Is 1999 the best year for movie releases ever?

There was a time in 91/92 when T2, Basic Instinct, and Waynes World were all playing at the theater at the mall.  Those were some fun days at the mall in junior high.  Smoke come cigarettes, go to Spencers, get a ticket to Waynes World and spend all day sneaking between those movies; especially in time to see some Sharon beaver.

Look, all I know is that 1974 had both Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein, so it leaps pretty near the top of the list for me.

Oh, there were a couple other flicks in there as well- Godfather Part 2, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Chinatown, Death Wish, The Longest Yard, Towering Inferno, The Great Gatsby, Murder on the Orient Express, Foxy Brown, Emmanuelle, Uptown Saturday Night

Ummm... is this code?

1939 would like to have a word with all of you.  Movies released in 1939 are:

The Wizard of Oz

Gone with the Wind

Stagecoach

Mr. Smith Goes to Washington

Jamaica Inn

The Hunchback of Notre Dame

Of Mice and Men

The Hounds of the Baskervilles

Dark Victory

Gunga Din

Son of Frankenstein

Young Mr. Lincoln

The Four Feathers

Goodbye Mr. Chips

Only Angels Have Wings

Dodge City

Gunga Din

The Little Princess

Destry Rides Again

Another Thin Man

The Roaring Twenties

The Four Feathers

Union Pacific

Drums Along the Mohawk

The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes

Gulliver's Travels

Confessions of a Nazi Spy

It's a Wonderful World

The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn

They Made Me a Criminal

Each Dawn I Die

Allegheny Uprising

King of the Underworld

Stanley and Livinsgstone

I am sure that I am missing some.  Just a few on my list.

I can't put up with mid Atlantic accent. It seemed weird and off to me as a kid but these days it makes almost all of those movies unwatchable. I just can't enjoy it when the vocal acting is so horrendous.

1982 was the year for genre classics, I saw almost all of these in the theater:

- Blade Runner

- The Thing

- ET

- Poltergeist

- Wrath of Khan

- Conan the Barbarian

- Tron

- Rocky 3

- Dark Crystal

- Fast Times at Ridgemont High

- 48 Hours

- Creepshow

- Diner

- The King of Comedy

-First Blood

And then a bunch of Oscar bait like Gandhi, Sophie’s Choice, The Verdict, Officer and a Gentlemen and Tootsie

Yep, great year. I'd add:

  • Annie (the non-woke one)
  • Best Little Whorehouse in Texas
  • Beastmaster
  • The Border
  • Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid
  • Death Wish II
  • Firefox
  • Koyaanisquatsi
  • The Man From Snowy River
  • Megaforce
  • My Favorite Year
  • Night Shift
  • Timerider
  • Victor/Victoria
  • The World According to Garp

Firefox was terrible but Barry Bostwick's Megaforce more than made up for it.

In my mind (incorrectly, obviously) Blade Runner was like 3 years before Timerider….

I totally forgot a guilty pleasure of mine - 1982’s Cat People, with Nastassja Kinski at the height of her powers.
