  1. Couldn't agree more with your post, BevoAbyss. I pick the detail above because ignoring the charm and beauty of the dark night sky sorta suggests where all of these problems found root. It would be so easy to put shades on street lights and giant parking lot lights so that they only cast their light downwards and not up to veil the view of the stars. Hell, the parking lot lights could just be turned off after closing. We've moved to the country just north of Johnson City. Some of the women of the area have addressed the tiny local government about the needlessly bright lights in a few locations. There're maybe 25 altogether. Preserve the night sky! The mayor at the time just dismissed the idea with, "I like bright lights!" Just scorn for the idea that something so simple as preserving the night sky. This is the political forum, and I'll point once again to the GOP hate engine. Recall that Nixon signed environmental laws that received largely, as I recall, bi-partisan support. Why should there be resistance to cleaning the rivers and air? The hate engine gives us the notion of "environmental wackos" who tread on the sacred rights of industry to do whatever they please. Industry is capitalism. Capitalism is what the Founding Fathers founded with the Declaration of Capitalism and Constitution of the Holy Order of the Market. Now, there is knee-jerk objection to anything suggesting the environment deserves priority or that doing things just a little differently could add some beauty to our world. So, why give up plastic? Why consider cutting back on beef? Why not keep buying giant vehicles that you don't need? Why change anything in this perfect world created by the greatest country that ever existed peopled by the best people ever? Not even one simple thing like preserving the night sky will be considered.
  2. I would not want to be the scientist searching for and counting the 20 particles.
  3. I don't believe it will feel the same way as those other two big weekends in the past that CTJ describes. It's a third piece of theater saying that they're just about to turn the corner. That message has to be getting a little stale for recruits who can easily recall last year's debacle. Further, I don't think it's crazy to believe that the lustre of a close loss or win over the Tide is not diminished this year. If A&M beats Bama, they will still be second to us in doing so. That's just my distant, ill-informed opinion about the importance of the game. I have no idea of how much money it takes to make great players believe they can get some nice cash and play at the highest level. There is also the variable of A&M losing to Mississippi and Tennessee and maybe LSU. Does the Alabama win still make it look like them dear ol' Texas Aggies from Texas are on the brink of greatness? Just speculating. I know CTJ is far more plugged in.
  4. It's been horrible to witness. I think the erosion got going back in the 80s when Texas was chic and you had phonies walking around in fucking leather vests and cowboy hats. More Texans lived down to the stereotype of the loud proud Texan. I recall my father who was born here seeing that "Native Texan" bumper sticker that was on so many vehicles back then. "There's something to be proud of," he said in a bemused grumble. "'I was born somewhere.' That's a real achievement."
  5. I'd go to that game as a guest. It will be a wild scene with maximum Aggie regimented school spirit, and you get to see a Nick Saban coached Alabama team which will make a good memory. I'm not worried about the Aggie pride in their yelling and standing. I'd prefer the feel of a big game at Memorial-DKR than that of Kyle Field. College football should be fun and festive. We've got that and Memorial rocks for big games.
  6. The SS checkmated Trump by not taking him to the Capitol. I think that was a huge factor in sliding the odds back to the people. Trump showing up to enter the Capitol and ordering the Capitol Police to make way would have likely gained admittance for him and his mob to make their way to where the votes were to be counted. Until you get to Pelosi, who would feel like they had the authority to stop him? That's a horrendous scene that I'm glad we didn't have to witness.
  7. Imagine this idiot, Crazy Sydney, Drunk Rudy, Eastman, and Stephen fucking Miller being the brains behind a fascist overthrow of the US government. Imagine these people imagining themselves as the elite leaders in the Trump Cabal after Jan. 6. What were these people seeing as they dreamed of their futures? They're bound to have confided in friends. What kind of feedback did they get? Surely some of the people they knew said, "Pillow Guy, this is nuts. If you fail it's ruin and jail for you!" I'd love to hear one day what their actual vision was as Trump put his toadies in the Pentagon while planning to himself lead the mob into the Capitol. "Oh man! This is going to be great!" I can't feature the scene.
  8. I hadn't opened a thread there in years. I saw familiar names. You're right about it being TexAgs for Longhorn Regards:
  9. A key lesson in life: Simply making a joke is not the same as being funny.
  10. Very good post. It's interesting how even what the "right" is has been totally transformed from a fundamental counter to big government, big spending, and over-regulation to a bundle of issues that just a few decades ago wouldn't have even been defined as partisan issues. Abortion: No reason for this to be partisan. A person can be anti-abortion for moral reasons and still believe in expanding aid to the poor, cutting defense spending, and even the Equal Rights Amendment. Guns: Same thing. In fact, there actually isn't even much of a difference between how most Dems and GOPs feel about restricting gun sales, allowing private gun ownership, and even registering guns. The GOPs turned this into another scare issue by saying the Dems want to take all your guns so that they can enslave you. Immigration: Should this be a partisan issue? I don't think so. Neither party is for unlimited open borders. Just as in guns, one party says the other party wants a flood of immigrants to increase their voting base. A real debate on immigration would discuss the value of persons willing to take jobs most citizens don't want and then decide if we're happy with the possible exploitation of migrant farm workers to keep food prices down. "The right" pretty much doesn't exist anymore. A friend tells of his Dad who grew up in pre-WW2 Boston. Lots of gangs. I'm not sure which way this went, but there was a gang that had been called the Irish Boys. That gang's location became a place where Jewish people lived. Even though the gang was comprised of Jewish boys, they kept the name of the Irish Boys. So it is with the right. Whatever they were, they no longer are. Sticking with the label of the "right," I believe, keeps the electorate and journalists from addressing the actual paradigm shift. I've written too long, I suspect. It's just all so horribly interesting.
  11. Not to mention how often they can't watch TV because there's no wind. And, my God!, the secondary damage to ratings!
  12. This is beyond parody. It fits well with the funeral hijinx thread in showing just how insanely single-minded so many of them are. BmtAg96 seems to believe that just about the only thing pollsters are considering is where to rank A&M in regard to Texas. Each voter can clearly see the reasoning of Miami > OU and their win over Bama being worth more than ours. So what's the deal? It's laid out right there for them? Why? Why? Oh, I'll tell you why:
  13. Depends on if I'd trained to fight in the particular altitude where the store was.
  14. Great for her and Arizona! I read a more in depth article (or maybe more of just the one quoted above). This was a corrupt GOP action through and through. GOPs in office protected the deal.
  15. This is a little too on-the-nose for the location of Carlson's home.

I can't tell you how fabuous life is when you have so much of all three.
  17. I will be happy to not have the backend of our schedule be such a lackluster list of opponent names. The new schedules will be fun.
  18. You know your countrymen. They've been playing this card since Carter. It's almost quaint in its level of despicability.
  19. I may have lost the thread of the discussion, but earlier the talk of bleeding had to do with human cost. I don't see us as bleeding Ukraine and support aiding them. I am concerned about the human cost and wonder if that may be what leads to resolution. I'm fine with bleeding the Russian military as they have impaled themselves on this spear.
  20. How much of a difference do you think there really is between normies and MAGAs? The Republican hate engine created MAGA, relied on MAGA, and controlled MAGA until Trump stepped in and seized the reins. MAGA is just the hate engine gone nudist public. They just care that it's embarrassing to have it so public. They can't do without it and couldn't separate from it even if they wanted to. It's who they are.
