  1. So, let's defend RFK Jr shall we? Here is a man who is aligned with Del Bigtree, the nonmedical huckster who turned anti-vaccine rhetoric into a lucrative career. Bigtree was, for a time, in Hollywood as a sometime actor and producer and it was during one of the shows he was assisting with that he ran across Andrew Wakefield. I don't need to tell you more about Wakefield I'm guessing. Anyhoo, Bigtree discovered that huckstering with this crowd can make some real money and he's been active ever since. Fast forward to NOW: Bigtree took RFK Jr's place at MAHA after Kennedy was picked for Secretary. MAHA is Make America Healthy Again and Bigtree is now CEO. No medical training whatsoever, but he's fine with that because medicine isn't necessary for what ails America apparently: (this is from an interview he did with FOX) So this is two men who will be promoting a "health" version of the political groups that give a scorecard and will without a doubt be promoted by Fox, Xitter, and be a defacto government mouthpiece for anti-science rhetoric. I know RFK Jr has his own thread, and the US certainly needs to revisit health and wellness policy but after the absolute shit that people gave former First Lady Obama for trying to amend the corporate foothold in the school lunch program and encourage dietary moderation, fuck their care and concern. They just want to grift off of ignorance.
  2. The trans phobia will only be broadcast when they've got something else they wish to either obscure, deflect, or gain votes/support from. However, the two topics above are pretty much policy and in place. W/respect to it affecting the economy, it will be a short term gain with long term negative consequences, IMO.
  3. I've watched Everything, Everywhere All At Once both sober and buzzed. I 'get' that movie sober, but I enjoy it a lot more when buzzed if that makes sense. But rep to the poster who listed John Wick on page 1. I'll watch those movies anytime but they're awesome with a nice cocktail in hand.
  4. As was noted, RFK Jr. commented that a "measles outbreak is not unusual," citing past year's cases. The measles "season" is still ongoing as is the current Texas outbreak so hard to say if the case counts will exceed earlier years: 2024: 285 cases of which 89% were unvaccinated or unknown 2023: 59 cases 2022: 121 cases 2021: 49 cases 2020: 13 cases 2019: 1,274 cases Obviously Covid may have changed people's habits with respect to congregating and exposure and 2019 was the year that NYC and the Pacific Northwest had two very large outbreaks among vaccine opposed groups. So, RFK is downplaying the spread of disease at a very critical time with this specific outbreak. While many residents that are, say, 13 years and older are inoculated, and I will certainly hope that herd immunity will prevail, we have the very real, very opportunistic chance for the virus to have a lot of fun because Spring Break approaches. Yee Haw! Florida and Texas and all the ski resorts are going to be lit.
  5. Jay Bhattacharya is a nominee for NIH. There are several linked articles in the thread that follows this initial post. One from Tech Dirt that I link directly: https://www.techdirt.com/2024/12/10/for-bhattacharya-free-speech-means-freedom-to-defund-dissenters/ is important because it directly relates to withholding funding for university campuses & reserchers that don't conform to the campus "culture" of which the fascists approve. Chilling on a McCarthy level loyalty purge. Bhuttacharya's hearing is set for March 5.
  6. Well Ryleigh, I hate to say it but wait until they ban hormonal birth control which is one of the ways in which to keep endometriosis under control. You will have company in the unable to conceive for health reasons category. But Viagra for the boys is still available!
  7. "You monkeys you! Give me back my hat!" Caps For Sale is also a classic in a similar vein.
  8. No need, really. Many American Christians don't even give that verse a second thought. The Oscar may have provoked comment because of the ebil Hollywood controlled by godless libs or of late, the heresy that is the NFL Super Bowl trophy, but a golden Trump blinds any and all to hypocrisy as they are the true believers.
  9. If that is what is discovered, wouldn't surprise me. We have semi-annual HVAC checks with a local business and several years ago I was having a ton of headaches (no, not for THAT reason) as were some family members and discovered that we had an issue in our system. Fixed it and all was good. Getting that air checked is important.
  10. Texas did have that state rep, Jonathan Stickland, who made the comment on a message board: "Rape is non existent in marriage, take what you want my friend!" so MAGA is not only not embarrassed, these are just the type of males they endorse. Stickland chose not to run in 2020 and pivoted to working for GOP groups in the state. You could say he turned trolling and hate into a pretty lucrative career (just like the Tates). Not bad for a HS dropout. Here's an article for some background and it's a good five minute read because one should pay attention to who is active behind the scenes and the groups that are bankrolling them. https://www.texastribune.org/2024/01/10/jonathan-stickland-texas-conservative/
  11. Then I'm sure they'll understand when you decline to support an enterprise that is soon to be banned by the GOP: female sports.
  12. Someone has to step into the Void Of Epstein and those two are a twofer: subjugation of women/girls & young male influencers.
  13. One astute reply I saw to this news was on Jamelle Bouie's social media: GOP ordered a shit sandwich and now complains that it's overcooked....
  14. She's 54 years old. In the age 50-54 demographic there are ~231 million woman in the world (as of 2023). So that's around 2.3 million women in that age group for your 1%, I think you can do much better than her out of those numbers. Especially if some of those women had the money to have a spa day.
  15. One could say that about a lot of career fields with respect to government and industry but since many members of Congress and the Senate do it, don't hold your breath.
  16. Perhaps Cavazzoni having joined the FDA under Trump's first go 'round was tapped by Pfizer board member Scott Gottlieb since he was head of the FDA while she was there. I mean it's not like the upper levels of government officials are going to mill around waiting to be fired or want to deal with the Teen Tech Toddlers looking over their shoulders and causing headaches--they're going to leave when opportunity knocks and it's going to be in their field, not ditch digging. Isn't this what was wanted? No people, no regulations, and everyone for themselves.
  17. Don't forget to add in the mothers of small children who have no daycare while they work. Pro Life! Family Values!
  18. I can do the chicken dance, that's all I got.
  19. (anecdotal) For our family, it's been very effective to get the annual shot. It's the secondary infections like pneumonia that are the real risk and as someone who has had that more than once, the prevention or resulting milder case of flu has been worth every penny. This anti-science death regime just doesn't give a damn until it's their own throat that's been strangled. Sickening.
  20. Damn this hits close to home. Got the flu shot and still got the flu and it still hit pretty hard. No shot or shortage and I'm going to be pissed.
  21. Since this thread has gone off the rails from The Trump Economy, I'd like to point out that there are so so very many ways in which women's lives are adversely affected in an economic sense that have NOTHING to do with the very small percentage of citizens who happen to be transgender and specifically male to female transgender. Employment, health care, education, child care, domestic violence, etc. Seems like those issues have a much broader and systemic effect over a woman's lifetime and after many strides were made over the last fifty years are facing a very real threat.
  22. Have a conversation with your pediatrician; IIRC, they will sometimes give infants <1 year a killed vaccine or some other type of inoculation that isn't quite as robust as the regular MMR, but during an outbreak can give some immunity. Since I'm hazy on the deets, talk to your doctor about it... The infant is 10 months old and most maternal immunity (even if breastfed) tends to wane by 5-6 months IIRC. It isn't a hard and fast condition, but some of the studies have indicated that measles immunity is usually nil by the earlier time frame I listed. Which is why infants can be severely affected--they normally don't get the first shot until 12-15 months of age, second shot around kindergarten age. God's will be done.
  23. Sad to say but the apostrophes have already surrendered.
  24. Well, the user name from a RW account should have been the tip off. While Mr. (I'm assigning a pronoun) Mad Maximus likely thinks of himself and identifies as the road warrior from the franchise; per usual he completely misses the point because his attitude is more along the lines of Toecutter or Immortan Joe, brutish selfish men for whom violence and oppression were breakfast foods upon which to feast. But then again, Mr. Maximus missing the point from a film is no surprise--liberal arts is one of those fancy dandy beta topics and comprehension above a six grade level not in his wheelhouse.
