  1. His composite issue lies in the Rivals OU bias. March 1 McCutching decommits from Alabama and silents to OU. He tells the OU staff that he will get Mukuba to commit as well. In this time period Mukuba's ranking goes from 64 in the state to 43 in the state on May 13th. Mukuba released a top 12 list on May 19th and did not include the Sooners. The next time that Rivals updated their rankings he fell to 56 in the state, unranked nationally. 247 has him as a 91 overall - 214 in the country. He started as an 85. ESPN has him as 33 in the state (194 in the country) and 83 overall (the same overall grade as Foster, Blackshire, Ketron, Quay, etc) a single point bump could move him as high as 15. I am bullish on Mukuba and think he should be a top 10-15 guy. So I think they all have him undervalued but it's Ferrell and Rivals that are doing him the biggest disservice and it's clear why. Fuck that guy.
  2. Anyway with our DTs on the roster, I would be happy with Regis or Turner but I see no reason to reach. We are kind of stacked. LB still isn't where it needs to be. DB is pretty stacked but you can never have enough cover corners. WR is pretty good but could be improved. TE is pretty good and young but could be improved. Helm and Davis should fill the minor void. RB is stacked and with LJ we couldn't ask for more. QB is stacked. OL needs a strong recruiting class and we are whiffing on OTs. All of our offers lately seem like reaches. Beating a dead horse, but it seems to be our weak link and will IMO require grad transfers to have a starting 5 to compete on the national stage.
  3. The critical Juan Davis content this board needs
  4. I think LSU will get Davis if they don’t get Ryan. PSU is really struggling in recruiting rn, and I’ve seen them lose a lot PGH area guys to other schools over the past decade when they should have landed about half of them.
  5. Fucking Nahlin. that's some lazy ass shit. He surely just looked at the Clemson S offers and was like "Clemson will pull in Ryan or Davis who are both ranked higher than Mukuba. Because: Clemson". I guess Nahlin could be right in the end because: Clemson. I would be stunned if Ryan didn't end up at LSU and if he didn't end up at LSU it would be Bama. Davis is a tOSU vs. PSU battle. Mukuba is Texas vs. Clemson. I don't doubt Dabo and his staff but they aren't simply plucking Ryan or Davis away and are running 3rd for both.
  6. Yeah Mukuba is pretty much the lone target for Clemson, and they're pitching it that way to him. I think if they miss on Mukuba, they will just address Safety next class. They've backed off Davis and I don't think anyone really considers Clemson a player for Ryan.
  7. I don't know what their number is for 2021 ( @Doc Sam Beckett might know??) but they only have 15 commits and 0 S. They only have 9 S offers out and 3 of them are uncommitted. (Ryan, Mukuba, and Davis). So go ahead and assume they will be on him to the very end. they did sign 3 S in 2020.
  8. Didn't see this before but Juan Davis is not just a set of flypaper hands on a 6'4" frame ::
  9. https://247sports.com/college/texas/Article/Jay-Valai-Chris-Ash-Big-12-recruiter-rankings-247Sports-recruiter-rankings-150750905/ Valai and Ash remain at the top of Big 12 recruiter rankings ByMIKE ROACH 3 hours ago As the 2021 class heads into the fall, two members of the Texas staff stand out as impact recruiters. Texas cornerbacks coach Jay Valai has been a whirlwind of energy since he arrived in Austin, and it’s paying off on the recruiting front. Valai currently ranks at No. 25 in the nation, according to the 247Sports Recruiting Rankings. Valai also ranks at No. 1 in the Big 12 with four commits charged to his tab. Valai has wins as the primary recruiter for four-star Denton Ryan ATH Billy Bowman and four-star Dallas Kimball cornerback Ishmael Ibraheem. He’s also credited as the secondary recruiter for four-star Kennedale safety JD Coffey and four-star Pasadena (Calif.) John Muir cornerback Jamier Johnson. Valai’s 59.37 points and 93.84 average rating both rank tops in the Big 12 conference with Oklahoma cornerbacks coach Roy Manning trailing him in second place. As the D-FW area recruiter, Valai is also in on players like Shemar Turner. As the secondary coach recruiter for Andrew Mukuba, he could still score more points if the Longhorns can sign the Austin LBJ safety. Chris Ash isn’t far behind Valai in the Big 12 recruiter rankings. As the primary recruiter for JD Coffey and Jamier Johnson and the secondary recruiter for Ishmael Ibraheem and Morice Blackwell, Ash is right on Manning’s heels as the No. 3 recruiter in conference. Ash ranks No. 56 nationally, and he is still in the game for several prospects on the board. Ash is probably a bit shortchanged in the rankings, because his active recruiting style could make him the secondary recruiter for most of the defensive prospects Texas is recruiting. Ash is also intricately involved for Terrence Cooks, Andrew Mukuba, Shemar Turner, Jaydon Williams, Ikechukwu Iwunnah and Albert Regis. Elsewhere in the conference, Texas linebackers coach Coleman Hutzler checks in at No. 18 in the Big 12 with 2 commitments from Derrick Harris Jr. and Morice Blackwell. Hutzler could still cash in on Cooks and Williams as well. Herb Hand and Andre Coleman check in at No. 29 and No. 30 respectively in the conference. Coleman still has some targets on the board that could elevate his ranking while Hand has the opportunity to add one or two more prospects to his tally. Texas tight ends coach Jay Boulware comes in at No. 36 in the Big 12 with commitments from Juan Davis and Gunnar Helm. Stan Drayton checks in at No. 47 in the conference with one commitment from Hallettsville RB Jonathon Brooks. Drayton is still in the hunt and could be considered a favorite for Cy-Fair running back LJ Johnson Jr. If he can cash in there, his cycle would be considered a success in this cycle.
  10. Greg Davis was a bold choice. Usually somebody has to lose a bet for that to happen.
  11. Not really. We have a 4 star average Still. We’ve got a few pieces of bread, but guys like Alexis, Helm, and Davis are all very high upside takes. Plus we still have some highly rated targets, like the the 2 RBs, Turner, and probably Cooks and Regis once sites update their rankings. Milroe staying in obviously would’ve helped, but we lost him for a good reason and he probably would’ve transferred anyways. Taking someone like Wright is a good move. We need QB depth and the only way to have that is taking a guy like him in between two elite classes. Parts of the class are disappointing, but it’s still going to be a good class overall and it won’t hold Herman back from having the talent to make the CFP.
  12. Our current class now has eight (8) 3*'s with 1 being the punter. 2019 class actually had nine (9) 3*'s. 3 of those 9 have already contributed in Sweat (stud), Wiley, and Mitchell. Some are still TBD like Tillman, Lewis, Caldwell, and Tyler. Caleb Johnson is gone and Mpagi may never play again. Hopefully we hit in 3-4 of those 7 (and punter) like with the 19' class. If say JoJo ends up flipping do ya'll think Cain would look around, especially if those 22' guys start hopping on board? I'm going with Alexis, Myslinski, and Davis as being the guys that'll start/contribute.
  13. What are our options if Milroe decommits? Obviously this isn't my preference, but just trying understand the implications. I assume we'll reach back out to Nussmeier and Robertson to see if being the only QB in the class might change things for them. Behren Morton and Kyron Drones will probably get longer looks as well. Personally don't think Kaidon Salter, Demetrious Davis, and Preston Stone are worth circling back to at this point. Any chance we take another run at USC commit Jake Garcia? With Miller Moss also committed to USC, he might be worth kicking the tires on. He showed some interest in Texas early and even visited if memory serves.
  14. I can't imagine we'd change our policies and welcome home Quay. And I can't imagine us trying to recruit Arroyo through the whistle after we signed Helm.
  15. The timing of the Carrington tweet ... if it is a big recruit committed to another school, - JoJo/Quay/Teddy ? - Clayton? - Landon? .... - Elijah Arroyo??
  16. 100% Alexis and Davis are the 3-star commits who are being hurt by no camps. Alexis has elite speed and Davis has elite hands. The rest of the 3 star commits are 3 star commits. Cooks and Regis are 3-star targets we probably lead for who should definitely be 4-stars though. The ratings this year are probably going to stink due to everything that’s going on.
  17. Not really. Alexis and Davis are awesome gets, but most of the other 3-stars are correctly rated. Doesn't mean they can't be good gets - guys like Helm and Myslinski have really useful skillsets. Brooks could be good, he plays against miniature school opposition so we'll see how he steps up. Cain... well Yurcich sees something there, so hopefully it works out.
  18. oh my god, their QB rankings are going to have some people to have a coronary 64 - Kaidon Salters (Tenn) 50 - Drones (Baylor) 49 - Lucas Coley (Arky) 44 - Jalen Kitna (FLA) 42 - Eli Stowers (listed as QB/ATH) (A&M) 37 - Behren Morton (TTU) 20 - Nussmeier (LSU) 18 - Preston Stone (SMU) 15 - D. Davis (Auburn) 12 - Sawyer Robinson (Miss State) 10 - M I L R O E
  19. What is the whole story on Quay? Closed book?
  20. If we land Jacksom, who has Coleman missed on other than JoJo and Knox? Quay would be recomitted already if he didn't have the off-field baggage that Herman won't take his commitment. Cain seems like more of Yurcich eval/take.
  21. We've talked about if before but it's wild that Texas of all states could have a WR class that's just meh. Even the top 5 of the position starts getting wobbly after Earle and Davis.
  22. I think Conner is outstanding and if Alexis joins the class he is as well. Conner's fall on 247 is absurd, esp considering his fall vs. Foster's rise and yes I am aware of Foster's upside and potential but if you watch those guys play Conner is a far better football player. Outside of that, the offensive class is going to lean heavily on evals. Very. Heavily. Davis, Cain, Brooks, Helm. Any other take, outside of the Camar/LJ Johnson will lean on eval. The interesting thing is that when I look at the offensive players in the top 50 in Texas there's very few guys outside of JoJo and Tommy Brockermeyer that make me feel like "oh man, Texas missed on that one." I guess Quay would qualify but the idea that you could keep his head straight and stay that way for 3 years seems really unlikely. Outside of that it's a collection of guys I feel meh or worse about (like Byrd, Fatheree, Sturdivant, Banks). a shit ton of QBs when we already have Milroe and only one of those QBs that gives me pause, Kyron Drones.
  23. It’s different, he had the voice of GoD (Greg Davis) coming down from the sky.
  24. A'Shawn Robinson was also heinous. IIRC, our DT corch was Bo Davis at the time. The story goes Robinson and his mother asked Davis with help filling out his NLI to Bama. EDIT: It just so happened that Bo Davis went back to Bama and ended up coaching A'Shawn. <sigh>
