  5. These models are like an order of magnitude different from each other. Good job everybody.
  6. This morning I heard a bunch of scrub jays screeching, and I could tell there was something going on besides just being annoying. There were at least 6 of them hopping around in one tree, and they weren't fighting each other. So I went outside to look, and there was also a cardinal and a wren bouncing around and swooping down at something on the ground. It was this little rat snake, with a full belly. There's a red oak leaf at the bottom of the picture for scale.

Pull up the plants, and if any of the plants are infested by spider mites, discard them and as many of the mites as possible in the garbage can rather than a closed compost pile." Some people start with completely new tomato plants for a fall crop. But if the plants are in good condition, I think it's worthwhile to keep them going through the heat. If you want to keep them going, cutting them back now is probably a good thing to do. As you say, if they survive, they survive. Or conversely,
