  1. If you're talking about Ukraine, you and I likely part ways on our opinion of that policy. I'm for supporting this spear in the side of Russia. And the Russians asked for it.
  2. Yep. I usually write "manful" in front of it.
  3. It was a Pax Americana for Europe to be sure. The US protected that part of the world. How much Pax was there in Southeast Asia, Latin America, or the Middle East? Did we really need to get so crosswise with China?
  4. I think I've been reflective along those same lines [as Anastasis]. I wrote something that invited a flare-up of comment in the Decline of Trump thread. I didn't pursue it out of laziness and awareness that it was the wrong thread. This likely isn't the right one either. Our record in Latin America alone is a breathtaking excercise in exploitation using just about any means. Our deposing the democratically elected president of Iran to re-install the Shah so we could have our way with local resources in another bloody black mark on this overly self-congratulatory country. We paint our foreign and war policy as good guys versus bad guys. Simplistic and counter productive. The well-written responses in that other thread pointed to the Pax Americana and the value of American military force in the world since WWII. I was not making an absolute argument against every action the US has taken. I was just pointing out the large element of our foreign policy which is stupid, brutal, and working in service of the greed now grown almost holy in our culture. We fumbled the best chance we had in Afghanistan by pulling out the special forces to secure the north of Iraq when Turkey, one of the allegedly threatened neighbors of Iraq refused to participate in the second war of the Bush term. The invasion of Iraq was a disastrous policy in some ways worse than Viet Nam because at least in the earlier bloody, useless war, we thought we were fighting an actual enemy. At least North Vietnam was communist even though they posed no threat to the US. Over and over and over again.
  5. He's smart enough to put all his eggs in the Texas Tech basket come the end of the season.
  6. Well said. From the NYT 2006: There's the first 2. Here's the second 2: Dominican Republic Sex Trafficking, Wikipedia: Shall we do the addition? How would Rush have done the math if this were a Clinton? I hope he woke up rotting in his grave for a few hours. Fuck this fucking piece of dead shit.
  7. No. That's not the underlying premise. The underlying premise is right there on the top. TV journalists and editorial staffs are too lazy to pursue stories that don't match the templates they keep handy. They are neither inclined to cover two huge stories (climate and fascism) nor are they intellectually equipped. As to your general point, they're not very good at tracking down drama either. Again, they stick to templates. Mass Shooting, let's see what the template says: Where was the gun acquired? Will this move legislators? Where's the shot of people hugging and crying? Cue the shot of cops and swat teams leaving scene with equipment. Strictly limit discussion to gun control. Ignore cultural issue (don't want to insult any viewers) Ignore mental health care deficiencies (too complicated; Bor-ring) Cue bios of the victims and heart-tugging stories of their fabulous virtue CNN couldn't bring themselves to use the words "lies" and "liar" to describe Trump throughout his entire presidency. Why? It. Doesn't. Fit. The. Template. MSNBC is an exception. Many print outlets actually find news. TV "news" is all panel shows.
  8. I'm unaware that I've done this. Which nazis do I applaud?
  9. A plurality of maybe 25% of all voters controls more than half the power of the US government. Their numbers just barely give the GOP a chance at winning. A criminal organization such as the GOP cannot afford to lose power. They will hold it at any costs which is a lesson they keep teaching us. Optimism about more sensible heads in the GOP is embarrassingly naive in the face of more than five years of evidence. We're discussing people who wailed about Jan. 6 on that day when they were terrified then backed the traitor who called for that insurrection. We need to be wiser than the meat puppets on CNN and other news channels who cannot see the shift in paradigm. They're lazily willing to keep hoping the world returns to the one they found so easy to cover. Their sleepy habits lull us all. So many elements causing this vortex, my friends. We're failed by so very many.
  10. It's a strange year in college football where it's not easy to be sure how good anyone really is. I think we still have the best victory of anyone so far. We've also taken care of business against the rest of the schedule. I think we're actually very good. I don't think we'd mudhole everyone else in the top ten. We belong there, but we haven't replaced Alabama or Georgia or Ohio State. The Aggies still believe their talent makes them a top five team. Their on-field performance has been spotty with a bad loss to Miami. Typical of the Aggies, they're comparing losses instead of wins. Auburn is good because they lost a close one to Georgia. Arkansas is good because they lost a close one to LSU. They themselves lost to a fabulous undefeated team that's not getting enough credit. Maybe the Aggies will end up being good, but they look like their mediocre selves being buoyed by a down SEC. I think their smothering DL will go back to being just better than average (pass rushing anyway) faced with Alabama's superior (to A&M's other opponent's) OL. If they lose that edge, their defense's weak cbs become a factor. If the Aggie OL remains as poor as there is no reason to believe they haven't remained, they'll face the kind of rush they've inflicted on their weak opponents. I will remind them and anyone else who has forgotten about one of the most impressive things Texas did against Alabama; we ran the ball to maintain possession for the last 7 minutes of the game. They knew we would run. They had to get the ball back. They failed to stop us. That's tough, hard-nosed football. As Fred Akers once said before an OU game, "Men, it's going to be tough out there. We're going to make it that way." Good days.
  11. And the voters, like all the other evil people in the world, are conspiring to keep down the shining city of virtue and manliness that is Texas A&M University.
  12. More Aggie fan fiction. No link is provided: Followed by the usual whining: They think their allegations about being founded first is why they're called little brother in the football context. And stupid delusions about their team: I bet none of them gives a shit.
  13. My God, the applause at the end of his idiotic proposal and lie about talking to some important guy from Austria is maybe worse than the idiocy. Free water flowing from the north to dampen our forests. Clearing all the dead trees, presumably with rakes. And the California fire was not a fucking forest fire, you imbecile. And then, applause. And we're accustomed to it. Fuck.
  14. It's become evident that the variables in what's coming with climate change make it too complicated for science to predict more than a fraction of the impact. Scientists are baffled by the diminished sea ice around Antarctica. That continent has also displayed temperature variations that are world records of increase in average temperature. Scientists guess it has to do with a change in direction of the wind. (Both of these stories I read in the NYT) The impact of wildfire smoke, the melting of the permafrost, and the undermining of a massive glacier on Antarctica are all things, as far as I can tell, were not anticipated by science. This isn't a failure of science; it's a statement about just how unknown our future is. One thing that should change is the way we refer to this catastrophic warming. "Climate change" doesn't at all capture what we're looking at. Climate Cataclysm is far more accurate. Sadly, we have to rely on journalists to adopt something new. This story should be covered as thought there is a giant army massing at our border with every intention of attacking us. Climate Cataclysm and the Threat to the Republic are the stories of the day. They're so big, editorial staffs can't get their minds around them. It's just easier to speculate about the presidential horserace (that isn't actually a horse race unless you cover it like one) or some other recurring story that involves minimal fresh thought.
  15. This is an interesting year. No team seems like a giant unstoppable force. This may be the best year for the playoff in a long time. I have a silly nervousnous about us being ranked so high. We deserve it, but it's such a quick reversal of fortune that it's dizzying. Enjoying the ride. Fearing the long ball.
  16. The Dems are weaponizing the law to prosecute criminals! This country is going to hell. Send money now to Donald Trump!
  17. You know your Aggie very well.
  18. Jail this law-flaunting malignant traitor now. NOW, goddamnit! Put him in a cell for at least week before even considering allowing him to wear an anklet and to go home where he'd have to stay.
