  1. Dorothy Mantooth?
  2. Hope so because I'm taking some friends there on Thursday.
  3. Man, I wasn't really going to say it was "low-grade dog food." I don't even begin to understand how you manage all of this with a full time job and a young family. I really enjoyed the tailgate I attended last year. You really do go above and beyond and put on a great party. You're enthusiastic and friendly, and your hard work shines through. I'm sorry it's biting you in the ass. I wish I was in a financial position to play superman but have made some small donations this season. I hope others will do the same because having these tailgates is a good thing. Cheers.

    Burgers

I'm just making assumptions based on his posting history.
  5. The gunfight at Ravenwood's bar is so great. The exchange between Marion and Indiana at the end is the icing on the cake. Then, to Cairo!
  6. Ah, Joe's Restaurant. I feel I still owe you lunch and a beer.
  7. This whole administration boils down to one, simple axiom: THEY'RE ROBBING US!
  8. I never tire of this story. Making her sigh like that should be a badge of honor. Just sayin'. When I was a younger lawyer, I had a visiting, retired (old) judge straighten my tie before a hearing once. I was interviewing for my current job later that day and was appearing as ad litem (just needing to get paid) So I let him. Dammit, I encouraged him to get it good and straight.

    High

I read somewhere, for educational purposes, that when you ingest THC, the uptake is in the lymphatic system, rather than direct to blood stream. The presence of fat in the medium aids this, which is why eating something will help an edible kick in. It's also the reason that edible-highs last longer, I've heard.
  10. If those are the same ones they have at Sam's Club, they are very good. They used to have this even at my kids' elementary school called Arts & Carts, which was an arts showcase with hotdog carts. They had those Sam's dogs, and, damn, I love them!
  11. It just dawned on me that chips have become that gum from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory where you chew it and you eat a whole meal.
  12. Calm before the storm and so forth.
  13. Follow up question. I'm just going to assume I remember that Matt's, like many Tex Mex places, has a burger and fries on the menu. In my experience, such Tex-Mex restaurant burgers tend to kick a little ass. I'm sure one of my kids probably ordered one in their younger years, but long shot: Anyone who's had one, Does a burger from Matt's hit pretty good?
  14. It's like when we complain about BBQ. This is us.
  15. It's not quite pizza level (even bad pizza is pretty good), but JJ's chips aren't even bad. I haven't found a good salt and vinegar chip that wasn't too vinegar heavy, and I love vinegar flavors. Off to search for malt-vinegar potato chips.

    Burgers

My understanding was that they had a side business that they couldn't report to the IRS. And you were eating a burger there?
  17. Honestly, for the amount of business they do and the fact that they consistently pack that space with a wait, the fact that I can go there and, not having "best meal ever" expectation, can order something that doesn't disappoint me is pretty remarkable. It still probably qualifies as that place in Austin (see my post above), but it has a good view in every direction and, I can't believe I'm saying this (see above), but I've enjoyed some good margaritas there.
  18. Beat me by mere minutes, although I definitely associate Highlights with the dentist's office.
  19. I mean, a Chicago Italian Beef - "Wet" is not an unglorious thing.
  20. I think Molina's is fine. It's not mind-blowing, but I wouldn't complain if someone suggested it, and I'd have the nostalgia factor and order Jose's Dip, which seems the same as Bob Armstrong dip, but I digress.
  21. As a native Houstonian, I kind of wondered if Houston's answer to this wasn't Molina's. I grew up with it and really love it, but since I'm the guy telling you I like it, I wonder if it's the one people who didn't grow up in Houston going to that really isn't that great? But I'm sure Houston has several that qualify. As a transplant to Tyler, I can tell you that Tyler's version of this was Gilbert's El Charro. That place sucked and old-school Tyler people loved it. Mercifully, it closed years ago.

    Burgers

I walked by the location on 24th for years after it "closed." This has to be some sort of cruel joke.
