  1. One thing to keep in mind if you decide to stay at the Roosevelt is that even though you'll only be 5 or 6 miles from the LA Country Club as the crow flies, it will take probably anywhere between 25 to 45 minutes (depending on the time of day) to drive to the LACC from the hotel because traffic will be bad. Sunset Blvd. and Santa Monica Blvd., which are the two main arteries running between Hollyweird and Beverly Hills, both get backed up, esp. during rush hours.
  2. The ref crew that called zero penalties on okie lite for the entire game certainly was a factor.
  3. Thanks for the rec on Hell's Backbone Grill. I've been reading up on it. So as I indicated in my post above, if we do the Burr Trail on day 2 in Capitol Reef, the plan is to run it east-to-west so that we hit Boulder and can grab a meal at Hell's Backbone Grill. The Burr Trail Grill is our Plan B in case there's any issue with getting in at Hell's Backbone Grill. We're skipping Bryce and Zion because the wife and I have visited both of those parks previously. Capitol Reef and Canyonlands were the two NPs in Utah that neither of us had seen, so that's why we decided to hit those two particular parks. We initially weren't going to go to Arches since the wife had already visited it once before about 10 years ago, but she enjoyed the park so much and it's so close to Moab that we decided to spend a day there. So now we're doing 2 days in Canyonlands and 1 in Arches, instead of 3 in Canyonlands.
  4. Necrobump b/c the wife (no pics) and I will be hitting three of the Utah NPs in mid-May, so we're starting to plan. Staying in the Torrey area for the first three nights when we'll see Capitol Reef NP. Then Moab for 4 nights. The tentative plan is to hit Arches one day and then spend two exploring Canyonlands. Need suggestions re: things to do in each park, hikes, places to eat, breweries, etc. We'll have the Bronco, so no issues with going offroad. Tentative itinerary: Day 1: Drive from SoCal to Torrey area. Day 2: Capitol Reef "Fruita" area; Visitors Center; Gifford Homestead; Fruita Schoolhouse; Scenic Drive, etc. -- need suggestions on hikes. Thinking of Hickman Bridge, Cassidy Arch and/or, Capitol Gorge during the day. Goosenecks/Sunset Point at sunset. Day 3: Trying to decide between two options. Option #1 = Notom/Bullfrog road down to Waterpocket Fold, then west on Burr Trail up the switchbacks and across the park into Boulder. Dinner at either Hell's Backbone Grill or the Burr Trail Grill, and then drive Highway 12 north to Torrey. Option #2 - the Cathedral Valley Loop in the northern part of the park. Thoughts? For those who have done both or either, let me know what you think. Day 4: Travel from Torrey to Moab. Stop at Goblin Valley State Park on the way and (time permitting) maybe hike some of the Little Wild Horse slot canyon near Goblin Valley. Other suggestions? Day 5: Arches -- try to take in as much as we can in one day. The wife has already been to Arches once. This will be the first time for me. We will be there mid-week (and before a lot of schools let out for the summer), so hopefully the crowds won't be terrible. Need suggestions re: "must-sees" in the park and dinner places in Moab. Day 6: Canyonlands -- Island in the Sky District. Trying to work out the details. Definitely interested in the Shafer Trail, driving the Grandview Point road, Dead Horse Point, Gooseneck Overlook, Potash Road, Mesa Arch, White Rim overlook hike, etc. Thoughts/suggestions? Day 7: Second day in Canyonlands. At this point, I'm wide open. Not sure if we'll need more time in Island in the Sky district or go to another part of the park. Definitely open to suggestions re: how to fill this day. Day 8: Drive part-way home. Overnight in Vegas. Hit Lotus of Siam and the blackjack tables. Day 9: Finish drive home.
  5. I thought he did a good job of playing an asshole in The Way Way Back.
  6. There are a ton of hotels in that general area, most of which will be exorbitant. You might try looking at VRBO or Airbnb to grab something a bit cheaper in that area.
  7. Came here to post the same thing. Fonda completely played against type in that role, and it was one of really notable times in Hollywood history. (But based on his private life, it might not have been a huge stretch for him.)
  8. That was me. Was working at a downtown LA law firm at the time. It was a weekend day, and I had a motion or something that had to be done by Monday, so I had driven downtown to get some of it done. (This was the pre- working remotely era. If you needed to get office work done, you pretty much had to go into the office.) Was walking to grab something to eat when they let loose with a huge fusillade of gunfire you could hear from blocks away. I saw a couple other people on the sidewalk either duck into doorways or turn around and head in the other direction. We were all wondering what the hell was going on.
  9. Helluva kick. 11-0 in one-score games. Wow
  10. Translation: This is a guy with no juice who Jimbo can ignore so that JImbo can keep control of the offense but tell everyone calling for his head that he has turned the offensive playcalling duties over to someone else.
  11. Never ever underestimate aggy delusion.
  12. Looch ladling out the maroon koolaid extra heavy for his sycophants. I am greatly amused.
  13. Way too young. The Specials' first two albums are ska/2-tone classics.
  14. You are correct, sir. I don't plan on doing serious rock-crawling, so I decided I didn't need the Sasquatch package. Badlands trim still gives me front and rear lockers, disco swaybar, KO2's, and a better suspension than most of the other trims, so it has about all the off-road capability I think I'll need.
  15. The only thing "being worked hard" is her dog's tongue.
  16. Maybe he was trying to comment about foolish consistencies.
  17. Eh. I actually have no problem believing that he was thinking of "bug-a-boo" in the context of what he was trying to say. Much ado about not much, IMO.
  18. The wife (no pics) went there several years ago with her daughter (also no pics), and loved it. Someday I will make it there. Your pics are only fueling the fire.
