  1. Can’t believe I’m still so upset about this. Didn’t realize how much I liked the dude until now. Only other deaths I can think of that impacted me like this were Johnny Cash and Norm Macdonald.

  3. Damn. I don't remember a year where I've felt so insecure with my rankings. Guess that means I feel like there's a lot of well-matched teams though. Should be a great season as always!
  4. At the 5ish second mark when the white dude stops to help his buddy for a second, he either get's really lucky or he has an amazing sense of awareness. Perfectly ducked a punch from behind.
  5. He absolutely would. Amazing that they didn’t see it for what it was originally, and even more amazing they still think it was a compliment.
  6. Of course you don't care about light in the evening. That's when you're inside cooking dinner and doing laundry. Us manly men are outside, doing hard stuff with our muscles. You wouldn't understand because you have boobs. Also, you do realize that it would be dark in the morning for even longer, right? Unless your morning sleep requires sunlight, I think you'd be fine.
  7. Technically? Sure, I guess so. But unless we knew for a fact that a) he was going to be legally cleared, and b) we were definitely going to bring him back once that happened, then it makes no sense. For one, we wouldn't be able to hire anybody worth a shit when it's obvious that it's only a temporary gig. And second, let's just say we kept him around a long time in that status and somehow hired a coach that turns out to be amazing. Then what if all the charges got dropped? You fire Beard at that point, we're probably paying his full buyout. The "for cause" argument would be super flimsy by then.
  8. Not sure the process or speed would be much different. But the mood certainly would be. That would've meant we were gifted with a buyout-free way to show him the door. We still would've taken the time to make sure to cross all our Is and dot our Ts on the grounds of termination for cause.
  9. If he said a single word to the cops, then yeah, he probably said something that will ensure he can't completely come out clean on this.
  10. Yeah. And Ewers is a sophomore, so we’ll need to make sure we have another QB in a couple years if not sooner.

  13. Can’t imagine why they don’t have their heads fully in the game. No reason it couldn’t have been a perfectly relaxing day without any distractions
  14. Wouldn't get too hung up on that part as we don't know if it was a direct quote in the affidavit. That could be a paraphrase of "she started hitting me and I had to defend myself." Certainly possible, but I think it's unlikely that he said "I wasn't the primary aggressor, but then I became the aggressor." Also, where did you see that he didn't deny anything? All I saw were a couple comments for the AAS, but I didn't see anything about him denying or admitting anything.
  15. Can't disagree with you there. And my original comment was all about risk/reward. I don't see how it could take more than a week for the school to have a pretty good grasp on what happened, much less several months.
  16. Yeesh. Have to imagine there's going to be plenty of visual evidence then. Bite marks are pretty easy to identify, and they don't fade very fast (at least not when my kids bit each other they didn't...always easy to determine who was the culprit.) Although, with a few small changes in the wording and reading it in a sensual tone, it could be out of Fifty Shades of Gray. Maybe it's all just a big, sexy misunderstanding!
  17. You think there's a substantial difference in the court of public opinion between firing him today, potentially putting the university at risk of a major lawsuit and/or having to pay his buyout vs. waiting a day or two and doing it correctly? Like years down the line, people are still gonna be looking back at us and tsk tsking that he was fired on a Thursday instead of Monday?
  18. No one is moving the goalpost except you. Every discussion here is premised on him being fired for cause. All the talk about due process and whatnot is because we don't want to have to pay a buyout or deal with a wrongful termination claim. I guarantee you, regardless of what his contract may or may not say, if we terminate him now and he is ultimately cleared of any wrongdoing, there will be a lawsuit (or a settlement to avoid it). As I've said a few times today, there is no upside to firing him right now, only downside.
  19. Saw that, and I was a little confused by it. Actually thought about it for a bit before scrolling away. I think it's probably because of the first part of your statement. Saying he should be suspended pending an investigation is perfectly rational. Once the school has somewhat of a grasp on what actually went down, 99% chance that's going to happen unless Beard calls up CDC and says "yeah, I beat the shit out of her, and her throat was a solid bruise when the cops took pictures of her." In which case, they skip the suspension and move to the firing. But everyone here is getting tired of people jumping way too far on the conclusions mat. I think you got lumped into that group by saying you "know what happened." You don't actually know that though. You only know he got arrested for some sort of DV. Also, calling it an embarrassment to the university, while not entirely true in my opinion but I don't totally blame you for feeling that way, isn't avoidable. Actions can't be taken on those grounds alone, at least not yet. It's going to remain as such unless he is able to totally clear his name, and that's unfortunately something we just have to deal with over the next few hours/days. While employers don't have to presume innocent until proven guilty, the university still has to gather more details and provide some sort of due process. By your posting, I think you agree with that.
