I love Pete. I think he's hands-down the smartest candidate in either party and he would make a great POTUS. But this thread is amazing.
Okay, let's just assume that a gay man can be elected POTUS in 2028. I seriously doubt it, but it's not even close to the top of the list of concerns.
1. Joe Rogan and others will continue to work on young people for the next 3.5 years. We all thought the GOP would be in trouble when the Baby Boomers started dying off. Well, not really, because they've won Gen Z. And they've done shockingly well with Latinos of all ages. They are simply winning the messaging game, even with a deeply flawed head of the party. This is a problem that isn't going away any time soon, even if Trump drops dead tomorrow.
2. A significant percentage of Democrats will have moved out of the country by 2028.
3. A significant percentage of Democrats will have been deported or otherwise disenfranchised by 2028.
4. There is a significant chance that we don't even have an election in 2028. There are many ways this could happen; probably the most likely is that we're in a major war and the election is "suspended," (and then it never comes back).
5. If there is an election, the GOP will cheat its everloving ass off.
You guys are listening to Pete preach to the choir like, "Man, he sounds great." Yeah, he really does. But it doesn't change anything. This isn't getting fixed in 2028. I'm not trying to be a dick, but I think the sooner we all move past the denial phase, the better. Strap in for the long haul, or make an exit plan.
