  1. Some felt that Michigan was too often in cover 3. The first 3rd and long that was converted to Bond. Deep middle safety. If cover 3, the corner did an awful job. That was on him. The TD pass called back. Ewers broke the pocket. It was not really a play call or even an initial coverage issue. Same for the Helm TD catch. Ewers played well and made a few critical plays. Whatever Michigan ran, they mixed in 4, 5 and even a 6 man fronts before they dropped. It was more about our abilities and capabilities than whatever scheme Michigan ran.
  2. Yeah, I don’t get it. We will see if those guys working together on the 2nd team breeds some familiarity too. When your Oline turns over, this is pretty much the ideal scenario. It’d be more concerning if it were last years OSU DLine. They aren’t anymore blue blooded or experienced than we are.
  3. It’ll be interesting to see the reaction to whomever is the emergency QB.
  4. The grades of their returning Olinemen are not good. I think you could throw Hutson in there as far confidence level. On paper there isn’t a reason for them to be so confident. Think it was Montgomery that did best against us as far as there returnees. Let’s assume the Minnesota guy starts. If I’m remembering correctly our projected Ts have more plays at T than theirs do. Hinzman and Hutson have similar play counts. Campbell has more than any Olineman. Tegra T is 2nd on OSU with 850 plays and graded out at 58.
  5. I’m sure that’s the case, but they aren’t protected there. If somebody wants your #3, he’s gone one would think. Then if you lose your #1, you’re scrambling for a #2.
  6. I have not either, but it was previously stated that all AFC teams kept 3 last year. You can use the 3rd guy to get an extra active roster spot for each game too. You get to expand the GameDay roster to 49 for the 3rd QB and only the 3rd QB.
  7. It seems odd that any team would not keep 3 QBs. Odds are at least one goes down during the season so that 3rd guy will be active at some point. I suppose it’s that teams don’t view the 3rd guy as much. There’s talk that Sam will not make the roster. Obviously I’m a homer, but it’s difficult to imagine that whomever number 53 is proves more valuable than Sam.
  8. Cody Simon moved on to your Arizona Cardinals. They undoubtedly have talent, but they lost more on defense that we did. Collins, Broughton were 1 year starters at Texas. Makuba a half year starter at Texas. Sorrell may have had more starts than the others combined. For example, their departing secondary starters logged over 6,500 plays. Ours about 3,300. Their 4 Dline guys that left had 7,200 snaps whereas ours were 5,200, although that didn’t include Lole and Norton, but they were only here a year. They lost more experience at LB too. Thats 15,000 game reps that walked out the door. So they get younger, less experienced and a new DC. It’ll be disappointing if they transition into the new year better than we do. So we have more play experience returning with a massive push to fill our DT rotation to offset the losses there. There may be an acclimation period but not sure that’s wholly different than OSU with a new DC.
  9. It was 4th down. Let it rip.
  10. But those final two possessions down 57-0 technically does.
  11. I was more following the conversation to which you responded. In reading their fans perspective, they have a heavy focus on what they’re returning rather than what they’ve lost on the Oline. The original statement from fell side that LT, C and RT return from that game is not accurate and distorts perception particularly given what we can bring off the edge. Their only returning reps at T are from transfers or Moore with 31 reps. Daniels has 4 games with significant reps. He graded poorly in each. Sounds as though the Rice guy is disappointing. I am hard pressed to find a more definitive edge anywhere else in this game. On either side.
  12. Per PFF, both RT and LT against us and throughout the season are gone. Siereveld only played G, logging 17 snaps against us. So he had a limited role against us and at a different position. Burke is no slouch either and if they go quick game, his size could cause them issues there too. We’re hopeful our inexperienced guys come thru. They’re hopeful their dudes rise above and do shit they haven’t really done or seen.
  13. Jones likely fits in just fine on this roster. Foster came in firing. I’m not certain what happened with Foster, but he competed upon arrival. It would have been interesting to see them in this environment. I think they’d do quite well actually. It is much different when you can play to your strengths and your weaknesses are somewhat hidden. That’s where we are as a program. Nevermind that the Big 12 was much more offensively oriented right down to the holding which allowed extra time for receivers to work and QBs to find them. It’s a little humorous how we went from Taaffe never should see the field to All American. It wasn’t all about him maturing or his skill set becoming well defined either.
  14. Sounds like a Texas One Fund fundraiser waiting to happen.
  15. So you previously said the change will matter. Now you are saying it could or should and maybe nothing happens. Let’s keep in mind that change in the parameters was not discussed so we don’t whether it’ll result in a 1% difference or 10% difference. I agree they’ll have their justifications in order. It doesn’t sound as though our objectives are ultimately different or maybe even our reservations. But damn don’t make me threaten to whip @jimmyjazz’s ass due to such hostility.
  16. Actual results that prove it. Take your Baylor. They lose to Auburn then lose two more in the Big 12. Does 9-3 Baylor go over 10-2 Indiana? If Baylor loses out, then there’s a chance they think twice when scheduling future games. They don’t know they’re out or in at 10-2, but they do know they’re out at 9-3. Also with the loss to Auburn, they’ve now opened the door for a 4-loss Auburn to knock them out. Some ADs are willing to risk that; others are not. The Texas, the Ohio States will always have room for error more than others partly due to conference affiliations. Outside those two conferences, stacking wins is more important. And it’s incredibly difficult to imagine an SEC conference championship participant not get a playoff invite in favor of a non-championship participant. So what about a 10-3 Indiana as compared to a 9-3 Texas? That would imply they lose to OSU too or made it further in conference. A 10-2 Texas is getting in over a 10-2 Indiana is the scenario you presented tweak to the formula or not. They can justify at that point before the additional data point. I do think the media hype is a big deal and more impactful about getting big games than this is. Im an advocate for scheduling the good stuff but not all those with authority will view it the same. I’ve already got plans to watch us play at Oregon. My argument has nothing to do with how I feel but more of how others may act.
  17. In theory it’s a big deal, but will it matter? I’d assume we’re going to line up all the P4 one loss teams then the two loss then three loss. Figure out where to slot the non-P4s. The SEC and Big 10 will continue to assume their schedules are worth 1 or 2 more losses but know they won’t get all the slots but will work to take all they can get. I do think that we’ll end up at the front of the line of our loss category with our schedule, which would likely be with or without this adjustment. From a scheduling standpoint for 90% of the teams, a loss would be more detrimental even against a high quality opponent than a win over a middling opponent. They’ll never have the depth to sustain over the long season if scheduling hard. Whatever rationale they currently have, they’ll still have. In the end, I think you’ll have teams scheduling based on their own perspectives with this having a limited impact.
  18. I don’t blame people either, which plays more to my point than any fear of us going on the road. It is not as anticipated as some other games. It just happens to be on the road, which will give UF some benefit particularly if they survive September. I’m thinking we come out well versus OSU and absolutely ready. Fans and players alike are thinking about that game. I was considering UF potentially more similar to Arkansas or Vandy last year. Those were not our best efforts from an intensity standpoint. But where it falls on the schedule is ideal. Also depending on how September goes, it could be UF that comes out flat. If their Oline and Baugh are firing, you don’t want to wake up midway thru the 1st and realize you have a game. I’ve been following your discussion on Lagway. His health certainly is impactful. No matter I’m on board for 12-0 and national championship.
  19. There is nothing in recent history to say there’s a good comparison. If you are attempting to say Michigan last year or Alabama the year prior are comparable, they really aren’t. They likely got substantial focus from Sark and crew during the off season. The OSU game is a better comp there. The UF game is not a prove a point game. Those were. Not to mention after those two games, we could screw around and still win - Rice, Wyoming, UTSA. This year we get OU after UF. Now, why might UF get less focus? Because they aren’t OSU or Georgia or OU or A&M. Because we beat the shit out of them last year. Even on this board, there is not tremendous anticipation about the game. Now South Austin was absolutely correct, and that’s the best argument. We play 3 lackluster games leading into UF with a bye. It’s the conference opener. We will likely be amped for that game. And as another poster said UF has a couple of more difficult games leading up to it so they likely aren’t focusing on us solely. Anyway, I’m on board just for different reasons.
  20. Sark at Texas? No. Any other time? Maybe, but I don’t have an example. We were 0-3 versus UGA and OSU last year. One for a championship. Another for a shot at a championship. One we open the season with a #1 vs #2 matchup. Both national champs in the past 5 years. That is unique that brings a certain amount of focus on those games. As brother Austin points out, SEC opener after some easy ones will help us be ready. You are right about that. That’s far better than if it were that MSU or Kentucky week. The bye before Georgia is a nice break too. UF is still relatively early too. So Fine, you win. Our depth will help us navigate the long season, but there’s likely a game or two where we are lackluster. That shouldn’t be a problem against a Kentucky. UF is one of the few teams offensively with the potential to hit us in the mouth. Even with focus, that could present some problems.
  21. Not in general but in the context of it’s a long season and you don’t always bring the same juice. I do believe OSU and UGA will get a higher intensity from us. Sure. We’ve also never had as many high profile road games in the same season. But the more important part is that UF has a chance to win some battles upfront and have some success offensively. Baugh is a bit of a load so long season, a little home crowd energy, and some offensive skill can make it a difficult matchup. But note, I never said we’d lose.
  22. This is my reason for them being the most difficult game on the schedule. Secondarily, it’s on the road and we might be apt to be less focused than for other games.
  23. I follow Horns football throughout the year, pretty religiously. Sometimes, I feel age and life beats me down so that maybe I’m not as excited about the upcoming year as I have been. So thanks to some of you for helping build the fire this year. The Oline. There’s no perceptible reason this can’t be a great one. As some have mentioned, there is reason to believe they improve as we progress. Yeah, only 1 returning starter, but 3 with starting experience. Hutson, Robertson, Neto have been together for going on 4 years. Goosby, Campbell, and Hutson have been in the fire. Are we any worse off at RT than we were a year ago? Now, reaching into the PFF bag yesterday, I see that our TEs both ranked in the 200s out of 200-something in their run grades. Obviously, they are an extension of the Oline. In my mind, they are very different and view them as different. From my recall there were several plays that failed due to those who are not Olinemen failing to get their block. I need some of you to focus on reality. We aren’t going to have 5 guys that kick ass. They certainly won’t kick ass equally at pass protection and run blocking. There are reasons the Bamas, the Ohio States, the Georgias have been dominant programs. Towards the very top of the list is that their D-lines do not get manhandled and more often than not they win their 1v1s. It’d also help if you realized that numbers matter too. Five won’t often block 6. And it may just be an occasion in which others miss their blocks or the ball carrier misses the hole. Thats the same as it’s always been, always will be. Here is the beauty of this. This unit doesn’t need to carry us. If we can win a championship 3-0, then they did enough. Personally, I think the offense does quite well and complements the team well.
  24. You’re thinking a guy that redshirted at Ball State then played 100 garbage snaps in year 2 will suddenly be ready for Bama? If he’s more ready than our freshmen, it’s likely not by much. Ourlads, which is likely not overly accurate, has him listed as 3rd team. He’s basically a Hail Mary that would push a more talented freshman down the depth chart. A guy willing to come in and sit 3rd team at OT is either very young, which I’d bet costs some cash, or is buried on the depth chart elsewhere, which means he’s not better than what we have. We had Goosby/Baker/Cojoe/Brooks. If anyone gets down to their 5th OT, they’re in trouble. And they’re likely considering moving pieces to get a G out there.
  25. You may be onto something here. It’s possible Hutson is the 3rd or 4th G. Sark has subbed at G more than anywhere else on the Oline the past two years albeit because that’s where we were inconsistent. It could be about Robertson at C and Hutson at G and what the hell, throw Neto at LT for a brief run. I can’t imagine that was the look for extended periods of practice. But Sark knows we’re whipping ass so maybe he’s less concerned about locking in reps at this moment.
