Texas Women's Basketball 2021-2022 - "Vic's Got It Going!!"

Texas has only had 6 seasons in the 2000s with single digit losses: 6 in 2002-03 (Final Four Team), 5 in 2003-04 (Sweet 16), 9 in 2004-05 (Second Round), 5 in 2015-16 (Elite 8), 9 in 2016-2017 (Sweet 16) and 7 in 2017-18 (Sweet 16).

We will finish the season with 6-8 losses (6 if we never lose again lol; 7 if we win the Big 12 tournament; 8 if/when we lose in both the Big 12 and NCAA tournament).  8 losses would be our 3rd fewest losses in a season since in 17 years.

Texas is currently at 12 scholarship players with Chevalier's departure and 3 seniors (Ebo, JAT, Warren).  We are bringing in 3 freshman (Codio, Jak and Muhammad).

If all 3 came back (they all won't), Texas would be at the max (15) assuming no other transfers out and no open 'ships for anyone to come in via the portal.

If Texas is going to land Rickea Jackson (good possibility), 2 of the 3 seniors could come back to put us at 15.  We cannot exceed the 15 scholarship limit after this season, as it was a one season exception for 2021-22.

Personally, I'd bring back Ebo if she expresses a desire, but JAT and Warren will likely move on.  Warren for her health and JAT because she has a legit career coming up in engineering.

Bring back Ebo + land Rickea Jackson + find a grad transfer PG looking for Texas to pay for her master's degree for a year (Texas is at the max pending no current players transfer out)
No seniors come back + land Rickea Jackson + find a grad transfer PG + 1 open ship for whatever Vic wants to do with it

I think Allen-Taylor may return. She’s participating on SR day but if you read her and Schaefer’s comments it makes it sound like she’s far from decided on the next move.

A starting 5 of Harmon, JAT, Rickea Jason, Moore and Gaston would be really really nice.

No offense to Holle because she's great, but RJ does everything better than Holle does, is 6'2 and can score the ball.

I’d bet against it.  She will have an engineering degree and is graduating into a hot job market. There are some unbelievable (or so I would have thought a few years ago) opportunities out there for new grads right now.

Tomorrows game is essentially a fundraiser at this point lol

Texas averages 2757 per game this year at home.  Our high water mark is 5300 when Baylor came to town.

Props to Vic for going the extra 100 miles to more than double that number.

10k would not be a top 15 crowd in WBB history at Texas, but Texas has struggled to top 10k since the 90s - 12,474 in 2004 versus Tech and 11,877 versus UConn in 2018 were the highest in the past 22 years.

If I wasn't reffing my game....dammit!

Texas should put 1000 seats up for $1 each and let someone buy them and fill them with local youth players from every level that aren’t in the playoffs. I know it’s not a mid day field trip but get those butts in there

I hope the tix were purchased with intent to be used. Would be a serious letdown for the girls to think they will have a crowd of 10k only to walk out to 2 or 5 k.

City of Austin with an assist moving to Covid stage 2 today.

Unlike some other recent teams, this team is fun to watch and the product should sell itself as people get to see it.

I didn't follow it closely, but they were soooo bad.

It was.  Just puzzling she left so quickly for that job and it didn't work out.  She'll land somewhere as an AC.

Rhyne Howard's 30pts tonight for Kentucky probably helps Lsu not drop down a seed level...

between LSU and Michigan both losing early in their conference tournaments, Texas should move up a seed line if they win tomorrow and grab the Big 12 tournament opener  100% if we reach the finals

• SERIES: Texas leads, 40-16. Last meeting: Texas 62-51 (Jan. 2 , 2022; Stillwater).

LEADING IN: The No. 9/10 Texas Women's Basketball team will gear up for its final game of the 2021-22 regular season Saturday afternoon as they play host to Oklahoma State on Senior Day inside the Frank Erwin Center. The Longhorns are riding a seven-game win streak entering Saturday's tilt and are coming off of a 70-60 victory at Kansas on Wednesday. The Cowgirls enter play on a four-game losing streak and are coming off of a 79-76 loss to Oklahoma on Wednesday.

THE SERIES: Texas and OSU will meet for the 57th time overall on Saturday. The Longhorns own a 40-16 advantage over the Cowgirls in the all-time series and are 9-1 in their last 10 meetings. Texas defeated OSU 62-51 in their first meeting of the season in Stillwater (Jan. 2).

DOWN THE STRETCH: With the Big 12 Conference Regular Season Title out of the equation, the Longhorns are aiming to position themselves among the top-seeds in next week's Big 12 Conference Championship in Kansas City.

Texas can finish no lower than the No.4 seed but has a chance to enter the tournament as the No. 2 overall seed with a victory over the Cowgirls on Saturday and an Iowa State loss at West Virginia.

SCENARIO BREAKDOWN:
 •    Texas gets the 2-seed in the event of either a 2-way tie for 2nd with Iowa State or a 3-way tie for 2nd including OU.
 •    Texas is 2-0 against Iowa State and 1-1 against OU
 •    ISU is 2-0 against OU and 0-2 against Texas
 •    OU is 1-1 against Texas and 0-2 against ISU

FINAL TOP 16 PROJECTIONS ANNOUNCED: The NCAA Division I Women's Basketball selection committee released its final projections for the top 16 seeds for 2022 NCAA Championships on Monday  with Texas being projected as the No. 10 overall seed in the tournament.

The Longhorns were paired in the Spokane Region as the No. 3 seed along with No. 1 Stanford, No. 2 LSU and No. 4 Indiana. South Carolina earned the top overall seed with Stanford, N.C. State and Louisville holding the other regional No.1 seed spots.

THE SCHAEFER FORMULA: Longhorn head coach Vic Schaefer makes no secret in the way his teams have found success over the years. Relentless full court defensive pressure, attention to detail, and limiting turnovers and mistakes have been built in to the identity of his programs. The 2021-22 Longhorns are no different ranking among the best in the country in several defensive categories.  UT currently ranks No. 1 in the Big 12 and No. 32 in the NCAA holding opponents to just 56.0 points per game. They also lead the league and rank No. 11 nationally in turnovers forced at 21.9 per contest and rank No. 5 in turnover margin at 7.1.

HITTING THEIR STRIDE: After dropping three-straight games from Jan. 29 – Feb.6 , the Longhorns have righted the ship as they've won seven in a row and are playing some of their best basketball of the season down the stretch run of the regular season

Over the last five games, the Longhorns are outscoring their opponents 349-259 and holding them to just 51.8 points per contests. Texas is shooting 44 percent from the field and 39 percent from behind the arc and own a 178-142 rebounding advantage that span as well. Texas is also forcing 19.8 opponent turnovers per game and while committing just 12 on the other end.

SCOUTING THE COWGIRLS:  OSU has found it tough sledding this season as they enter Saturday's tilt losers of four-straight games and sit in ninth-place in the Big 12 Standings.

Offense has been a struggle for the Cowgirls this season as they rank last in the league at just 58.3 points per game, but have been strong defensively as the rank No.2 in the Big 12 holding opponents to 60.3 points per game.

Junior guard Lauren Fields paces the team offensively and ranks No. 6 in the conference averaging 16.2 points per game. Lexy Keys is the team's second-leading scorer at 9.9 points per contest. Taylen Collins leads OSU on the glass averaging 6.7 rebounds per game to go along with 8.8 points per game offensively.

NEXT: Following Saturday's regular season finale, the Longhorns will gear up for the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship next week at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City.

Having already secured a spot in the tournament quarterfinals, the Longhorns will kick off play on Friday, March 11.  Semifinals are slated for Saturday, March 12 with the Championship game taking place on Sunday, March 13.
