I don't have the same kind of vitriol for movie (or TV) adaptations that don't adhere directly to the book, because the medium is totally different
Same for video games.
I like 1-to-1 adaptations if done really well (Fallout, LOTR, GOT before they ran out of material), I don't mind changes if they have to be done to make it more adaptable (Foundation is a good one, but also The Expanse, as they combined a bunch of characters into one). Some other really good adaptations are The Hunger Games movies (except the most recent one, it sucked), The Martian. Can't wait to see Project Hail Mary.
But I hate when they just completely ruin the source material (World War Z, The Dark Tower movie) or just do a crappy job (the later HP movies skipped a lot of the meat or added in fluff that didn't exist, the unfinished Percy Jackson movies sucked, they never bothered to finish the Narnia movies)
Some of them are getting new versions, so that's nice - the Percy Jackson tv series that is now in season 2 and the upcoming Harry Potter HBO series. Dark Tower needs to be less Mike Flanagan talking about it and more Mike Flanagan doing it. The BBC/HBO version of The Golden Compass was pretty good.
The Zelda movie, God of War TV show, Horizon TV show - we will see.
