  1. I’m in awe of just about any good to great guitar player. I mean it. Playing even moderately well is impressive to me. But I have devised my own scale for how to rank the very best. It’s a an algorithmic formula based on how many times I audibly utter “holy shit,” “got damn,” or “Jesus Christ” when I listen to them play. Based on this formula my rankings of the top 200 are as follows: 1. SRV 200(T). Everyone else.
  2. I haven’t looked down that far, but I’m probably #177 by this criteria. I want to thank all my fans!
  3. Ugh, I kick myself that I ever got rid of mine! (The poster that was in my room, I mean).
  4. George Costanza: “That’s pie country. They do a lot of baking up there.” Jerry Seinfeld: “They sell them by the side of the road. Blueberry blackberry.” George: “Blackberry boysenberry.” Jerry: “Boysenberry huckleberry.” George: “Huckleberry raspberry.” Jerry: “Raspberry strawberry.” George: “Strawberry cranberry.” Jerry: “Peach.”
  5. Going back to that chili queens recipe, what would an easy substitute be for that half cup (!) of fat? For “starter fat” I typically fry up bacon (and set aside the bacon) or chorizo (will leave in chili) and then brown the beef and keep a little bit of that fat. But it’s never amounted to that much before.
  6. Black Keys maybe? It’s a good question. And I love Jack and the Stripes but I think the inventiveness was in the writing moreso than strictly the guitar-ness of it. But he’s a great player. The rest of the list is just a big whatever. Agree that Vince Gill and Knopfler are too low. SRV is a big LOL. Everyone else, I couldn’t care less.
  7. Ummmm. That’snothowanyofthisworks.gif. The correct response is: “NGD coming [insert date].”
  8. These answers are kinda begging two questions though. Is it about being a singular guitar great - like SRV, Page, Hendrix, Eddie, even Leo Kottke or Gibbons? Or being a great part of a band - like Mike Campbell, Joe Walsh, the Cars guy…. or even, like, Matthew Sweet. Of course, I’d like to have been born as Stevie. But there was and will only ever be one of him and it ain’t me. Whereas I feel like I could aspire to play and contribute like a Mike Campbell. Disclaimer: I’d kill to play more than just cowboy chords, so this is all very hypothetical in my world.
  9. Should we be talking about this?
  10. Just outta the blue?! Now, THAT is how you NGD! Beautiful.
  11. This is all really, really helpful. And it's amazing after all these years, how little I know or, tellingly, ever knew when I would be in recording situations. Very often my role was: play drums, leave, maybe come back for tracking or overdubs, leave, then come back and listen and have a lot of drinks and smokes (back in the day). If I were making anything to put out in the world, I would definitely outsource mixing and mastering - no question. (Frankly, I find it hard to imagine having a home setup sufficient for recording, much less finishing anything... but one step at a time.) Sidis, you nailed it. I'm right there with you. Generally, I just want some process or tools to take the average tracks I'm laying down and making them sound a little more polished. Even when I do it at the most amateur level, I end up just cranking it all up (a la, G650 comment above). So, for now, all of my "sharing" is with a few friends, family, and you knuckleheads. Oh, and my workshop/class group. As such, I'm really looking for the easiest way to take a GB or Logic project and run it through a black box and have it come out slightly better for listening to at least - all just to be able to hear what ideas start to sound like in draft form but slightly less shitty. Secondarily, I'm interested in becoming more familiar with all of it - again just at the "for fun" level - so something like Ozone might be a fun step up. I'm just so blown away - and slightly jealous - at how amazing you guys are at making music that is then shareable and sounds better than in just the playing stage, while I'm still pounding away with my Neanderthal knuckles in GarageBand (and trying not to beat myself up too much).
  12. FORWARD LOOK VERSE 1 I’m not sure why. Maybe Time passed me by. Surrounded by screens. No one says anything. It’s getting hard to tell what is true. What is real and who is who. A chaotic symphony. Screaming hey hey look at me. BRIDGE Between the truth and what we see. Is blurring faster, it’s scaring me CHORUS I’ve started thinking ahead. Words and words and nothing said. Took a forward look. Took a forward look. Going back to just me being me. What you get is what you see. VERSE 2 Anyone can say anything. Without saying a thing. Get noticed no matter the cost. Most the time, I feel like I’m lost. But it’s dawned on me now. Staying always-on is getting me down. So I’m looking up and looking around. Logging off and touching the ground. BRIDGE Between the truth and what we see. Is blurring faster, it’s scaring me CHORUS I’ve started thinking ahead. Words and words and nothing said. Took a forward look. Took a forward look. Going back to just me being me. What you get is what you see. VERSE 3 Clicks and tricks mean nothing at all. Make it big or keep feeling small. But I only need attention from you. I never cared about breaking through. No one has to keep up the pace. Walking versus winning the race. Feet on the ground face to face. I went from crazy to the quietest place. BRIDGE Between the truth and what we see. Is blurring faster, it’s scaring me CHORUS I’ve started thinking ahead. Words and words and nothing said. Took a forward look. Took a forward look. Going back to just me being me. What you get is what you see.
  13. Love it, Buck! And thanks for the replies above. Still lots to learn and appreciate all the help here and in the song group. On a related note, here's a draft of the song I'm working on for this workshop I'm doing here locally. As I mentioned, I'm forcing myself to have distinct songs for each group so they're all a little less polished until I get some more spare time. This one in particular has a couple of edit blips (drums) and both my guitar and my singing are a little strained as it was a single take. Also, I need to get a proper drum mic setup - this is just a Shure SM58 sitting at about cymbal height in front. But what the hell.... welcome any thoughts or feedback!
  14. One quick question as a follow up: are any of you guys using an online/ai mastering tool (eMaster, Landr, Bandlab, etc)? I have SoundCloud Next Pro, but not thrilled so far and their online purchase process is unreliable. I’m finishing up a new track that I did for the workshop I’m doing - in conjunction with the monthly “email” group, I promised myself I wouldn’t use those tracks for class and vice versa. So I have a new one in the chamber that I’ll share shortly.
  15. Isn’t this shitfuck supposed to be gagged? As long as he doesn’t mention the court administrators he can say any other garbage he wants?
  16. Ditto. I’ve got $9.95 for Sidis for any tips and tricks!
  17. Those look more like Jayhawk hearts and they look damn delicious.
