This is fantastic.

It reminds me of my favorite club song of all time.

I think the dj from Jurassic 5 went on to do a bunch of club and dance stuff. Similar lines/vibe/tempo on that track for sure.

I love stuff with that feel to block out distractions while I work. I guess that’s boom bap? DJ Shadow, Alchemist, all that classic 90s and 2000s stuff, anything else I should be digging into?

It's interesting. It was giving mid-career Kanye vibes.

Haha. That genre is called rage. Kicked off in large part by guys like Playboi Carti and Trippie Redd. I'm sure Kanye dipped his toes a bit and/or inspired it to some degree. Carti himself is probably the most influential guy since Ye.

It's one of the bigger/more creative genre breaks within a genre in music history. A bit like grunge around 1990 separating itself from whatever rock was at that point. Much more atmospheric and beat-focused and less concerned with lyricism. And not in a bad way necessarily although I get both the appeal and lack of.

The last Joey album didn't do a lot for me, but I loved the two prior to that. I like this one, too. Didn't even realize he had a new album out.

I adore Joey. All Amerikkan Badass is one of the most underappreciated albums of all time.

I know almost next to nothing about Joey except that somehow, out of 7 fully grown men and some living legends, as a baby rapper he had the best verse on 1 train. That got my attention but then it obviously faded. I'm an old man with little free time.

37 year old song that I somehow never heard until the other day.  From that brief era of rap when you could put all the samples you wanted in a song without consequences.

I have Danny as the best verse on 1 Train.

Not really any bad options, though.
