  1. Absolutely loved it. My favorite part was Superman’s mom being a Westworld sexbot.
  2. Faith cannot exist in a space occupied by certainty. “Certainty” is fatal to faith and dangerously corrosive to grace. If one is certain of their own reading of scripture and certain of their full compliance with scripture, where is the need for Christ’s righteousness and God’s grace? And if one does not feel themselves absolutely dependent on God’s grace, they are very unlikely to extend any grace towards others. IMO, there is no aspect of life where the Dunning-Kruger effect is more dangerous than religion. A little study and minimal understanding of small snippets of scripture can result in a strong sense of certainty. Vast swaths of the evangelical Church are stuck at this novice level with no desire to advance past it because it becomes uncomfortable and threatens existing power structures and organizations. They can’t let go of that anchor of certainty and allow themselves to have faith in the Spirit to lead them to new places and new ways of loving others.
  3. Well then I'll just have to rely on "Jesus, take the wheel!" <The above is just a joke and not in line with my personal theology>
  4. Like you, I have come out the Church of Christ tradition, which is exceedingly focused on doctrinal orthodoxy derived from reasoning and rational examination using New Testament scripture as a proof text. The focus has always been on gaining certainty of God's will and God's plan, which sadly has left very little room for faith and grace. I have not abandoned the CoC and still attend regularly in an effort to be an instrument for change. My faith journey over the past 15 years has led me towards the realization that the Bible is a multi-vocal collection of stories and writings documenting God-seeking people's experiences with God and the truths (their truths) that they took from those experiences. Realizing that the Bible is multi-vocal and not a word-for-word dictation from the mouth of God (something it never actually claims) has been exceptionally freeing for me which has challenged, yet ultimately deepened my faith. I find that I don't really sweat the details and now have very simple filters now for whether or not I accept a particular view or reading of scripture. What are the manifest fruits of this interpretation, and does it prevent, hinder, or otherwise get in the way of me or another person loving God and others? I believe in Jesus and the saving power of his sacrifice. I believe in the power of Jesus' blood and the nature of God being love so strongly that I find myself drawn to belief in universal salvation. To me, being a Christian means that I choose to live in response to that sacrifice by loving God and loving others as Jesus loves me. I believe that Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, all religions, all peoples, and the entirety of creation are all redeemed and reconciled to God through the power of Christ's blood. I believe that the Spirit leads other cultures and traditions towards loving God and love others within their culture and tradition. People, cultures, and traditions will get it wrong along the way - we always do. But there's something in all of us that nudges towards reverence for something more than ourselves and to live in peace and harmony with those around us. I came across the theological concept of amipotence a couple of years ago, and I find it very compelling. It flows from an acceptance that the defining characteristic of God's entire being is love. And from that flows the idea that perfect love is perfectly uncontrolling. Therefore God's perfect love for His entire creation constrains Him from acting in a controlling manner upon His creation. Human free will and the physical laws of the universe are allowed to proceed without interference to their own conclusions. Prayer provides one path of connection to God's perfect love, and the true power of God's love is the peace and acceptance we receive while in relationship with Him. That time of connection can calm our frazzled nerves, ease or at least provide a limitless outlet for the pain of our broken hearts, unlock our intuition about a problem we are dealing with, or release the unknown mechanisms of placebo or some other type of holistic healing.
  5. I'm going back to my "Jaws" analogy. Sometime the seal escapes onto a buoy. But they always have to get back in the water eventually.
  6. This might very well be Espada's "hold my beer" lineup.
  7. The rat can die of gonorrhea and rot in hell for is post-Astro antics, but he deserves his flowers for the contributions to the 2017 team. It's an uncomfortable fact that Fiers led the staff in innings and kept the team afloat during the regular season while Keuchel, McCullers, Musgrove, Morton, and McHugh all had significant stints on the IL.
  8. That is fucking awesome. In honor of the 50th anniversary, I would have gone with the Jaws analogy: "Mr. Manfred, what we are dealing with here is a perfect engine, a Dodger-beating machine. It's really a miracle of evolution. All this machine does is pitch and hit and make little pitchers and hitters, and that's all. Now, why don't you take a long, close look at this second baseman. [gestures to 5'5" Altuve] Those proportions are correct."
  9. I was thinking about this trade the other day when shaking my head in disbelief about the plethora of LH options currently in our bullpen. Wasn't that long ago when we were all in on Britton because Tony Sipp was the only lefty in the pen. Instead of giving up Moran and a couple of farm arms, we had to trade Teoscar for Liriano to get another lefty. I guess it was worth it since he recorded an out in Game 7.
  10. Did the mike just pick up an “ooooooh, shit!” From Trammell?
  11. Rojas lucky to not card an E there. I think the standard not to assume a double play is dumb. That was a tailor made 5-4-3. He came up a little… short on that swing.
  12. Walker for Freeman straight up. Make LA say no.
  13. I was just thinking that for such an iconic franchise, they are truly embarrassing.
  14. That was really weird to watch. I mean it worked, but felt wrong. Never seen that before.
  15. I’m enjoying seeing the Game 7 jerseys in Dodger Stadium again.
  16. 1B - Tyler Hardman 2B - Clyde Horne SS - Dick Groat, Dickie Thon 3B - Alonzo Longware, Jim Cockman LF - Johnny Dickshot CF - Rocco Baldelli RF - Romeo Simoni C - Billy Boner P - Randy Johnson, Hardee Henderson RP - Dick Lovelady, Rocky Cherry, Hank Boney
  17. Dick Lovelady sighting. Have we done a porn name all star team here yet?
  18. As soon as I saw that he’d been DFA’d, I knew Dana would bring him in. Very low risk acquisition with a lot of upside.
  19. No. That’s exactly seven fathoms.
  20. I fail to comprehend how an Astros fan in 2025 can be nervous about a series in the first week of July. We’ve been in a golden age for a decade. It don’t make a shit until September.
  21. Another series win. Keep it rolling, boys.
  22. We’re not even in the top half of the league. https://www.statmuse.com/mlb/ask/runners-left-in-scoring-position-by-team-this-year
