  1. When I have reason to expect an easy Texas win, about half the time it isn't. Is this one of those games we win "easily" but not by a huge margin? I'll go with that and say Texas 27-10. Ewers finishes with 204.
  2. True, but Dusty trots out a lot of "interesting" lineups home and away. We just tend to play better ball on the road, which continues to baffle me. That broad trend started even before Dusty showed up.
  3. The way we play at home vs. on the road, I think we need to have the team stay in a hotel near MMP.
  4. I've often wondered why teams don't lock in on the high heater from JV every start. He relies on it so heavily the first time through the order. If he's lost a couple mph, that translates to opportunity.
  5. You know what creates urgency? Losing. Dusty of course knows this and so is building desperation, one head-scratching lineup at a time.
  6. Beat Rice. Then everyone else. See what shakes out in December.
  7. With the fall of Bader, I assume he's deep in mourning.
  8. I predicted 96 wins when the season began. A few weeks ago, I was wondering if we could even get to 90. Then, right before this win streak, I said I'd take 94. Even after that spurt, 94 still feels like where we'll end up. And given the way things have gone overall, I'd be more than fine with that.
  9. He sometimes can lay down a decent bunt.
  10. Didn't the Rangers lose another game in that same way recently?
  11. Nice dinger to tie it. Finish the job.
  12. Giving up 3 runs on 3 singles — despite turning a DP in the middle of it all — is pretty major fail. If we didn't need the Mets to win, I'd find it awesome.
  13. These Mets and A's jump out to unexpected early leads and then just waste away as their opponents slowly chip away. They play just badly enough to lose. I'd rather they get blown out from the start and not get my hopes up.
  14. And they're really good at it. About to salvage another bad loss.
  15. Honestly, this whole team (ownership on down to the bench) has had me alternating my mood between happy and sad this whole season. But player and manager performances that resemble an EKG readout can do that to a fan. Our underlying talent and health, bolstered by the recent additions of JV, Diaz and now a professional hitter from the past, have me smiling at the moment. Check back an inning, week or month from now.
  16. Don't know about Maldy, but without Dubon I suspect we'd now be about 5 games out. Regardless of WAR or any other metric, he's been a great asset to this point. Just need to use him smartly from here on out (which likely means we won't).
  17. Would Bielak or Blanco take his spot?
  18. As opposed to the stiffs we've tried to play into shape but then realized their shape is that of a vacuum cleaner.
  19. It's hard for me to fathom us getting even six wins in a row the way we've played all year. Would love to see us do that, of course, but it's reasonable to hope for only if the bats and arms stay dialed in for a full week...and we know what a challenge that's been. To go on a double-digit win streak seems like pure fantasy. Which is sad, considering we have the talent. Get to 94 wins and let the chips fall where they may.
