Reading about the Ghost Mountain Boys really hit me emotionally. Their will to live was off-the-charts and that they continued to fight while being 30-50 lbs lighter than when they began their journey while also having any of 8-10 different diseases is incredible. I will never do anything in life as heroic or courageous as what these men did.
  7. So much of his public persona was a flat out fabrication, but America needed good news in early 1942. While he was really intelligent I will never get past Buna with him. His clownshow during the Korean War never happens of the truth of what he did at Buna had come to light. That should’ve had him sent stateside and he never should have had any command after. He was Miles Browning with more tact and cache than Browning could’ve ever hoped to have. He played the political games to perfection. If only his ability to command in the field was that good.
  8. This book was a necessary, but hard read. I just cannot fathom the level of suffering inflicted on these soldiers so needlessly by MacArthur and his cabal of yes men. General Harding got completely shafted for taking care of his completely emaciated force. I try to imagine crossing the Owen Stanley range while at the same time being completely unprepared to do so by SWPAC. They even were in Louisiana in training and no one thought it might be good to get some swamp training in just in case they were not sent to Europe. If there is ever one enduring indictment that you can always lay at the feet of MacArthur it is what he did to these men at Buna. Absolutely shameful on his part. Eichelberger was not much better when he relieved Harding, but he at least showed remorse and wasn’t flat out lying in press communiques about what was actually transpiring in the 7th circle of hell in that jungle. Highly suggest reading this book. Heartbreaking read overall.
  9. Watch it. If you do not enjoy this movie I am honestly not sure what to tell you. It’s funny, emotionally raw and you feel good after watching it.
  10. I am really big on shopping, especially grocery stores. Both of these behemoths have good stuff. I have a Costco in my neighborhood, but I can also go get on a NJ Transit bus and be over at Wal-Mart/Sam’s in Secaucus in a relatively short amount of time. I would rather get meat, fish or chicken from Sam’s. They also have some things in there that are brands from Texas which can be cool to see. Really for any of y’all it is just a matter of convenience and personal preferences on what you are looking to buy. The biggest thing I love about Sam’s is I can scan as I go and pay on the app and completely skip having to stand in any line. I just show the digital receipt on my way out. I would definitely steer some of y’all towards Sam’s if time is of the essence. Those are some quick trips in there and that’s pretty awesome considering how backed up Costco can get at the registers. I see people in line at Sam’s and I’m just amazed that more people do not use their app and will instead stand in line to pay.
  11. I’m happy for him and his family. He endured a whole bunch of self-inflicted pain and destruction in his life, but he sought and received help in his battle with alcoholism and has come out the other side a completely different person. I hope he is the head coach for as long as he wants to be. He has everything he needs to be successful and he is one of the brightest offensive minds in the college game. He’s going to win big on the field and it’s cool to see him doing all of this considering where he was just a few short years ago.
  12. I just don’t want to see the video of her crying. Human beings can be absolutely awful and to make her cry because they still hate her deceased husband is appalling. It’s just sports and those “fans” should be ashamed to have been there doing that.
  13. I’m sorry that your father has passed on. There is never a good time for it to happen and you will deal with it in your own way. I have always stuck with the thought that words that we offer in the way of comfort are inadequate. Just deal with your dad’s passing in the exact way you want to. Your situation is unique to you and your family. You have a lifetime of memories with him that I am sure you cherish and come to your mind more often right now. We’re here for you. Get whatever emotions out that you need to and just grieve in whatever way you for however long you want.
  14. I wanted to share this because, well, it’s cool and bittersweet at the same time. I used to post years ago on a football board for high school football. Two of the posters from that board were fans of teams in the same division. They eventually met and married. I would not have known about what has happened to the husband had I not accidentally opened my Facebook (Haven’t used it in almost 7 years, but I didn’t delete it.). The husband is originally from Michigan and I saw a post where he wanted tickets to see the title game because he’s at MD Anderson and has both brain and lung cancer and he’s terminal now. He and his wife were given the money for tickets to the game. The title game will be his final time seeing his Wolverines play. I was happy for him to get to see one last win. Cancer sucks, but it hasn’t taken away his ability to enjoy his family and the sport he loves. I guess I share this because our lives are so short and we do not know when the end will come. Get out and do what you can while you can. Make memories that those you will leave behind one day can remember fondly.
  15. From having seen some of the shows and movies you like I figured that if you saw this you would enjoy it.
  16. If ever there was a player that just got exactly what he deserved it would be this guy. The NBA didn’t have the guts to put him on the shelf for a year, but this does the trick.
  17. Part ways and call it a day. As a player he is just toast out there. He is going to get someone seriously hurt because he does not have complete control of his emotions.
  18. I suppose that it could because there is still an aversion in Hollywood to women that are plus-sized being an A-list lead. There are exceptions, but overall that has been the norm. I will bet that her talent is such that she can help burst through this glass ceiling and usher in some progress on how women are cast. If men who are overweight can garner leading roles so should women, especially really talented ones.
  19. Draymond should’ve been given the rest of the season off with pay. Three weeks is not going to change how he behaves on the court. Morant should still not be playing, but that is what it is. Neither of these two should be playing this season for obviously very different reasons.
  20. That’s a pretty good one. I am guessing that because this movie was filmed in parts at I believe six different schools that they just did not pay attention to that detail. I think how they found Sessa was pretty impressive. Just in the right place at the right time in his life. Young aspiring actors and actresses always talk about luck playing a role in a career beginning and his had a good bit of that. If not for a hockey injury he may never have gotten the acting bug his freshman year of high school.
  21. Well it was Paraguay and obviously they just called the WhatsApp number the parents use when they travel.
  22. Pretty cool to see Da’Vine Joy Randolph win for best supporting actress. She was just fantastic in that role. I hope she goes onto many leading roles because she is very talented. She was the exact right person to play alongside Giamatti in this movie.
  23. Oh my gosh I hope everyone was able to get off the coast and to some higher ground. Man the waves looked crazy. Again I just hope there is no loss of life.
  24. This was a really cool movie. Just fun from beginning to end. Hope Hollywood can make more movies like this.
  25. My favorite movie I have ever watched. Just a beautiful movie.
