  1. We have an office in Portsmouth, NH. When I have to visit there, I usually rent a car from the Avis on 64th between 2nd and 1st and take Harvey with me. I can walk there, and I always fill up the car at a Shell station in Harlem and also get it detailed (Harvey sheds something fierce). I usually head up there once in the summer (though this summer is going to be tough) and in the fall (get to leaf peep for free). I think this year, Harvey and I might head up to Salem or near there for Halloween. Also, Concord and Lexington are doing celebrations for the 250th Anniversary of the Battles of Lexington and Concord in April (Easter Weekend to be specific), so might be fun to go up there then.
  2. I hate driving in the city. I try and avoid it, but sometimes, renting a car and escaping is a good idea.
  3. My aunt lives on Ave B, up the hill from the beach in Redondo. She said they’ve got smoke and ash there.
  4. Why do you do that to yourself? The reality is that hate should have no quarter. They hate that she is a woman, and they hate that she is a lesbian. The fact that Elon and his ilk cannot fathom that she was the best person for the job is insidious misogyny that should have no place in society at all.
  5. Fuck Ted Cruz. This is not political. This has everything to do.with This asshole's proven losing record. Also, it's my birthday, and I can tell Ted Cruz to go fuck himself if I want to. He didn't go here!
  6. Today is my birthday. Texas should win because, otherwise, the 10th of Jan is a hard birthday to have.
  7. From my apartment in getting ready to head out to dinner to celebrate my birthday... TEXAS!!!!!
  8. Yep. That is where I am at now. I mean, even if I got a massive birthday present of a lottery win (I only play when it is over 500M, but since today is my birthday, I am buying tickets for both the big pots today), I would not buy. There is not a lot of good inventory on the market, so prices are unbelievably high, and for places where you are going to have to put massive amounts of work in. I would rather buy the 60k house in Southern France and put 100k into that and have a place to escape to.
  9. Honestly, don't see much. One time, I was heading to my office (sometimes, I take the 57th bus to 5th ave and walk down) through Rockefeller Center, when I saw two ladies run out of the GAP on 6th (which is now closed) and point to a man with a rucksack saying he had stolen sweaters and the woman walking about 3 steps ahead and him was with him. A guy in a 3 piece suit and what looked like a highschooler, grabbed the guy's bag, and opened it, and sure enough, there were about 5-6 sweaters with tags on them. NYPD were standing about 10 feet away and pretended like they saw nothing. About 2 more random people came in and kept the guy from his bag until they got all the stolen merch from his bag. Once the ladies had everything, the guy in the suit handed the bag back to him, and everyone walked away. Guy and his lady accomplice scurried away, and everyone went back to thier business. That is really the only things I have ever encountered in this city, other than random drunk people falling down outside bars (and having to help get them in an ambulance).
  10. I am already pretty close to uptown (58th and 1st). The problem is, my rental is just over 1000 sq ft with a great, open floor plan in a full service building. I do not want to be house poor, and a mortgage in a full service COOP would make me house poor, unfortunately. But it is all ok.
  11. Private equity is pretty nuts as well. I’ve been doing this for over 20 years, and I think I’ve worked more in the last 3.5 years than I did in the prior 5, and that included when I was Americas Head of Fimance for another trading shop. i lived in NyC during the credit crash. I wish I’d stayed and bought a place then. But I went to Houston instead. I came back in 2019, and I’m effectively priced out of anything I would want to own. Bleh.
  12. Finance and accounting for a Global Commodity trading firm.
  13. I’m not. I’m taking a car. And I have only taken the LIRR out of GC/Madison once, but I can imagine it would be a right PITA with my luggage. I’m usually flying international for at least a week. No thanks.
  14. That is effectively what they’ve done with Airtrain to LIRR. Yes, there is a stop, but this way, they can use existing tracks. There are limited crossings of the East River. Manhattan is slightly different due to it being an island. That said, I live on the east side, and it’s easier to car for me with my luggage. Getting to and from Penn station can sometimes take as long as a car to JFK. Subways and buses are fine. If you see a crazy person on the subway, just go to a different car. Like @Reynolds Woodcock, I live and work in the congestion zone, so I support the rules.
  15. Paris uses Goats for some of its parks. The Jardin des Tuleries for example... Governors Island uses sheep. https://www.govisland.com/things-to-do/recreation/hammock-grove-sheep

  17. I read the book when it first came out. Never saw the show. The movie was very well done. The themes of the book are readily apparent in the movie. Part of the reason I never saw the musical is I didn’t know how well those themes would translate. Obviously, better than I thought they would.
  18. Universal Tariffs of 10-20% on all imported goods. All those folks worried about the price of things are about to get a nice shock. Idiots.
  19. I think it is also people of a certain age. My mom will say, "Well, I don't think that's right." a lot. Even when I have facts to show her. Look, I hear dumb shit all the time. I will always go find objective sources to see if something is true or not. You can usually debunk bullshit in about 5 minutes. The problem is, for some people, their source is places like Gateway Pundit or Fox News. Idiots.
  20. The NY Times is profiling those who were prosecuted for Jan 6th. Ole Domestic Terrorist Barbie is of course covered. Let me just say, fuck all these people, and fuck cunts like @Frank Drebin and @Balcones who say they did nothing wrong. https://www.nytimes.com/2025/01/06/us/politics/trump-capitol-attack-jan-6.html Jenna Ryan Credit...Desiree Rios for The New York Times Jenna Ryan was a real estate broker and social media influencer in the Dallas area when she entered the Capitol on Jan. 6, praying and chanting “Fight for Trump!” with a crowd in the Rotunda. The next day, she posted a message on Twitter, saying: “We just stormed the Capitol. It was one of the best days of my life.” All of that ultimately led to a 60-day prison term. She claims that she was treated harshly because of her “public profile” as a Jan. 6 defendant. But being sentenced for illegally demonstrating in the Capitol also allowed her to fulfill what she describes as her “lifelong goal of being a writer and a speaker.” Ms. Ryan, 54, has written a book called “Storming the Capitol: My Truth About January 6th,” which she says “shows how it feels to be caught in the middle of a polarized political climate, canceled by society, surveilled by the F.B.I. and thrown in prison for a tweet.”
  21. Jodie Foster just won Best Performance by an Actress in a Limited Series, Anthology Series, or Motion Picture Made for Television at the Globes, beating out Kate Winslet and Cate Blanchette.
  22. Colin Farrell just won Best Performance by an Actor in a Limited Series, Anthology Series, or Motion Picture Made for Television at the Globes.
  23. This. Thanks a lot, @Bozo_Casanova for flashing the Idiot Signal that brought @Ag with kids back. Sigh.
