  1. Two days out from being 3 months since this thread was started and 103 104 pages thus far. What a mad mad mad world. Also: I noticed that Jared Kushner had commented on the development of Gaza over a year ago (since of course he's a real estate guy) and so nothing to see here, nothing to see....
  2. That popped up in my reminders list this week so we're probably going to watch it soon as well. I haven't seen My Name Is Loh Kiwan yet (another one of Song Joong-ki's films) that is also on Netflix. It's a drama vs thriller. I tend to save the dramas/genres/etc that others in the family may not enjoy as much for when I'm home sick etc. Song had a cameo in Queen of Tears that was hilarious but QoT is a romance/drama and my spouse isn't really into those so I watched it over a three day home with a bug recovery. When I run across a writer/director/actor(s) that I enjoy, I like to watch their other works. (QofT was directed by Kim Hee-won from Vincenzo). (side note: QoT was okay, it got decent reviews but there was some sloppy plot/writing that left me gruntled. Same thing with The King: Eternal Monarch. Lee Min-ho and Kim Go-eun as male and female lead, respectively are solid professionals, and the supporting cast was fine, but the time travel stuff started to get a little forced towards the end.) My spouse thought the banter was funny, but I think he was 'humoring' me to sit through the entire series given that it's not his genre. He's really more of a 3 Body Problem preference. Also: ditto on the commentary regarding spy/thrillers; we've enjoyed a lot of them over the past couple of years. Also also: The Nice Guys is still on Netflix and we rewatched it again, (lost count on how many times we've seen it) and it is so under-rated and thank you to whomever first recommended it as it's just so hilarious.
  3. If the U.S. taxpayers "gifting" Trump a NFL team would make him step away from politics, I can think of a few teams worth the sacrifice.
  4. We just watched the state of Texas do this with the abolition of auto inspections while maintaining the fee did we not? Whether one pays electronically or in person, most required services have fees: utilities, etc. The skim fest is going to be Yuuuuuge. Not to mention when crooks are the ones running the operation, one has to surmise that all data is not only a weapon but compromised worldwide.
  5. A real Barbie has a shit ton less plastic.
  6. Was very pleased to see the theme to Mr. Roger's Neighborhood at #5 in their listing. What a wonderful song for everyone. The one he sings that gets my eyes a little teary is "It's You I Like..." So many children need to feel this type of caring.
  7. ...and before I forget, 'member the Liz Truss (former UK Prime Minister) lettuce competition where many folks were rooting for the head of lettuce? While it's a dim chance of occurring (less than 1%), by the time we reach 2032, how many of us are going to be on Team Asteroid?
  8. Zero surprise that the Vice President, when faced with a moral dilemma on humanity, chooses an ad hominem attack. Dude, even your GOP predecessor had more spine and that's not exactly a compliment.
  9. So very very sorry for your loss @Brisketexan. Those memories are just one part of the legacy your parents shared with you but they are precious beyond anything else we have on this planet. May your family find strength through sharing those stories in the days ahead. Peace my friend, peace.
  10. Well there's a surprise. The guy that came up with the flaming CyberTruck is also a gaming CyberCuck.
  11. That crossed my mind while considering @South Austin's post on page 1 because once it gets cemented into a percentage of people's brain's "Trump is better than the Democratic Party with immigration," then they can slow up while other bsc news takes center stage because those people wouldn't believe anything else. If the economy takes a nose dive, then trot out the propaganda and videos and it's all Biden's fault once more. Regardless, wouldn't the fear strategy also work to keep wages and costs low among the ones that remain? Accessing healthcare, etc comes with too much risk?
  12. Sorry to learn of your mom's passing. Have no advice regarding legalities but do give yourself some time to feel ALL the emotions that grieving incurs. There will be moments when it sneaks up on you and it's okay to embrace those feelings when they come.
  13. The $10.00 Egg McMuffin is going to be an interesting market watch.
  14. After giving it some thought, I was trying to view your hope as not in vain, but your final conclusion is likely the correct one. While the $$ drain may end up taking its toll and cause alarm to some business sectors, there are also the strategies the GOP has floated before--child labor, for one. Or eliminating welfare, and other programs. And so on. I wondered if that was one of their schemes with eliminating taxing gratuities. They may also 'encourage' more females to return to low cost labor especially if other avenues for them begin to close due to new prohibitions on hirings (i.e. the merit myth the GOP is so hung up on) and/or having a pregnancy derail college or hs opportunities due to a lack of support. That used to seem far fetched by now it seems all too real.
  15. Poop Froots and Fart Tarts. This. This is why we need windmills.
  16. Bleach and horse paste are Covid treatments, don't you know? The protocol for bird flu is going to be antifreeze and glue, taken orally for three days or until symptoms abate. I'm pretty sure the symptoms will be gone quite quick but the prognosis is poor.
  17. Going back to Elon Musk and the German far right AdF party; Elon made a virtual speech at a rally wherein he stated that: “Children should not be guilty of the sins of their parents, let alone their great-grandparents,” and “It’s good to be proud of German culture, German values, and not to lose that in some sort of multiculturalism that dilutes everything...” Seems as if he's encouraging Germans to use the Christopher (anti-CRT/DEI) Rufo playbook wherein one focuses on white people, specifically children, being victims. Ah well, considering 1930s Germany paid close attention to U.S. history let's see how round 2 goes....
  18. Riiiiight Marco. You expect me to believe you? This is the administration that campaigned for four years while in office, including a presser at Four Seasons Landscaping courtesy of Rudy G., and now returning to office is the same administration that didn't like the fact that there were call logs kept between officials (including the President) and transcripts of those calls, and thus having likely learned their lesson this go round will either: not keep transcripts or falsify transcripts because oversight is now nonexistent. So Marco, I suspect everything you say is ass and the military was ordered to just drop 'em off OR you got played by the President of Columbia who called your bluff and now you look stupid...and are throwing a temper tantrum because you look stupid. Unfortunately that reflects upon all citizens of the US, more than half of whom will likely cheer the stupidity. Great. Wonderful. It makes me miss Angela Merkel and her expressions whenever she appeared at a function with DT.
  19. I went to the website and clicked on the little dots just to see what's up and the two in the US are thus: The one on the right: Heightened political antagonism in the United States following the reelection of Donald Trump leads to acts of domestic terrorism and political violence. Likelihood: Moderate. Impact: High The one on the left: A highly disruptive cyberattack on U.S. critical infrastructure by a state or nonstate enitity. Likelihood: Moderate. Impact: High The dot on the border between U.S. and Mexico: Deployment of US forces to the southern border triggers a humanitarian crisis among migrants and heightens tensions with Mexico. Likelihood: High. Impact: High
  20. This thread could really just be titled living under authoritarian and/or fascist regimes, as violence is a feature not a bug. Whether perpetrated by the regime itself or by citizens against the regime or each other, it's what happens when the powerful make (to quote Carlo Testa) "empty promises in response to real questions, real issues, and real problems — promises which are not kept, or are only kept to the extent that they serve the ruling classes’ own interests. The central concept is a perfunctory “symbolic” appeasement of the masses through things like direct propaganda, architecture, sports, the media, cinema, etc." These promises are made to specific groups but not others, in an attempt to "appease" them in a symbolic but meaningless way (of course that way tends to end up harming the out groups but 'fuck them others' is the fascist way) something of which most of the CR readers are already aware. The Leopards thread of reality meeting those promises is fairly benign, but the outcome should this RW bender continue, almost assuredly will get fairly gruesome. Directing violence against the ruling oligarchs is much trickier in our surveillance state nowadays. When one cannot reach the true source of one's rage, it seems the innocent further suffer as collateral damage. That's going to be beyond sad but welcome to our nightmare.
  21. Thank you for posting the article w/o the paywall. Not surprised regarding some of the author's discoveries. Even not being a member of the target demo for these podcasts, as a frequent youtube viewer/listener, I get caught up in the algorithm occasionally and the suggestions and ads associated with these accounts are rather obvious (to me) because, again, I'm not who they are trying to influence but the cuffs have been removed (not that anything was all that restrictive) and they've got a lot of eyes and ears soaking in the hate that's sprinkled in amongst the sports and other chatter so as to come across as reasonable people. Protect one's person and one's wallet when around someone who is straight up saying, "I'm a reasonable trustworthy person, see?"
  22. Sardines in a skillet with oil, lemon, garlic, and parsley is pretty darned delicious. Served on crackers, toasted bread/bagel and yeah, I dig it.
  23. Think about it for a minute though. The timberland some tribes own in Wisconsin, the mineral resources on the Pine Ridge reservation in SD and other tribal lands across the country, the casino properties, etc Just as many Japanese-Americans lost much of their assets during WWII when they were removed to camps far away from their homes, others stepped in and reaped the windfall of their labor. There are plenty of people who wouldn't bat an eyelash at this type of action. There is a good article in a recent Smithsonian magazine about a few cool Americans who did the right thing and tended farms etc for their neighbors while they were away and welcomed them back when they were able to return.
  24. These are sound ideas; if a certain Tier I SEC university isn't having too much buyer's remorse regarding the jv coach they hired after a very expensive buyout of the former coach, I would say wrap it in maroon and white and dub it The Elkmo and it will probably sell this fall for waay more than the initial purchase price. The key is the timing. Gotta act before the roller coaster hits peak velocity.
