Something that is underrated right now. Mike's call to have the runner steal second during the intentional walk. It would've been easy to just leave her at first...Reese is being walked anyway, what's

TK only threw 84 pitches. 10 strikeouts in the win

Nice win and sweep ladies.     Great to see Stewie come out of the funk!

Moving Maloney to leadoff changed this whole offense

  • By earning the win in all three conference games this weekend, Teagan Kavanbecame the first Texas pitcher since Blaire Luna in 2013 to be the winning pitcher in a three-game series conference sweep.
    • Luna picked up the win in all three Big 12 matchups against Baylor during the 2013 campaign.
  • When including her performance on Sunday afternoon, Texas leadoff batter Ashton Maloney failed to reach base just once in three games against Auburn over the weekend.
    • Maloney slashed .833/.778/1.000 against Tiger pitching throughout the series sweep.

TK has pitched every game this series. Its not sustainable.

What did she pitch, 11 innings total? 12?  Not terrible.

Interesting chart showing the progression of pitching under MW

Obviously O'Leary was a special case with her foot stress fracture.

Clearest pattern is declining usage over time, except for TK now.  I did a quick check on WHIP it's pretty similar to ERA, some improvement, some not.

One big factor is teams have little tape on you your freshman year, so they don't know quite how to attack you as well (except maybe OU).  By year 2, they have a better plan.

But I have another suspicion that something else is also going on, perhaps on the mental side.  MM and CG just seem a bit off this year. No way their mechanics just fell off.  Coach knows this or is feeding it somehow, with a continued leaning on TK.  If you would have told me a few months ago TK would have more innings than MM and CG combined this year I wouldn't have believed you.

I think Mike has to figure out how to use Cam and CG, because CG is better out of the pen

Because of our key injury in the infield, a ground ball pitcher like Mac won't get the help she needs to be successful. We've already seen it several times this year where a hard hit ground ball hits off the glove of Goode and they can't make the play.

Except the fact that Mac is getting the ball up and it’s getting pummeled into the outfield too

Vivi at SS and Goode at 2B was as ideal a scenario as we could have had. All of these ladies can play, so that's no slam on Bennett or even Goode. But in the meat grinder of the SEC and then hopefully OKC, you of course need your best lineup on the field every day.

How this has rippled into affecting our pitchers I don't quite know. If still in the B12, comparisons would be simpler. But as we dive into the SEC, it could be that MM or CG pitches we saw getting dribbled by Baylor or Tech are going to be hit hard more often no matter how we defend.

I'd still like to see Simpson out there a couple more times late in runaways, just to see if she still has anything at all. Clearly she's not going to be great, but easing the load on some other pitchers would have to help.

Only 3 non-conf games left, including tonight

SFA
TXST (April 9)
@ OKST (April 23)

Looking for a nice easy 10-0 (5) win where Cam pitches a complete game

SFA is 14-17 and they have 1 P4 win (Iowa State in extras).  They just lost 2 of 3 to UIW

whoa

Straight gas, and I think she may hit 80 mph by the end of the season. It is amazing how quick these girls hands are to get around on 70+ from that distance. The good hitters prefer the hard stuff, in lieu of spin.
