  1. One of the auction houses did a study on Python pricing and they could demonstrate on the graph when that show came out. The bump in interest and therefore value of vintage pythons spiked above the historic trend line and has remained there. Similar movements have happened in the mil-surp market when certain vintage weapons were featured in the shooter games.
  2. I've done the same. HOWA action and Houge overmolded stock and created lights out accurate hunting rifles for next to nothing. Their Mini-Action in 6.5 Grendel is a fantastic TX ranch rifle or truck gun. I got a 22-250 HOWA Axiom years back and it'll shoot the eyelashes off a coyote if you wanted to.
  3. I've been slowly replacing all mine with GreenGo stand-to-fill and I like them. I'm too old for the boat winch shit and the falls off the tailgate land differently these days. I ordered a trailer full of them and have slowly been getting them out. This season is my goal to be fully out of the winch or tailgate game.
  4. Decent Deals (Cursory look only - not vouching for the weapons) Beretta APX-A1 Beretta APX-A1 (There's a rebate too, making net @ $190) PSA Dagger PSA Dagger / Threaded FDE
  5. They're tough suckers. Not afraid to take a low brass 8.5 and keep right right on trucking. Taste pretty good too - flavor profile somewhere between red tailed hawk and whooping crane.
  6. Very nice! I just saw his post of your rifle. Beautiful!
  7. Human interaction takes effort. In the past, most people fought boredom by going out and doing things where they interacted with people and formed bonds. But, since we are inherently lazy, the internet, smart phone, and social media provided an alternative to putting forth the effort of getting out there in real life. The boredom issue is cured by the hypnotic nature of these devices and no effort has to be expended. The digital interactions however are only a placebo and don't fill the same voids that real personal contact does. We're left with empty people who can pretend they have a network and community, but that community is like a sugary calorie with no real nutrition for the mind, body and soul. It's freighting and sad to see people, especially adolescents, who sometimes appear in public as if they were a mole who has had a spotlight shown on them. Just coming out where real people are walking and talking and interaction appears to them like a sensory overload and they can't handle it.
  8. Bought a 1953 M70 Fwt. in .308 at auction up in Vermont. I bid online/absentee and got it for the low estimate which was my ceiling. Was pretty pleased with it at that price as it also still has the factory sights, plus has a vintage M8-4X Leupold and G&H quick-disconnect mounts. Even with buyers premium and shipping it was a good deal. Have never had this happen on the probably dozens of guns I've bought via live auction, but the house called me prior to shipping and said they had a couple of good customers who missed the auction and have asked to contact me to offer to buy it before it even shipped. Everything is always for sale, so I told him to send them my way, but I am going to take possession first. Winchester dropped the .308 on the market in '52, so this was one of the early rifles in this chambering to come off the line. Can't wait to see it.
  9. Ahhhhh.....The infamous, annual F.F.P. Invitational. We used to have one of those. (Feeder Fillin' Party)
  10. Pictures have started to roll in. Still sorting through them but the early returns are pretty good. Spin feeders have only been running for 4 days so I'm hoping to get some other less eager customers on film soon. Not shooting any mature bucks last year after that dismal spring was the right decision.
  11. SG Ammo doing some good with the new Winchester 25% rebate. I've seen them do this before, and they offer packages or amounts designed to squeeze every penny possible out of the offer Winchester puts out........even going so far as to include whatever UPC code is required and tape it to the containers on some of the stuff they package in cans. Winchester Rebate / SGAmmo.com
  12. Somebody ain't livin right. They need Jesus and to reevaluate their life choices. That, or hire a yard man.
  13. It’s an obvious oxymoron, but for a drunk like me there is power in surrender. As long as I fight “X” (booze, people, circumstances, whatever) I give X power. When I cease fighting, I take the air out of the ballon and am able to just be. Staying surrendered is what the steps, sponsorship, and service help me to achieve. Most guys like me were taught to fight harder, never give up, pick myself up and get back in the game. That serves me well until it doesn’t. Identifying when tenacity is positive trait and when it’s a character defect (and deadly) is a key to my program. Proper use of will power and the proper use of surrender are a delicate balancing act. I guess some people naturally have that skill. I have to surround myself with people to help me do that and stay in a program that constantly helps me get back on that thin beam of serenity in the face of both calamity and prosperity.
  14. That's always been fascinating to me. Through blood and marriage I only count five first cousins. I couldn't tell you their spouses' names nor their children's names. At times I've been insanely jealous over larger families. At other times and when I see dysfunction, I am grateful for my small circle. We all have different paths.
  15. That's pretty cool. I could not write down the names of 19 living relatives (even combining my wife's family)...much less cobble them together for a trip. Hats off to you for maintaining that bond.
  16. Walk right up and show him..."Can you believe I got this fake for $50 at the flea market? Looks pretty nice, right?" End of conversation.
  17. My watch comes off when I shower and when I sleep. Only comes off in the shower right now because I have a new leather band. Once the band gets a bit of age on it, I won't even bother with it then. Checking a phone for time during a meeting or even some social occasions can be distracting.
  18. Investors better get ahead of this, because as these guys hit mandatory retirement, they'll need a place to go.... Brings a new meaning to "The Villages" of Pakistan. Bingo night will just hit differently there in Sun City / Kandahar. .
  19. Listened to an interesting conversation / discussion focused on how we talk about mental illness - including alcoholism (and addiction). Specifically on the words we (society as a whole) use and how those words become engrained (even subconsciously) into our thinking about the disease. According to the speaker - Society says "He is an alcoholic." or "He is an addict." His point was that if we do actually consider them a disease, then mind-centered afflictions are the only diseases that redefines a person's identity. We don't say "He is cancer." or "He is Alzheimer's." People "have" cancer and other diseases, but alcoholism and addiction are referred to as an identity. The same hold true for Bi-Polar disorder and Schizophrenia. Joe IS bi-polar. Sally is schizophrenic. The thesis was that there would be more willingness to accept the diagnosis and more importantly the treatment if the party in question only had to accept having it rather than BEING it. Obviously, AA would refer to that as a 1st step problem. Very interesting take that I don't recall having heard before.
  20. @BearSchlong That is tragic and I am 100% sure you added comfort and peace to the situation for your family.
  21. I do have some good news for anyone struggling to quit or stay sane while quitting. There is a treatment that’s been proven basically 100% effective in a double blind study of several million alcoholics. The bad news, if you will, is it has to be used as a daily infusion at full strength to work at full efficacy and doesn’t work well in random or sporadic doses taken only to deter drinking on weekends and in times of stress. Relapse is proven to be non existent in those who use daily infusions at full strength exactly as prescribed. Unfortunately scientists haven’t yet found an alternative delivery method that works as well when taken only when the alcoholic thinks they need it or in doses of their choosing. The disease of alcoholism makes it tricky because the illness tells the victim not to continue the infusions and to try taking the treatment like an antacid before a spicy meal, but that doesn’t work well; making the disease itself such an efficient assassin.……insidious disease, but happy to report the full, genuine treatment is widely available. There is a 164 page report written in layman’s terms that provides PRECISE details on how to take the infusion and gives EXACT instructions on how to recover.
  22. Good luck! Should be a fun labor of love. One easy idea would be to wipe them down, clean off any new rust and catalog as you go with good high res photos of each piece that includes both sides and all factory markings. A good dealer or auction house could take a flash drive of that info and give you a rough valuation range by item , if nothing more than for insurance valuation. Some may charge for the service. Others will do it gratis for the enjoyment and the hope they earn your future business.
  23. You won’t hurt anything with a light wipe down of oil. Should be done regularly anyway. Patina is patina and shouldn’t be changed (to your point about blueing being out of the question.) If there is speckling of fresh rust, that should probably be cleaned off. Fine brass wool is softer than the finish / metal and will remove surface rust but leave finish / patina beneath. To the extent you’re comfortable doing that, you won’t hurt anything, but if ever in doubt, do no harm and get several opinions / offers to compare. Just like a major medical decision. Is the goal to sell or just clean up and store properly going forward?
  24. Yeah - what he said. Don’t “restore” anything. You can wipe them down and prevent further damage but refinishing is most often worse than doing nothing. Some very fine BRASS wool, gun oil, and a gentle hand can be used to remove small areas of new surface rust and prevent it from spreading but again, tread carefully and get some professional advice from multiple sources before you take any real action.
  25. ******Full credit to @BearSchlong for picking this out of the MAC tribute****** I probably would have missed that had you not stuck it under my nose. “One doesn’t teeter and totter without gaining some sense of where the fulcrum rests. To know that place and still transfer weight to one side, for any or all of the reasons, is its own burden. One I hope has been lifted.” Those simple sentences sum up a lifetime of this alcoholic's experience - both drunk and sober. Fulcrum - the point on which a lever rests. I thought a lot about this last night and this morning. That lever is my mind. That resting point is my peace and serenity. This disease still shifts my weight. The author is correct. That shifting of weight creates pain in and of itself, but equally as painful is the knowing; knowing where that calm is and for whatever reason not being able to stay there.
