  1. What a fascinating modern era we live in. My prostate exam was anal-og.
  2. You're rotating pretty regularly on the 16" Koda, even with the fire dialed down. You don't walk away, in any event.
  3. My mom made her kids and grandchildren a cookbook of all of our favorites growing up. Another tasty treat was "Hamburger Chili Rice. Basically, a pound of ground beef (browned), onion, green bell pepper, can of chopped tomatoes (she didn't do spice, but this is where I would sub Ro-Tel), 2 cups of rice, 3--4 cups of water, lots of seasoned salt, chili powder, cumin, boil, cover, cook until done. I know this thread has taken a turn into damned tasty stuff our parents threw together, but like other easy recipes mentioned above, this one also is pretty solid, weeknight fare.
  4. It's surprisingly quite good.
  5. I've posted about this before, but my Dad's go-to sandwich was wheat bread, mayo, bologna, American cheese, peanut butter, and Coleman's brown mustard. He'd get lots of grief from everyone every time he made it but he didn't give two shits. I tried it once, and while it wasn't for me, it wasn't half bad. And on the 115th anniversary of his birth in a couple of months, I'm inclined to make a version of his sandwich in his honor, although I may, with a modicum of guilt, upgrade the Oscar Meyer and Kraft ingredients.
  6. Woah! Those look amazing!
  7. A little late, but this slammed.
  8. Mother's Day Chicken Pot Pie pictures incoming. Resting
  9. My mom used to make "Spaghetti Casserole. Spaghetti (cooked) on the bottom. Top with mixture of jarred sauce and ground beef. Top with shredded cheddar, repeat. Bake covered at 350F for about 40 minutes. Pretty damned tasty actually.
  10. I incorrectly read that in Donald Sutherland's voice. Tom Skerritt. Aw, hell: "We were in the worst dogfight I ever dreamed of. There were bogeys like fireflies all over the sky. His F-4 was hit, and he was wounded, but he could've made it back. He stayed in it, saved three planes before he bought it."
  11. He's working on Tuesdays, unfortunately.
  12. Fresh cuts. We were supposed to take the Schnoodle, but the kid took the wrong two.
  13. User name is not checking out. Also, in the spirit of the thread, The Cars. Pick an album pretty much. The Cars, Candy-O, and Shake it Up! each is a total banger of an album. Obviously, I was aware of them in the 80s and heard several songs. But I never leaned into them. Also, because of the amount of radio play, I slept on Tom Petty's Wildflowers as a total album. And although I obviously heard many of the songs, I only bought the album in the last five years.

The suggestion in wherever I first read it was that Trump wouldn't be supportive of it and the majority in Congress would act accordingly. But if it's a can that always is kicked down the road without any major revisions, I'm willing to be an optimist (one more time).
  15. That's good advice and, if I'd eaten there before, I'd go that route every time. But as much as I like BBQ, this is more about doing something with my college-aged kid while he's barely, sort of a kid. Ordering ahead certainly is a pro-move, but it ain't a memory. I gotta do it once.

Timing of Expiration There are two principal expiration dates for the farm bill as extended: the end of the fiscal year (September 30, 2025) and the end of the crop year (December 31, 2025). Expiration by Fiscal Year Expiration of a farm bill on September 30 matters for programs with fiscal year authorizations. The effects may vary among the mandatory spending programs—including nutrition, conservation, and other agricultural programs—and may affect some programs' operations, as explained through this report. The fiscal year date also affects programs with authorizations of appropriations to receive discretionary funding but with fewer consequences. Expiration by Crop Year Farm commodity support programs are authorized on the basis of crop years. A crop year refers to the calendar year during which a crop is harvested.3 The 2018 farm bill, as extended, authorizes the farm commodity programs through the 2025 crop year. The first commodity harvested with a 2026 crop year is dairy, which coincides with the calendar year beginning on January 1, 2026. https://www.congress.gov/crs-product/R47659
  17. I've got a similar plan while my son is living in Austin this summer. Thinking I'll take a couple of days off and we'll wait in line on a Thursday. Are we talking 7 a.m. arrival to get somewhere in the part of the line that definitely will be fed?

The problem may arise if they hit a stalemate, pass nothing, and then, Congress doesn't renew the Farm Bill at the national level, the extension of which is set to expire in September.
  19. Man, I had to hang out there for a bit with this revalation, i.e. curvy gal on cooking channel. Glad I still can rely on Surly to justify my weird proclivities.

    Old School BMX....

When I was 10, I decided to try my hand at BMX racing. I went out to the track for a practice run and had a good time. I signed up for a race. Next thing I know, my old Mongoose's front tire is resting on a rail and I'm crammed between all manner and means of total redneck kids who are about to eat my lunch. The kid next to me mocks, "Nice bike." The gate goes down and I come in dead last. It wasn't for me. But I feel like I turned out better for the experience.
