  1. Seems like it is Gumbo weather again & I'm looking @ Saturday night / TCU watching for a good opportunity. Sent from my SM-A326U1 using Tapatalk
  2. That's exactly what a scammer would say. I'm the real deal & all I need is your CC #, CVV & full billing address / your name IRL. It's these added details that prove I'm legit.
  3. She decided to get a new vehicle. Wouldn't listen to my pleadings that I find a good used one - insisted on new. & Yes, I fully recognize that this is a bad time to get a new ride due to dealers advertising "NO MARKUP ON MSRP!" vs. the typical "$ ____ below MSRP!" from just 2 years ago. & Of course used have gone up %'s as well, but... anyway. Got a Subaru Ascent. I had to drive her there because the Hyundai she has isn't working right now (refused to let me do repairs; assuming coil packs) & she wasn't willing to wait. Said "I won't spend $ 5,000 on repairs!" when I repeatedly said "You don't know if it's $ 5.00, $ 500.00 or $ 5,000.00!" Dealership scene: I was the "NO" guy when they tried to throw all of these dealer options & add-on's. This was Austin Subaru on Burnet Road. Their new(er) to me slickness is a hot looking girl who has a foam single dice. If you go for all 5 of their add-on's, the customer "rolls the die" to see what freebie they give... - Special window tint that blocks 99% of UVA / UVB - Seal coat of some kind for the paint (it's not factory applied, we have to do this) - Windshield replacement insurance, because the forward sensors are built into the center rear view mirror & SafeLite or whomever don't know how to do that & Subaru won't warranty the sensors if you have someone else replace the glass." - "Better than WeatherTec" floor mats - Extended life vehicle warranty I repeatedly told Mom "nope, no, nada, nyet, nuh-uh..." & she finally let it go. I reminded her that "this nice lady can just as easily give you any single one of these for free all by herself. Dealerships used to give these sorta things away just to get your business & now with limited inventory, they are being "on your side" by not giving you anything for free. ---- fast forward 40 minutes, we're in the F&I guy's office. This is the person that (in the past) had the responsibility to throw all the extras on you where they have the hot girl doing it now. We spend 10 minutes going over the same list & this time, he's got a tablet... swipe R / swipe L... from that column to this one, etc. It shows the price down @ the bottom & what it will add to your monthly bill. They don't use the "4 Square" sheet as much when --- "Hey, for only $ ____ per month, you can get ___ spiffy thing!". I swiped everything over to NOPE & there's nothing added. Vehicle only. It's near closing for the dealership (on a Friday night) & I stepped outside to the street so I can meet up with one of the guys from my crew to pay him for a total re-roofing project we completed the day before. I'm outside for 5 minutes. Before I leave the room, I said "NOTHING ELSE.... do NOT accept or add ANYTHING ELSE. I looked him direct in the eyes & said not a thing extra added. I'm sure you (dear reader) already know where this is going. Come back in, she has signed docs & of course she added something. "I asked him if he was buying a car, what would HE do? I told him to "pick one" & he had good reasons." It was the $ 6,000 add on for the extended warranty. & We all know she is going to wreck it before the extended warranty even becomes a possibility. < s i g h > This is the shit I'm up against.
  4. Bathe the affected creature(s) in Dawn dishwashing liquid (you, the kids, whatever). Do this again the next day. Full strength. If you live in a generic house with a secured back yard & that's the only place the dog gets turned out, get FOOD GRADE Diatomaceous Earth & coat the entire area. If you visit a dog park or said dog goes leash-less, well... don't. It is possible the dog got it there.
  5. Sorry to hear about your Grandpa & This is an actual Recreational VEHICLE vs. a camper, yeah? Far too many people use the "RV" nomenclature when it's actually not self propelled. Also, why not try https://www.surlyhorns.com/board/forum/19-best-buy-coupons/ (& Yes, I saw you had a tire kicker who wanted to scrape together some coin).
  6. They are definitely putting in the road work & have headlined their own show @ Red Rocks (a venue that is on my bucket list for somewhere to see a show). The wife & I have been following them for prob. 7 years now, maybe 8... they opened for Travis Tritt in San Marcos @ the State Theater & that was our 1st time seeing them. TT is a good act, hits all the pop country highlights, but for me SS&tS were far above. Nothing aginst "Sunshine", the lead guitar player, however I def. liked Tim in that slot. Around 5 or 6 years ago, we were going into DKR / TMMS & right there on San Jacacinto across from the athletic ctr, Shane + Bennett were playing (the 2 of them) with an open guitar case. Not slowing down for anything. Catch them live if y'all can - IMO, more "Americana" than "country". & Shane's not one of those folks that hide behind an acoustic - he's right there in the mix. If I had the funds available, I'd pay for a video to be shot for the song "Born & Raised" (off their Geronimo CD.
  7. ...
  8. Up by Saint David's. Rickshaws for the exit, sure... but I doubt any will be up N for the way into the facility.
  9. What's your opinion on SS&tS?
  10. The wife wanted to see Reba McIntyre, so... we're going this Friday (Terri Clark opening). My question is what's the lowdown on parking / transportation @ the Moody? Wife works within a mile of there; I'm thinking of parking @ her office & catching a Lyft down Red River & same for the return. Halp a feller out.
  11. Definitely a toe tapper, for sure.
  12. My Mom has also asked about them. 1. For now, I keep telling her to not go ANYWHERE without the phone in hand / pocket, etc. 50% "I've fallen" situations, 50% so she won't forget where she placed it. 2. I have seen on the comercials where it says "batteries never need charging or replacing" & wonder exactly how that is possible. I can also see the salesperson saying "OK< so you get one (ONE) "free try" to make sure it's working - go ahead & press the button now & you'll get a quick response from us via phone."
  13. The wife says our current countertop unit is going out. I don't agree, but... whatever. Any current recs? Not adverse to Amazon, Target, etc.
  14. It's not that they didn't want to "shop for a tool shed", they didn't want one at all. In no way did they want "that ugly thing in my back yard". Meanwhile, they also bitch about not being able to park in the garage & have to walk through rain to get into the house (never mind that a large % of the crap in the garage is HER stuff that never gets used).
  15. A slab will add to your property taxes more than a skid / runner system. If freestanding & build onsite, you can tuck it up under your roof eave & get snug to the wall. If you don't make it too large, you can also demo the thing if you decide to sell the house & the prospective buyer who has a wife that says "Ew, that thing is ugly" (for some damn reason, wives are usually 90% against the idea of a shed. Don't ask me why, but they are. I sold them for around 5 years when living in Florida & it was always the wives that were acting like they had been dragged via gunpoint.
  16. We aren't seeing any pics of various examples you have already swiped off the internet.
  17. A partial list of my internal grievances (i.e. shit that is weighing me down & I need to release but just... can't - fully - let - go): * Diesel truck needs a new engine - the fucker sounds like if you had an empty soup can with the open part facing up & were grinding the bottom part into a box of glass. Probably bottom end related, i.e. crank or a thrown rod. Ether way, diesels aren't cheap. I was in a pinch when the engine went out & ended up overpaying for a 2007 XL version F-150 with no cruise control, manual windows / locks & 2 doors + the little 'winglet' non jump seat back doors. Drove it to Colorado & back for Scout camp with my son (again, needed a truck PRONTO & this was a purchase completed the AM we left Drippin'). This thing is not a lot of fun to drive my 2 kids anywhere... 3 wide in the only seats available. * Had a shingle ------- > metal project that I invested a lot of hours (including physical onsite meetings) that I lost. Would have paid nicely enough to complete the diesel repairs. Lost that one - the customer was giving me buying signs all the way through, when I gave him a rough idea on the $$, he said that was good (complex projects where I have to detail a lot of stuff, I don't want to waste time on the nuts & bolts description until after I provide a rough $$). Final $$ I came down a bit, gave away some "Oh, BTW... I need ______" things @ no cost, etc. An irritation is I spent some $$ for a satellite measurement vs. a solid 4-1/2 hours climbing all around this roof to get a physical measurement & calculate all of that. A poke in the eye (not a full on gouge, mind you) is that I didn't get the job & in addition to this added cost (above the usual time & fuel thing). It's just salt on the wound. * I have done a couple of repairs on my own for a few projects (not uncommon where it is a hassle to the customer if I'm gonna have someone else do the work & then add some $$ on top for my part) - my back has been giving me fits over it & all I get from the wife is "You should take a hot bath". * I'm getting stuck in a spiral where in the evening, I get my brain clear - have a solid detail of what I need to do the next day, get a schedule worked up... & then one small thing the next day throws everything out of whack & I can't get the important shit handled because of the work that just popped up. * I have a customer that wants a certain type of gutter (they saw it on a neighbor's house0 & the machine to make that profile is only operated by one company (not anyone I have ever worked with). After extensive legwork to track this down & getting a price on it, the customer asked "So you're adding $$ on top of their price?" Well of course I said yes... & added "Well, yeah... that's how I make money" (even though my add-on for this is prob. less than $ 120). They seemed surprised that I would put in the effort & not expect even a little bit of compensation for my work performed. * * Final kick in the nuts is our 8 year old Doberman, "Major Royal" has cancer. He is coming up on 8 years old & apparently they are known for a 10 - 12 year span. The $$ for a CT & then surgery will probably run close to $ 10k. & My truck would need that amount for the repair. But we have a great dog that was the 1st one the kids ever really knew. & Even if everything WAS 100% successful (bone cancer most likely...( hell, look @ the results for human recovery... maybe a normal 2 th 4 more years anyhow. So, yeah. Things are going swell over here.
  18. I am quite surprised that you haven't discussed Mrs. Brisket's personal injury case (or had your fellow Barristers calmly inquiring about that portion of the issue).
  19. @deadshank Maybe you have an interest in his newsletter?
  20. This chart is for impact ratings (Class I to IV) & the next link is for "Underwriter Labs Class 90" (wind resistance). Coastal residents need to focus on the wind issue & impact resistance (while important) is secondary. The link will open up a .pdf, so it is suggested to review that one from a "real" computer vs. your phone. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&ved=2ahUKEwiJ3qe9zYj6AhWBFFkFHeGYBEEQFnoECAEQAw&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.berridge.com%2Fresources%2Ful-90-uplift-ratings%2F&usg=AOvVaw2A_MnsIUbCatHqjCy3TjfW
  21. You wuz cheated. They should have said "Hey, howz boutz this "channel guard" (or Rain Guard, or whatever they call it) panel?" (see up above in my pics). That's a lot better product than ugly ass barn metal.
  22. The sorta secret (not one I keep hidden, mind you) is that after 1st installing an exposed screw system, you should tension everything (or check for tension) every 5 years or so. Maybe do the 1st tension check 5 years post install & max 10 years after that. Remember, metal is MUCH more slick than shingles - you def. don't wanna get up there in the AM if there's even the slightest of overnight condensation & obv. stay off if there's been any kind of light mist. Tie off to something on the other side of the house. Getcha one of these from Homer Despot - it's often called 'OSHA compliance in a bucket". Spend a bit over a hundo; it's less than an insurance deductible.
  23. @High Plains Drifter, if you DO have that deduction then it means you have agreed to the Cosmetic Waiver as discussed prior. Assuming you don't ever have high wind or hail in your area, you shouldn't have any issues. If you DO get hail dings, be prepared for a fight.
  24. You're not really examining the gaskets, you are checking screw tension / looking to see if the screws are snug. Get a cordless drill with a torque setting - put it on 3 or 4 & some hex head sockets that are sized for your screws (more than likely you have the common "TEKS" type as sold in Home Depot). Try every screw; it is best to go horizontal & then up the next course (don't know if you're R handed or a Southpaw). If you have even ONE that spins out, there is zero way of knowing if the wood is bad & unrepairable under the panel or if it's just stripped out. You can go after one size larger & see if that works or you can seal over the hole with a quality metal specific elastomeric product & then add in a new screw 1-1/2 to 2 inches over to the L or R if that same spot. IMPORTANT NOTE: If you have what's sometimes referred to as a "Lap Guard" or "Channel Guard" panel, do NOT ever put a screw in the dead middle of the lap joint (where one panel ends & another starts over it) & don't put a screw in the furthest 'outside' portion of the "over" panel (see 2 pics, 2nd is as clean a closeup as I can provide). If you ever DO go for an exposed fastener system (again, I strongly advise against it), use a "ZAC Long - Life" screw (next pic).
  25. What's an "HNW" carrier? Don't think that means "Houston & NW"... If the cosmetic waiver is automatically included, I am waiting on someone to file suit & then 10 years later we get a resolved standard to go by. Additionally, i have heard that some carriers have started NOT providing any added or discount coverage for a Class IV shingle that is supposedly going to bounce most hail / survive high winds (under, maybe 150 mph). Their logic is "If YOU , the shingle manufacturer, say this shingle will survive the hail & it gets damaged, then YOU need to be providing the replacement, not us."
