  1. He did not have a great night passing. Hit a couple. But he ran for like 250 yards at ten per carry. We could not stop him. We were lucky they decided to throw late because at a minimum, they could have tied it with a field goal. Instead he tosses a pick to Vasher. Typical soul crushing loss to Texas by Nebraska. No matter which team was a lot better, I think every game save 2003 was close. And Texas would win in some weird way. I loved beating them.
  2. That is no surprise at all. Seems like he has never generated any positive buzz since signing day.
  3. Tech has minted more than a few billionaires and hundred millionaire types from the Midland Basin in the last 10 years. I don't think OU has those types. Some of the Texas Tech billionaires I know personally focus more on politics than sports. But Sellers and Campbell certainly love their sports.
  4. I think there are 5 teams in the SEC that can be regular national title contenders -- Texas, LSU, Georgia, Alabama, and Florida. I just do not see Alabama falling off unless they hire a terrible coach. They hired a very good one post Saban. OU, Tennessee, A&M, and Auburn are your second tier. Ole Miss kind of is to as long as they have Lane and are willing to push their chips in on portal every few years.
  5. He has really redeemed himself. He was basically Lattimer from the Program at OU. I love a redemption story, so I kind of like the guy now. He is also pretty good at his job in an industry where so many just mail it in.
  6. Joyner was going to be their most explosive player on offense. Really sucks for them. I have always pulled for Tech because I have a lot of West Texas roots. Kind of my (distant) second favorite team. I got annoyed with their fans during the Leach years always bitching about officiating despite their OL being allowed to hold our front 7 with impunity -- 2008 being the worst when that scrub who was a wannabe WWE wrestler with face paint was allowed to wrap his arms around the neck of Orakpo and Kindle all night long. And the one holding call that night was a bad call against Ulatoski when the DE basically lost his balance, and it directly led to the pick 6 by Colt to Daniel Charbonnet.
  7. It was a pretty bad Nebraska team. They went 7-7. Defense let us down a bit. But Lord was a pretty damn good college QB, especially that season when he ran for 1500 yards. He had a career night against us. Offense played very well that night. Passing game really worked. Simms would either throw it to Roy Williams if he was open or check it down to Ivan Williams, who murdered them that night.
  8. Venables has two losing seasons in 3 years. He doesn’t recruit well. I wouldn’t be optimistic if I was them. Maybe arbuckle is a savant and mateer is great. If so, they will still lose at least 4.
  9. Motown -- You should read your posts back to yourself and think about it.
  10. I was in Whitefish June and most of July. Aspen last week of July and first week of August. My days of spending summers in Texas are winding down. Over the last 15 years I have spent more and more of summer in the mountains and now have a place in Whitefish. Had to get back last week due to kids' school starting. Once there is no more school (5 more years), I will be in Montana May to October. Remote work FTW.
  11. There were other issues also that were mentioned. USC had beaten Auburn the previous season 23-0 at Auburn. And Auburn played a pathetic nonconference of ULM, The Citadel, and La Tech. While USC played #9 Virginia Tech in DC (winning by 11), BYU, and Bowling Green. They had one common opponent. Auburn beat Va Tech in Sugar Bowl by 3. USC beat same team by 11 in DC.
  12. Kirby much preferred the day when a Dodge Challenger and $50k to a street agent could get the top guy in state.
  13. Are they selling Elko’s moo moo?
  14. I used to be relatively quick. And since I replaced booze addiction with a working out addiction four years ago, I am in good shape. My 14 year old daughter is fast -- runs track and is good at it. I still thought I could beat her in a 100 yard dash so we raced a couple months ago on a track. Nope. She smoked my ass easily. Was humbling.
  15. Nussmeier at 3? He's JAG.
  16. He was everyone's favorite. One of the funniest men I ever met. He loved drinking his warm Lone Star beer.
  17. I bet I knew him. The staff was pretty small and most were NCOs. One of the reasons the school got into some trouble in the late 90s. Not enough adult supervision. Yeah, none of them talked about killing. Though most probably did as every Marine is a rifleman. They talked about the history. And they talked about the tough conditions. But not about blood and gore stuff. There was a black vet there named Sgt Major Lee, who was kind of in charge of security. Rumor was he had a massive kill count in Viet Nam. But that may have just been rumors made up by high school kids.
  18. It's more than that. We only have rivalries with three teams. In the Big 12, even when we sucked, every school wanted to kick sand in our face more than any other opponent (well Okie State would rather beat OU, but that's the only one).
  19. Yep. The SEC in 2004 was not the SEC of today. Not even close. Meyer and Saban made the conference the force it is with those Florida (briefly before Meyer burned up) and Alabama teams. The SEC had four ranked teams in 2004. Auburn barely beat #10 Virginia Tech in their bowl game. USC handled Va Tech with ease on the road. Auburn played a joke nonconference schedule. Louisiana Tech, Citadel, Louisiana Monroe. No one at the time thought anything other than OU and USC were the two titans of college football that year. This idea the SEC was some juggernaut in 2004 is just false and revisionist history. Auburn has two real titles, right? 2010 and one in the 50s? National titles since AP came out in 1936 are really simple. AP/UPI #1 prior to BCS = national title WInning BCS title game = national title Winning playoff = national title.
  20. CTJ needs to challenge Lehman to a foot race
  21. I went to military school for a couple years in high school (early 90s in Harlingen). My freshman English teacher was an old German who was in the Hitler youth. Mr. Graf. He had some interesting stories. He said pretty much every German teen had to join the Hitler Youth (boys -- the girls had a companion organization. Listening to him talk about pre-war rise of Nazis, war, and post-war Germany was very interesting. He lived in a rural town in Bavaria. He was not commissioned to fight like some Hitler youth were at the end because he worked on his family farm in the countryside of southern Germany. Almost all the Marines who ran the place were combat veterans. Mostly Korea and Vietnam. We had several older staff who were World War II vets and fought all over the Pacific. I loved talking to them about the war. They were proud of their service and would talk in detail about the campaigns they fought, without getting into the nightmarish parts. They all faced very tough battle conditions regardless of war. One was a vet of both WWII and Korea. He said Guadalcanal and Chosin reservoir were the worst conditions imaginable. The old Marines taught us history and it was very heavy on Marine Corps battles.
  22. One of the best things about the move to the sec is now we have only three conference teams who want to beat us more than any other team on their schedule and will focus and prepare accordingly. In the Big 12 it was 9 teams a year. And it made our schedule more difficult than it appeared on paper.
  23. Yep. I was in the south end suite area for Kentucky game. He was there. He isn’t near big enough. He needs time to cook.
