  1. From Britannica.com: The name Gulf of Mexico has been applied to the body of water since at least the late 16th century. English geographer Richard Hakluyt referred to the “Gulfe of Mexico” in The Principall Navigations, Voiages and Discoveries of the English Nation (1589). That same year, Italian cartographer Baptista Boazio produced a map of Sir Francis Drake’s 1585–86 naval campaign against Spanish colonial holdings in the Americas. Boazio depicted Drake’s fleet skirting the edge of the “Baye of Mexico.” Other names, including the “Gulf of New Spain” and the “Florida Sea,” appeared on maps and in publications over subsequent centuries. So, we're just renaming something that historically has had its name for...nearly 500 years because why?
  2. Listened to the NYT podcast "The Daily" today which has a piece on this today. My takeaway from all of this is that PR firms suck. And Hank it's pretty clear you already have some bias in your opinion on who's telling the truth here.
  3. Does it spend as much time in the shop as their cars?
  4. Didn’t the same guy write both scripts?
  5. Watched Conclave tonight. It’s free on Peacock if you have it. Excellent performances and cinematography. Brutalist and Anora are next on my list to see want to see Brutalist in theater for sure. Saw A Complete Unknown in theater last week and loved it. Hope the rest of the nominees are as enjoyable as the ones I’ve seen so far (saw Dune II back when it came out). One of the better years in recent memory for nominated films for me so far.
  6. ProV1's are almost less expensive than eggs now. What a world.
  7. I was on the golf course this weekend too, so, you know, this hits close to home.
  8. Assuming they're even open.
  9. Actually that is a main reason I’ve hesitated adding. I know my birds are healthy and don’t want to add an unknown.
  10. I probably need to add a chicken or two to my coop. None are laying right now with daylight being so short.
  11. Make tonight a wonderful thing.
  12. Clown show.
  13. If the order is constitutional then they need to free Laken Riley’s killer. The blatant stupidity is mind bottling.
  14. I saw her first. Although 2025 Justine is full on MAGA. SAD!
  15. I guess it bears repeating that I was the founding member and first president of my law school's Federalist Society, was called Alex P. Keaton by my AP History teacher, and regularly argued with my Con Law professor over jurisprudential matters (he was extremely liberal and I tended to follow Hugo Black's views on the Bill of Rights--Black was considered liberal in his time but he was a originalist/textualist).
  16. In today's NYT: Free linky: https://www.nytimes.com/2025/01/22/us/politics/pamela-hemphill-trump-jan-6-pardon-rejection.html?unlocked_article_code=1.rU4.aHbd.AIDElZpCUeIi&smid=url-share
  17. You should find new friends.
  18. Replaced wife's car over the holidays.
  19. They do a lot of damage in a lot of ways and will do things for the actual problems we face as a country (but not in a good way): Removing restrictions and increasing permitting on O&G development on public lands Kneecapping wind energy by limiting future development on public lands (while wind energy is trending cheaper than coal, e.g.) Giving Leon an unfair advantage over his competitors shifting into the EV market by attempting to impound Congressionally appropriated tax credits and incentives to the legacy auto industry (as well as start-ups). Creating uncertainty generally across all sorts of industries and businesses by undoing years of regulatory programs (this goes both ways, BTW) Generally attempting to impose by executive FIAT matters exclusively within the power of the legislature. etc., etc.
