l'île de beauté. What an amazing place. It’s been on our short list for several years, finally made it happen, been here for a week and we love it.

Great people, mostly French but they have a strong sense of Corsican heritage, with a fair amount of Italian mixed in, especially in their language.

The scenery is fantastic, almost 200 beaches with a lot of variety, many with fine white sand. Some have a parking lot and beach bars, some have a hike and serenity. We prefer the latter. The interior of the island has mountains up to 8,800’ in elevation. Very diverse geography.

The food is French Mediterranean, which is to say, perfect. And the wine is mostly produced here, they don’t import or export much, and it’s very tasty and surprisingly inexpensive.

It does help to speak some French because there will be places where no English is spoken. We rarely hear English being spoken at other tables at restaurants, nor have we met any Americans in our week here. I’m surprised by that but it’s quite nice. Our favorite place has always been St. Barth, which unfortunately has been overrun with Americans post-pandemic.

You could spend a month here and not run out of things to see or do. We spent time in Isle Rousse, Calvi, Piana, Corte, and Bonifacio. Along the way we’ve discovered tons of stuff that we didn’t have time for, or rather, we’re trying to relax as much as possible (madame-wt is 17 weeks pregnant), so we will absolutely be returning to enjoy more of what Corsica has to offer.

It’s been at the top of my list for a while.  Swim in the morning and ski in the afternoon.  Add in GR20 which is the most difficult trekking trail in Europe and 120 miles long.  French and Italian cuisine and wines?   Paradise.

Heading back this week for the second time. Staying in a couple of different hotels and trying to explore some other areas. The agenda is to visit nice beaches and eat and drink the best food and wine we can find. I have high hopes.

Got busy and forgot to post upon returning. After 2 visits, this is easily one of my favorite places on Earth and I’m already looking forward to the next time.

We’ve bummed around the Mediterranean a fair bit - Corsica, Mallorca, Ibiza, Sardinia, Barcelona, Saint-Tropez, Cinque Terre, Croatia - and I really love each of them in different ways, but for me, Corsica is the complete package that offers natural beauty, varied landscapes, great food and wine, cleanliness, interesting culture, and overall friendly people.

If you like beaches, there is so much to offer and most of them have fine white sand, calm turquoise water, and very little seaweed or trash. Just clean and peaceful. June was still technically low season and the weather was nice (highs upper 70s, lows mid 60s) but without significant crowds.

I’m hoping our next trip we will get to take our now 2.5 year old daughter. Might wait a couple years so she can handle long travel better, but then we can make it a longer trip and do more stuff. We’ve driven through the mountainous interior of the island but we haven’t done much there and I’d like to explore some of the mountain hikes, natural pools, and canyoning.
